Inspired by one of my favourite Creators, Kofuzi, I wanted to run a marathon with my camera in hand to share the experience and struggle of running this distance. I can confirm that it was a right old struggle! Running a sub-3 hour marathon was a goal I set myself for 2023, and I'm stoked to have achieved it. Will I be trying it again soon? Maybe not!
The Asics Gold Coast Marathon is definitely a course that runners race with their personal best front of mind, given that it's such a flat course and the fact that Winter on the Gold Coast has excellent running conditions! I ran the race in the Asics Nimbus 25 which were awesome. What wasn't awesome was my choice of socks - rookie error!
I ambitiously ran most of the race at a 4.10 per km pace which would have brought me in well under the 3 hours; that meant I was in front of the 3-hour pacing group for the entire race which was not the plan I had in mind! This made for a grim final 5km into a headwind. Having just about weathered that storm, I was very fortunate not to blow up and miss the mark.
2.59.30 was the final result and as you can see from the finish line chaos - it was too close for comfort!

Great video mate! I'm going for a sub-3:00 this year, can't wait. What chaos actually happened at 36km?? 😬
Thanks heaps for watching David! The chaos was happening mostly in my head and my quads although the finish line was absolutely hectic also 🤣
Well done pal. Impressive
Cheers Matthew!!
Just too interesting and gripping I should be asleep 20 mins ago. Well done

Is there any better running shoe than 1080v12 if i get it in 50% off in sale here in my country india??
Fantastic effort! That was super fun to watch. Maybe you can make a video on some beginner tips and tricks for people who are new to running ;)
Thanks my friend! It's a great suggestion... maybe our next meet up will be on foot rather than on wheels - if so we should get some cameras involved!
Loved this. You ran past my old house 👏
Thanks so much for watching!! I appreciate it 🙏
@@felixoates I’m going to watch more to get your watch hours up for when you hit 1k subs
Asics gel nimbus 25💪
Great for long slow runs. Very bad choice for sub 3.
You ran in Nimbus 25s. Bad choice in my opinion for that distance at that speed. I ran my first marathon in these this year and knew they were a bad choice afterwords. Felt like I'd wasted a lot of energy due to them being very cushioned. That was a 4 hour effort; this effect, surely was magnified for you at that pace.
Hey mate, I was given these shoes by the agency that I worked with to shoot these shoes in the global campaign for the Nimbus so they mean a lot to me! I agree that carbon plated shoes are faster. What would you recommend for runners that don't have the budget for a carbon plated shoe? Cheers
@@felixoatesI’d recommend the endorphin speed 3 for non carbon shoe
I ran my 10k pb in my 25s. A month later I tried in my Adios Pro 3s and couldn't match my time. Carbon isn't everything
@@chakalaka3960 thanks for the insight Chakalaka 🤙
Great race! You'd knock 2-3min off your time if you ran in carbon plated shoes!
Cheers mate! Probably yes! Hopefully I'll be running in some metaspeeds next time 👌
