Drag queens Trixie Mattel and Katya react to the new documentary film Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal on Netflix, in this new episode of "I Like to Watch".
The film is an examination into the shocking 2019 college admissions scandal and how Rick Singer, the man at the center of the scheme, convinced his wealthy clients, to further cheat a system already designed to benefit the privileged. The documentary contains reenactments using real FBI audio transcripts.

It’s crazy because they don’t mean much. An average or below average student could cram for the SATs or ACT, get accepted into college yet don’t take schoolwork seriously.

  • I got into one of the top universities in the world as part of a quota of kids from low income backgrounds and I felt completely undeserving of being there for the first few years. Even though my subject was my dream to learn about, I felt that my peers were more deserving than I was. That I was not equipped to handle this world financially or intellectually. Now I know that many privileges kids scheme their way into university, I have to look back and think I was probably more deserving than I gave myself credit for.

    • I feel you! i got a full ride almost to my college and I worked so damn hard for them. I then had a guy in college ask how I got them and I joked "cause I'm black and a woman" and he fucking believed me for 3 days. He was very sarcastic 90% of the time and he paid for all his college bills outta pocket even though we were both AP students. Acted like I didn't deserve it but dude that's not my mf problem I literally had to get scholarships in order to be able to go to that school and not be in devastating debt.

It took me a little while to stop focusing on how I got there and focus on being there. You just prove them wrong by succeding at university.

    • I think my school was a rarity in that the BFA program I attended really did prepare you for real work situations instead of preparing me for grad school.   • So my 1st choice school (a state school in the middle of nowhere) put my admission on hold until I get a better ACT score and raise my GPA a little. I took the ACT 3 times, worked my but off to get my GPA up, and did so many extra curricular activities and got in. What’s sad is I later talked to some slacker in one of my college classes who told me that he had lower scores and GPA than me and got accepted easily, which made me wonder why my school made me put all that work in if it didn’t even matter. Anyway I now have a bachelors degree and over $20,000 in debt.
