    • Read the game bios. Bayo from 3 is the same we played in 1 (which is ceresita grown up) and 2. The one that shows up in 3's ending wearing the cloths from the first game, is a bayo from another universe that lived through the same events of the first game but then, different things after. The one wearing cloths from the second game is a bayo from another universe that lived through the events of games 1 and 2 and then, different things. The bios also explain about the faery powers and Luca, and which bayo is Viola's mother. At least do more research before making a video critisizing the game story. And oh, your throw way comment about sexualization in Xenoblade 2 tells me you did not play that game for real as well ...

  • You know something stupid? Bayonetta 1 and 2 are a loop, one can't happen without the other, the world lost its balance in two because bayo killed balder in 1, and balder is evil in 1 because his young version became bad after the events of 2, even bayo had flashbacks to the events of bayo 1 after luka infodumped the lore of aesir to her, but nah, platinum games says bayo 1 and 2 took place in different universes.

    • Look at it this way, alternate universes are often also alternate timelines. If everything between Bayo 1 & 2 is a loop, maybe that could be considered its own pocket dimension of sorts So, at the end of Bayo 3, you have time loop Bayo(1), post time loop Bayo(2), and alt timeline Bayo(3) fighting side by side.

Personally, I couldn't care less about Bayo's romantic involments, her character has never been about that for me. It's undeniable that the script is sloppy and unpolished for this one in many ways. Like if 1's plot caused a branch in the timeline and 3's Cereza is the little girl from Vigrid instead of a completely new character. Like a lot of emotional scenes would've hit harder if it was the same people you've been as for a decade. Rosa's end felt cheapened because neither she nor Bayo are the same ones developed by 2's plot, and Bayo's own end doesn't hit because she was now a one-off character in this universe. • Honestly, I think people are getting the wrong idea when fans complain about Bayonetta getting with Luka over Jeanne. The point is not that making Bayonetta queer would automatically "fix" the narrative, but that if they were going to give her a love interest, she was the infinitely better choice. Bayonetta and Jeanne have history. They obviously care about each other a great deal and they have great chemistry together. There's a certain equality to their relationship. Luka just doesn't have that. The most that's happened between the two is some playful flirting that frames their relationship as more domineering than romantic. He's the hapless schmuck who Bayonetta has fun teasing but wouldn't consider anything explicitly romantic with him. I just don't buy that Bayonetta would journey into hell to save his soul, I'm sorry. And if they were going to go down this road, then they had to put in the effort to build up the relationship in this game, which they didn't. So if they were going to put Bayonetta in any romantic relationship and they just didn't have the time to develop one from scratch amidst all the combat and bombastic set pieces, then Jeanne would've made infinitely more sense and gone down way better with the audience.

Fans were saying from the trailers that the Bayo in 3 definitely didn’t seem like the same version from 1 and 2, and it’s pretty cool to me that our 3 Bayonettas are different versions. But the ending… I mean I’m fine if Bayo and Jeanne aren’t together in every universe (Bayo reads bisexual to me at least), so whatever if she ends up with Luka in one timeline. But the death of Jeanne was so unceremonious, who wouldn’t be annoyed??? That’s her bff in this timeline, I’m sad… and the relationship between Luka and Bayo in this game didn’t feel super built up tbh. • SPOILER WARNING!!!!! - - Personally, I do not hate Viola. With that said though, I do not like her either. I just don't understand how Bayonetta's child would turn out like that, like at all. I can only blame it on Luka. Also, the way she speaks to Bayonetta despite being her daughter is just odd. While I know our Bayonetta isn't her actual mom, they are still the same person and look almost identical to each other. And with my issues with Viola aside... The ending. Yikes. On the positives, I get what Platinum Games was going for. Throughout the whole game and even in the teaser we literally see Bayonetta die over and over, very obviously foreshadowing her death. In fact, the first game starts with her in a cemetery and ends with her faking her death. The lyrics of Whispers of Destiny also allude to her death as well as her relationship with Luka. Furthermore, having Luka and Bayonetta die is a clear way of setting up a parallel between Viola and Bayonetta, as she too was orphaned during her early adult life (Balder wasn't dead but she also didn't know who her father was). But even with the foreshadowing and clear intentions... It still doesn't sit right with me that they actually went through with killing her off. And it's not like we'll follow another Bayonetta in another universe, as the final scene with Viola has her taking up her mother's name and the end screen very clearly said "To be continued in a new generation".

    @medbii@medbii Жыл бұрын
    • urgh, yea i think i would've just liked the idea of having another bayonetta to follow for other titles and viola can be a 3rd multiverse-hopping, reoccurring, playable character. as she is now, i don't know if she can really take up her mother's mantle and she is far divorced from the traits that we came to know and love about bayonetta. or like. at the very least i'd rather have viola be a protagonist/part of a main cast for another series from the same universe and start from scratch so that there isn't so much pressure for comparison towards her and her mom and she can have room to grow as her own character.

  • Viola's gameplay is somewhat improved by using a mechanic that the game doesn't tell you exists: guard cancelling. You're told that you can't block attacks after you throw your sword, either by summoning cheshire or as a heavy attack. This is true, but pushing the guard button after a heavy attack does something anyways: it cancels your recovery animation and allows you to use barehand attacks after any sword throw move. The timing for guard cancel is different for every attack but using it provides Viola much more variety. Just don't attempt to use any moves that require you to push the "command input" button, because that's the same as the Speed Star button, which is also the same as the Guard button, so trying to use it for a command input will cause the game to see that you double-tapped the button and make you use Speed Star.

    @acheronrecusant@acheronrecusant Жыл бұрын
    • Not gonna lie, I deactivated Speed Star on Viola's moveset. It was pretty frustrating to start cancelling twice and just, dash into the ennemy and get hit. I have less mobility but it's way more cool and interesting for combos. I don't get why they put the guard along the dash button

I dunno after the stuff with Taylor, finding out that Luka "gets the girl" even though the best part of the story is that he can get most of the girls except Bayo ( I take the creepy "groomer" implications a lil more seriously because they literally didn't have to go out of their way to make him the love interest), and my immediate impression of Viola being "Ah... this is just punkgirl!Nero" I can't say I'm all that interested in getting a possible Bayonetta 4. That's not even getting into how I feel that mechanically the game is neat and beautiful but the combat feels a little floaty in the worst ways. I think you're right about the fact that the player is doing a little too much watching the cool stuff and not enough doing the cool stuff when it comes to some of the cut scenes. If the next game is gonna be about Viola then it's going to be a tough sell to me. I'm having a hard time playing through 3 as it is. I don't want cool swordswoman that can parry shit; so many games in the last decade have you play as someone with a damn sword and parry tech. If I wanted that I'd literally play DMC instead. I want campy, sexy gogo gun girl. Oh, uh, Choo choo 🚂

Viola is never going to be that. Also, 90% of Viola's dialogue is her repeating her own name, but, at the end of the game she... gets called a different name and embraces it. Usually it's the opposite I do my best to get pure plats even when I'm not good but I don't want to do it this game. Some of these battles are just not worth it. Thankfully I actually can do that. Also story wise, especially Viola wise like. lmao. "We'll have some girl talk along the way" LMAO MAYBE THEY SHOUDVE ACTUALLY HAD SOME GIRL TALK ALONG THE WAY! Maybe Viola could've been a companion character! And they have more banter and build a genuine relationship! Not many people like Loki but when he opened up about how freaked out he was bc he couldn't remember anything and Bayo genuinely related to that and assured him that things will turn out OK was like! Actually good! and I buy them being buds! I wanted that with Viola but no they just split up and like...OK....whatever I guess....no girl talk along the way....

  • I agree that Bayo was pretty out of character in the 3rd game. She just seemed so tired to me. In the other games, she would run around for days and nights, battling anyone or thing that stepped to her and still have plenty of energy to pose, dance, quip, tease, and show emotion. The outfits in the previous games were killer stylish. Who designed these ugly ass costumes? They should feel shame. Jeanne's death was so disrespectful. Taken by surprise? Really? She couldn't even put up a fight? I ship the hell out of Bayo and Jeanne. But I wouldn't have minded that Bayo is straight or even that she ended up with the biggest goofy in the franchise, if they had given Luca and Bayo more romantic scenes. They had nothing for three games but some generic flirting she directs to everyone and the death scene. I also wouldn't have been so annoyed if freaking Hideki hadn't put Bayo and Jeanne in that poll, or said Bayo's going to Hell for Jeanne was the ultimate romantic gesture. As conservative as Japan is, he knew damn well he wasn't going to make anyone gay. She's straight, fine, but to hint and tease just to pull a bait and switch is very disrespectful.

I've played B1 and B2 and loved them both, although that was a good while ago and I didn't even know B3 had a release date yet when I saw it on the shelf so I'm not a mega-hype fan or anything like that. The big thing I noticed right away with B3 is that it feels incredibly heavy. Granted Bayonetta as a series is hardly slow and subtle, but there's almost too much going on here. I'm not great at making combos in any given game but I can learn my way into getting decent enough over the course of one, but here it feels like it's pointless to try to learn any of the moves because you get another weapon before you even learn the other one. Bayonetta 1 and 2 were pretty simple action games with a lot of flair and style, but so far Bayonetta 3 seems way more interested in being super complex and innovative where it didn't need to be.

  • I was also disappointed in the change of torture attacks, the whole point was the button mashing to increase your score and damage. Demon Masquerade (that's the shapeshifting thing she does during combos or input attacks) and Demon Slave (controlling demons directly, in the story this lets the demons fight the unholy enemies) were pretty great. My favorites include Phantasmaranae (the spider) who can explode, and Kraken (who has a glitch that deals stupid damage). Some demons weren't good, like Wartrain Gouon who's frankly a pain to control and so slow it ruins the fast pace that Bayonetta's meant for. Viola's gameplay is fine once you get used to it, with some tech involving the fact any of her attacks can be canceled with R/Block. However, it could've been adjusted a little, plus she's got a huge weakness against grabs (remember, you can't block a grab) where you can only dodge and not do Witch Time. Her story arc was also stupid, not getting a chance to prove herself the successor to Cereza she's set up to be and rather overall inferior in her... 3 or 4 chapters? Her whole character is she's a silly underdog [claustrophobic, lost in the desert, can't headbutt Strider and only stood some chance with her apparent Faerie Form that was only used twice and, not against the main villain or anything], she's not meant to be a viable protagonist. Last thing, I might go over my thoughts on the alternate gameplays... Jeanne's spy missions, it could've been a whole different plot in its own bigger spinoff game with more focused stages. Here, there's not actually enough focus on stealth to call it a stealth section (There are too many enemies in the first two to really sneak past plus turrets on the ceilings, there's no stealth at all in the 2nd half, and you can kind of fight the enemies semi-regularly anyhow either with guns or punches inferior to regular stages, but best bet is getting in a vent and "stealth killing" or using Moth Within). Gommorah's battles are fine even if slow. Queen Butterfly can kind of be a pain when you're tossing slow bubbles, but you're probably not taking damage here (the staff swing has like a full second to press the prompt). Phantom/Malphas was decent, not as different from normal play. Baal Zebul, I hate. After the bat fires the laser, it stops feeling like a rhythm game (where there are proper sound cues, namely Zebul's singing), and more straight knowing where the enemies are coming from (making the achievement of "don't take damage"/Pure Platinum a huge pain). Near the end you control Madama Butterfly in the Alphaverse, why are you controlling Madama? Bayo 1 had her fight a very similar boss on her own. Madama's way slower and doesn't feel as powerful to compensate. [Also, the game did not need 3 credits. Jeanne apparently needed an entire credits sequence (should've been its own game in that case with a bigger budget), plus a credits after Bayo dies, then after Viola's final fight you do a mini-boss rush in credits like the other two games.]

The way they changed weapon sets to be singular but way more indepth weapon to weapon. Really my only big complaint is that A: they really need to de-cuff violas parry with her lock on, combos feel fucking weird and I get the idea is she's a stand ur ground swordie. But it doesn't feel right since it has more startup lag than bayos witch time. B:3 weapons pls. C'mon bayo 3, 3 demons at a time, 3 currencies. And I like how all these changes work. But why not do the same for weapons!? Like c'mon dmc5 let's u use every weapon on Dante and another weapon to swap through would mean I can keep that one weapon on hand that u need for level traversal. Without constantly going into menus. Tldr, this game is good. Just, so unnatural to a bayo fan. This is a completely different point for the series. It's no longer bingo morihashi and Hideki Kamiyas wild ride. It's their whole companies beloved brand name title. And this game feels like it. It feels experimental. And I am willing to forgive it for that. But damn that plot. Still really fun to watch crazy shit happen tho.

Hearing how Viola works doesn't fill me with hope since I hate parrying as a central game mechanic (it's made being a huge Metroid fan but not liking Dread much feel pretty lonely, let me tell you). A shame, because I do like her design a lot. Hearing how Jeane and Luka are handled is also a pretty big letdown to me. It's funny, I played DMC5 semi-recently and your description of this game does remind me of it a good amount, since Dante gets an absurd amount of fun tools to choo choo your way through the game. That said, the difference here is that Nero did still have some sauce and I know some people liked playing as him a lot, plus the game doesn't even give you Dante for a few levels, so Nero kind of served as a way to ease you in, which makes sense. The third character, V, was also kinda neat in that it asked you to kinda multitask and use summons. It was definitely simple in practice, but it was an alright change of pace sometimes. So yeah, I dunno, I'll play Bayo 3 some day and then pretend to be surprised if it disappoints me, but Bayo 2 will forever rock hard in my heart.
