8 Ways To Dye Easter Eggs 🐣 How To Dye Easter Eggs

Easter is almost here, and one of my favorite Easter activities is dyeing Easter eggs. I tried a bunch of Easter egg dyeing techniques and in this video I'm sharing the ones that worked best!
For the dye, I used a Paas kit (like this one: amzn.to/3bUAMfH) that you can get at the grocery store (I got mine at Walmart). Each color of dye is a tablet that you dissolve in water and vinegar. Feel free to use food coloring or other types of dye, though! Before you get started, be sure to cover your workspace with newspaper or something similar - the dye will stain!

  • I have tried some of these techniques before (I've been using the crayon method since I started dying eggs in the 80s), but yours look so much prettier! I'll just keep at it... plus I plan to try the ombre and foil ones today! I only recently started dabbing dry my eggs, which felt like a sacrilege after years and years of using a wire drying rack, but the dabbing method keeps the dye from pooling on the bottom. Thanks for these great suggestions!

    • Start out by adding vinegar to the water you first boil the eggs in. Skim off the waxy scum that floats up, and rinse carefully to keep it off. Also add vinegar to the dye pellets, regardless of what they tell you to do, and use boiling water. By the time you sit down to color them, the dye solution is down to very hot coffee temps, and the vinegar will aid in re-etching the shell to make the color sink in deeper. Don't forget to give them a good soaking.

This was the first post to pull up and with 10K likes, I figured why not take a look and I am impressed. Hopefully, we will have fun together today. Thanks again.

      @essyjae@essyjae6 жыл бұрын
    • Great, thanks! So, no vinegar needed? I always wondered why vinegar is added to food coloring dyes when dyeing eggs -- do you happen to know? Also, I hollow my eggs (and then fill them with chocolate later) -- do you hard-boil yours? It looks like the ones you are using would withstand a lot more pressure, e.g. rubber band, and I'd be too afraid to press to hard w/ the crayon lol Any ideas for dying hollow egg shells please? Thx :)

      @stephaniejade7056@stephaniejade70566 жыл бұрын
    • Now that you mention it, I think I did add vinegar. I just looked at the instructions again and it says you can do it with or without, but vinegar makes the color more intense. I think maybe the acid in the vinegar enables the dye to absorb into the shell better, but I don’t know that for sure :) Yes, I did hard boil mine. I think you’re right - the rubber band and crayon would probably be too much for the hollow egg shells. I haven’t dyed hollow eggs before, but I’ll keep my eyes out for ideas! I hadn’t heard of the chocolate technique, that sounds very cool! Does it create a solid chocolate egg?

    @eddiewin3194@eddiewin31946 жыл бұрын
    • Yes, I would definitely hard boil the eggs - that's how the eggs were done in this video. They won't last a super long time, but they will still be edible after decorating as long as you use food grade dye :)
