This song and video are both so achingly beautiful. The innocence of youth. Verve before the chaos of Northern Soul, before the breakup, before the streamlining of Urban Hymns. Spiritual soundscapes.
totally agree. do you prefer this version or the live version?
+Sean Gallagher now that really is a " Hobson's Choice " question. Both versions are fucking brilliant. In the house on my jack , this version, but at a gig then the live version .
This song has a vibe that is indescribable!!!!
Their best songs come from this time, just beautiful moods and landscapes.
Before Northern Soul? Northern Soul was what these guys mothers listened to.
I cannot believe I never found this band until NOW in 2019, this song sounds like its not even from the 90's its timeless, I don't think I have ever heard such a beautiful sounding song the vocals, the instruments its unreal so relaxing
I was 15 when the Verve came out. You missed a great time to be alive. Having Oasis and The Verve was like a 1 - 2 punch. Those days the radio played nothing but hits. Turns out all the music back then was just awesome. Hootie & The Blowfish, Dave Mattews Band, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, The Cranberries Staind, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, The Offspring, I could just keep naming awesome groups. It was such a pleasure to turn on the radio. The 90's was an amazing era. Not like the trash of today.
Check out the Camden Town Hall version. It's unworldly
Welcome!🎉
This is The Verve we know.
elevator operator And miss.
aye total agree that's fact for sure epic band. love from newcastle.
you know.@@chuck3605
And love ❤️
Is it? Haven't had a chance to listen to all the albums, yet.
The innocence of youth, after the storm nothing would be the same...
Sometimes, I come back here and watch again this video and listen to this ethereal music. Because it seems to take me there, in Sawmills studios, where and where ASIH was recorded. An album which is a masterpiece of music and which has marked my life forever.
Greatest band EVAAAH
Lyrics------- Seems to me that I won't get anywhere living here Might as well use my fear (Well I'll/Why) try to get it on my own Gonna drive to the bridge, gonna let it take me all alone Headlights burn my eyes, it ain't a surprise Headlights roll, they burn the lids of my eyes, Foolish talk, it always gets me inside I'll get the car, I'll drive for miles I'm gonna meet those smiles I heard that there's a storm coming down Gonna drive to the bridge, gonna let it meet me on my own Headlights light a burn in my eyes, foolish talk gets me inside Headlights light a burn in my eyes, foolish talk, leads to my demise We're not the wave, we're not the wave, we're not the wave The one who take me where I wanna be, where I wanna be We're not the wave, the rolling wave, the one with me in its eye
cant stop listening ... storm in heaven era pls come back again
Probably the most beautifully written song in the world!!!
This song and The Autumns "Pale Trembles A Gale" are probably my favorite songs of all time.
best band in the world from 92-96 beautiful sounds!!
macandme foley I disagree, in my opinion they still are the best band in the world.
OMG!!! I'VE NEVER HEARD A MORE BEAUTIFUL SONG. RESPECT TO THE VERVE.
i don't know what is this feeling, but i wanna cry :'
The Verve, I fucking love you 'till the day I die.
If life could be defined as a musical symphony, then this is mine!!
Phenomenal. This song + Beautiful Mind and A Man called Sun are such chilled out tunes.
I would add The Longest Day, Already There, Virtual World and Judas
Sky Gazer I would add Jalfrezi, Tina Turner, Stamped, And there other unreleased songs i have not named ;)
Feel.... She’s a Superstar, Make It ‘Til Monday.... pure bliss
Sweet and Sour 👍 perfection
I wouldn't compare this with Beautiful Mind, but South Pacific and Man Called Sun belong to the best The Verve songs in my opinion.
Should have been on the album - I was ecstatic when this appeared from nowhere on the SIH rerelease - this is the beautiful band they were in the beginning x
It is beautiful and dreamy one time of the Verve. Young is bliss!
This is the very best Verve thing ever.
Almost brought me to tears. Amazing!!
Listening to this in the middle of 2021 pandemic, in the UK. Sounds speak loudly to my soul in these times .
Reminds me of the feelings I used to have.
Ride and Verve. Two mesmerising bands of that era
The best band ever!!
Best band ever!!!!!!!!
You're damn right!
This is my funeral song. Beautiful.
So wish they'd get back together....one of the best band of the 90's.
i miss this band a lot😭
So good to see them living.
Happy Birthday to drummer Peter Salisbury. Achingly beautiful song.
Boy, I am so lucky to have found this video!! Love Richard's voice and his rock n roll antics!
I was fortunate to see the Storm In Heaven tour come through SF @ Slim's… it was magnificent.
so jealous
Ah so jelly, mate.
I’ve got that bootleg on a hard drive
@@amancalledsun Nice!
Tell us more
in the lyrics of richard ashcroft, there are references to the ocean. christ, the whole album sounds the ocean itself. in second tought, them and slowdive should have exchanged names jajaja
where can i find the lyrics of this version?
The Verve💚 and Slowdive 🖤
So hypnotic and beautiful!
I have been relistening to the Verve and these guys were the best ☺️
This music ages well.
Simply awesome!
Wonderful atmosphere
How time passes!
_SIR NICK MCcabe ..A LIVE VERSION OF THIS WAS ON A COMPILATION CALLED VOLUME 7 BACK IN ABOUT 1993 BUT DONT KNOW IF IT WAS EVER OFFICIALLY RELEASED BY THE BAND EARLY VERVE IS THE BEST AND YES .. NICK MCcabe IS MAGICAL !_
The version of South Pacific you are talking about is the performance from Camden Town Hall which was released by the band on the official live bootleg vinyl Voyager 1 in 1992. And it was also released on that live compilation which you mentioned and is a stunning version of the track which can be found here kzhead.info/sun/ddiRg7CZqJSaq58/bejne.html That entire Camden gig was released on VHS I believe and it was also remastered and included on a DVD in 2016 on the A Storm In Heaven deluxe boxset. It’s also up here on KZhead and is very well worth watching
@@ZanzibarBreeze thanks for sharing
Great song, Perfect performance!
Was just going to comment that i think i stayed at at the place in the video if it was Cornwall then saw the full name of the video lol. It's a gorgeous place to get away from everything and this song is sublime, don't remember hearing it before but may have. Cheers for the video and memories
this is new to me. i am super excited to watch and hear the 'new' stuff that accompanied the Storm in Heaven box set. ASIH is in my top three albums of all time and is likely to stay there. early Verve was special, and they are greatly missed.
Hella' nice gear in that studio.
The director of this footage obviously had a big crush on Simon!
That voicee!!!
Seems to me that I won’t get anywhere living here Might as well use my fear Well I'll/(or Why??) try to get it on my own Gonna drive to the bridge, gonna let it take me all alone Headlights burn my eyes, it ain’t a surprise Headlights roll, they burn the lids of my eyes, Foolish talk, it always gets me inside I'll get the car, I'll drive for miles I’m gonna meet those smiles I heard there's a storm coming down Gonna drive to the bridge, gonna let it meet me on my own Headlights light a burn in my eyes, foolish talk gets me inside Headlights light a burn in my eyes, foolish talk, leads to my demise We got the wave, we have the wave, we have the wave The one that's gonna take me where I wanna be, where I wanna be We got the wave, the rolling wave, the one with me in its eye
Mervin Factor Thanks for the lyrics 😇
Thank you!
Thank you ✌

this is good ej!!
No one else comes close.
Good, sentimental song
I wish I could see them performing together someday..
Nostalgia
south pacific in chile 2016 yeah¡
Unas mis canciones favoritas de Verve
im back in time!
Yeah but it also feels like now.
LOVE♥️♥️♥️
For me nobody beats the Roses and the Mondays aren't far behind. But the early Verve songs sum up my early 90's. Really trying not to sound pretentious here.
Danny Hay I wanna be adored ftw.
+Larethio it's " Where Angels Play "
They were young
Very different to the version in Voyager 1, this sound much peaceful.
Its Different from The Voyager 1 version. It sounds good!
You are strong kids
I'm thailand.goodsong
Fucking awesome... Bliss it is!! ^.^
The rolling wave...
😭🎵
Critics were drawing comparisons with Coldplay and Floyd, I really think the comparison makes more sense here.
Their first album was never bettered
Hypercatjohn: i don;t know man,,, i am partly of the same opinion but, then ,,, ANS is bloody good , and probably, though less immediate even better than ASIH. A more angular progression, perhaps.
Truth
My God this is amazing. Totally different to the live version so pretty, I LOVE this phase of the verses music everything thAt followed storm in heaven was a disappointment.......
no it wasn't Northern Soul is one of the best records ever
I disagree... When I listen to songs like: Drive you home, Stormy Clouds, So It goes, Catching The butterfly.. It reminds me "ASIH" pretty well. Their last album "Forth" wasn't memorable, but have good songs though. Anyway I LOVE VERVE SOOO MUCH
Sounds like Ween when they're on a break and need five minutes to sip a beer.
....
All wrongs in right place . The Verve best band
🇧🇷🌞
you can sing! my current #1 ALL-TIME FAVORITE ps im sorry i was "so bad" to my mates, i had a "really bad" time! i wasn't doin good my girls thought i was doin so "good" but i was in hell! thank you, god bless you! rip vip
I like how for some reason you put Vevo on the thumbnail but it's not on the video itself 😂
Ack so good. Seems like everyone like to rag on Richard in the KZhead comments, but he was a great poet. A musical giant along with the others... And yes, I only bought his first solo record. The sum of the Verve was always greater than its parts (see black subs as well)
worldwidehey agree wish they would get back together.
entirely his fault if the forth reunion came apart + vetoed tina turner, jalfrezi, etc his solo albums almost make me feel embarassed to be a verve fan
I always felt that Richards work was the best when he was with the Verve. The other guys solo projects (black sub, the shining, etc) were good but like Richard's work, they just wouldn't compare to Verve. Richards first solo record was literally songs that were left out of the Urban Hymns sessions which then of itself lacked the verve magic (pre mccabe returning)
Anyone with the lyrics? I can’t find the ones of this version
I miss the colossal cascading guitars on the Voyager One version. Otherwise pretty good.
Dane Di Pierro Both versions are really awesome👍👍👍
Can someone upload the lyrics to this version? It's fucking brilliant but I just can't understand what's he singing...
The Verve we knew 😑
Making chip butty footage, ftw
@01:09
Not long enough
Still couldnt find the lyrics of this version..
mervs41 If i give you Then...??😉
ııllı ııllı then you're awesome!
Why is this not on Spotify?
It is
Sr. Aschroft young
no nick?
2:25 Making a butty, the most Wigan thing ever. :D
Too bad these guys broke up in 99, when Richard went back to Strattenburough.
kinda weird seeing Elon Musk with a ponytail playing a bass
They were brilliant, especially before and immediately after it took off. But they were too young, out of their depth and so spent too much time clanning together, then they would start bickering and split up every week. Such a shame they just couldnt get along. And as for Urban Hymns - well that was the end of it for sure. Not Verve, just an Ashcroft record. It cant hold a candle to the spirit of the band that recorded A Storm In Heaven.
Seems to me that it won t get anywhere living here Might as well lose my fear South Pacific is where I m gonna end my days Gonna die under a wave What a way, what . I get my coat, I drive for miles Wanna see some smiles South Pacific is where I m gonna end my days Where I m swimming in the darkest sea I m dying in obscurity South Pacific is were I m gonna end my days Gonna die under a wave South Pacific is where I m gonna end my days But I m swimming in the darkest sea I m dying in obscurity South Pacific, South Pacific, South Pacific, South Pacific, South Pacific
...
And he thinks he's better off solo. Get the band back together, Richard.
