Josh Lawson as Kano was actually my favorite thing about this movie. He's hilarious.
The scene with Liu Kang doing the leg sweep on Kano is an homage to players spamming that move on their opponent in the games and it would piss off the other player. I laughed so hard at that moment the first time I saw it. It was a great Easter Egg for the fans.
Actually,it was easy to miss, but in the first Mortal Kombat the scene where Sub-Zero and Scorpion stepped out together Shang-Sung (bad guy sorcerer) he did say they were enemies.The lead bad guy saying/calling them the ""deadliest of enemies" but under his power he was making them be allies,or at least not letting them be enemies for the tournament.

Scorpion and sub zero were only working together in the original because Shang Tsung had them under his spell. He literally says "Scorpion and sub zero, the deadliest of enemies...but slaves under my power." just a heads up
I guess the line they missed in the original 1995 “Mortal Kombat”......Tsang Sung “Scorpion and Sub Zero, “The deadliest of enemies, but slaves under my power”....its eluded that scorpion and sub zero were controlled under a spell of Sung in the original 95 film explaining them not bickering with one another and not consciously serving him

@@demonizer6666 Either way, that was a dumb plot point. Everyone knows even then when you have Scorpion and Sub-Zero together THAT'S who you have fight. The Scorpion fight was cool but that shouldn't have been Johnny Cage.
It is planed as a trilogy. This one is placed before the tournament, the next will be placed in the tournament and the last will be post tournament.
This one definitely had the feeling of a prequel setting everything up. Hopefully the next film will be much better in regards to pacing. Fight scenes were good though and Kano was great with the needed comic relief.
Fights were good but not a fan of Cole as a character. Def felt like the token “sympathetic family man” character that the critics eat up.

Shang Tsung from 1995's Mortal Kombat made a comment during the reveal of Scorpion and Sub-Zero that they were mortal enemies, but are under his control.
Bi-Han and Kuai Liang are descendents of a race of Cryomancers from Edenia. They were kidnapped and abducted in the Lin Kuei and trained as assasins. As for Hanzo he gets control over hellfire and can spit fire,wrap himself in fire,summon demons from the netherealm,teleport after he dies and becomes the revenant Scorpion.
@Geneticfreek They are in the games as well. That doesn't contradict with what he said. The point was that the cryomancers were originally from Edenia, before their descendants including Sub Zero, were inducted into the Lin Kuei. And Scorpion was the head of the Shirai Ryu, before his clan was wiped out by the Lin Kuei and his soul went to the Netherealm where he learned to weild hellfire and return as an avenging revenant. So what you said is correct, but so is the other comment.
Never admit willingly to knowing this much about a video game lore.

I love the Jason vibe they gave Sub Zero. It feels like a slasher killer haha I love it.
This one goes into scorpion and sub zero backstory. They've always had a rivalry but then when shane sun acquired them like he said in first movie they're both under his spell so that's why they're partners in the first one lol. Maybe he took their souls and they're his servants. He said something like that when he introduced them on the boat lol.
The relationship between, Scorpion and Sub-zero extends far beyond rivalry. It goes into betrayal as Bi-han The first subzero is a member of the Lin Kuei clan which is an assassin clan that always sides with Outworld against earth. Hasashi was a former member of the clan and he left them to form his own clan, the Shirai Ryu, thus in Lin Kuei's eyes he betrayed his origin. Thus the Lin kuei sent their top assassin who is Bi-Han to wipe them out. That was in the beginning of the movie, later on, the sub-zero in armor is Bi-han immortalized by Shang Tsung's magic and that's why he lived for centuries. As for Scorpion, as seen in end, he indeed becomes a fighting specter or a ghost where he roams the earth, avenging his clan and killing his enemies. His rope dart weapon is a historic weapon indeed and is used in a similar manner which he used at the beginning of the movie, in the end fight scene, he is seen spawning that rope dart from his body as an effect of his mystical powers as being a ghost.
Hiroyuki Sanada had couple of great ninja movies in the 80s. "Shogun's Ninja" and "Ninja in the Dragon's Den" is a much watch for everyone who likes the start of this movie.
Holy shit I never realized that was Sanada! I watched "Ninja in the Dragon's Den" on repeat as a kid, lol.
Sub-Zero and Scorpion in the first MK movie wasn't allies, they were Shang- Tusng's slaves. He mention that. :)

I wondered the same and just assumed that it uses a chemical compound that dissolves flesh, but not bone... kinda the opposite of hydrofluoric acid

Sub-Zero is from China, but he speaks both Chinese and Japanese just to spite Hanzo. We also have to figure out who's giving conversational Japanese lessons to Ninjas (which didn't exist in China) in 1600s China.

@@nunyabidness3429 Well at least it was EXPLAINED a LITTLE bit by Raiden. "Blood's on this blade, your shared bloodline will bring him back to fight alongside you." The whole blood of a relative bringing someone back from Hell thing isn't a new concept. A movie called Hellraiser did it back in 1987. Still doesn't explain how Scorpion got access to just that one sentence. Is that the only phrase that's been said in English in Hell for 403 years?
I have a feeling Kano will be resurrected in the next one and have that metallic red eye inserted where the gnome was placed by Sonya. Kind of like they did with Subzero, giving him a costume upgrade. With the Ourworld advanced technology, they could possibly somehow. We've gotta see him come back as the Kano that we're all used to seeing to seek revenge on Sonya. Just my take. I know for sure though that the Emperor will be in the next one though and maybe Johnny Cage.

If I learned anything from the worst Mortal Kombat game, (Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero) its that Sub Zero is not a ninja, and is actually offended by the term. (Including his entire clan.) Sub Zero is Chinese, Scorpion is Japanese. Ninjas are Japanese. Something along the lines of him saying "The Lin Kuei are not Ninjas, we are warriors. The Shirai Ryu are Ninjas."
Cary Tagawa will always be my Shang Tsung but Chin Han could be a close 2nd for me I'd be cool if in the 2nd movie whenever Shang Tsung goes Old form the old version is played by Cary Tagawa
This movie felt like someone's fanfic came to fruition. They did not need to make an OC with such a generic look and power to be in this. I really wish that they focused it on Liu Kang like in the past movies, and trying to gather Earth realm heroes who eventually come together in the end. Though, there's still a lot about this movie I did enjoy for what it was. I really wished some of the original actors returned, but I liked this new Liu Kang.

@@blockboi3816 It would not have hurt the movie at all to bring back some of the old actors in some fashion or cameo. Cary-Yuki Tagawa could have reprised his Shang Tsung role with no problems. From what I'm hearing Linden Ashbey is considering or already slated to have a role in the next movie, just not playing Johnny Cage.
Fire dragon fatality was my favourite. When Kabal saw it in action he knew he was done for. 😂
Growing up with the original MK game, I always favoured Sub-Zero, because of his ice powers, but as I played the game more, Scorpion became a favourite. As I've played more and more games in the MK franchise, I've become a huge fan of Scorpion, but haven't seen this new film (didn't even know it was a thing, until a few days ago). Kung Lao's saw-hat was in the MK3 game, I think. I own MKX, but haven't played in a looong time. I have to say, though, I like the kunai-and-rope origin of Scorpion's "stinger," in the 2021 film, a lot more than the weird, sentient serpent-spear thing in the 1995 version. I also appreciate that they've developed more creative powers for each character, not having to keep it "PG."
I was very much the same way I very much appreciate the Scorpion more than when I was a kid.
I started to watch your reaction to this movie, even though I hadn't yet viewed it myself. Got about 7 minutes in and decided that I needed to go watch the film and then return here to finish your reaction. So glad I did... I liked this movie a lot more than I expected to... Excited for the sequel and REALLY hoping my favorite character will make an appearance, since she wasn't in this one.

If Kano gets revived in the sequel, I'm going to guess he's gonna miss the laser eye, and that'll be where the cybernetic version comes from, that'd be kind of cool :)
The final fight Bi Han dawns a black outfit.. This a prelude to Noob Sibot. Bi Han dies and is resurected by Quan Chi as Noob. Bi Han's brother Quai Leang takes up the mantel as Sub Zero after Bi Han's death.
Josh Lawson as Kano did it for me. He is the perfect embodiment of the video game character to the tee. He truly channeled his inner douchebag and stole the movie.
When subzero frooze Jax gun in this movie, it is a link to the first mortal Kombat when subzero froze Sonya blades gun on the ship to the tournament
You guys should react to MK 11's fatalities, since you seemed to like those. There are videos uploaded that have all of them. Minor warning, though, watching all of them back to back can be a bit much. So, you know, avoid watching immediately before or after a meal.
I can't believe the fatalities we got. Of course the fights were AMAZING. And of course THEY WORKED IN THE TECHNO THEME. In the 3 words uttered by Kano "You feckin beauty " With regards to the lore changes people mention, THIS is the exact argument people used to say Warcraft was a bad film. I personally loved the changes, especially since the 95 film people seem to forget about is Johnny killed Goro with the final fight was against Shang Tsung. I frequently ask myself "Was I entertained?" The answer is FUCK YES

I enjoyed this movie. I have watched it 3 times and find something new everytime I watch this. I just read today that there is a 2nd one coming out they are in the process of looking for actors to play Johnny Cage. The favorite is Chris Evans but I'm not sure if he has auditioned yet though or if he is interested in it. Great reaction!! I loved the Canio fatality Sonya has always been my favorite Character. Keep these reactions coming I enjoy the shit out of them!!
To be honest, I can see this movie franchise grown similar to Fast and the Furious. It's not super mind blowing, but it's always awesome to watch, you know? I can see the cool fatalities to be the selling point. Easter eggs and the new characters from the game was introduced every sequel and that will drive fans crazy. The original members of the 'champions' come and go, maybe there are more original characters added along the way. I think it's going to be fun that way XD
Kung Lao has been my favorite Mortal Kombat character since the PlayStation days, so he’s my favorite. His fatality is obviously going to be my favorite as well. Hopefully we get to see more of him somehow. (If they do make more)
Sub-Zero said this was a 5 picture deal. Kung Lao ALWAYS dies. They'll either bring him back, or Johnny is taking his place.

Sub, Kano, and Kung were the 3 best characters in the film....and they all died.
The actor who played Sub Zero is contracted for 4 films so he's coming back for sure, likely as Noob Saibot if they follow the game storyline in any form. As far as Kano and Kung Lao are concerned, no one really stays dead in Mortal Kombat. Just ask Johnny Cage.

The difference between sub zero and Scorpion in this compared to the game is the villain is Sub Zero instead of Scorpion who is normally burning stuff to the ground while Zero is more of a peace keeper. Also to quote Shang Tsung from the first movie “Deadliest of enemies but slaves under my power.” The thing I didn’t like about this though is that there was no tournament style fighting, the villains just ran in and started fighting the good guys which is against the rules of MK. This reminded me of Conquest where they kept trying to eliminate the MCs and anyone who wanted to join them who they did end up killing and that got annoying. Next, watch the tv show Mortal Kombat Conquest, you won’t regret it even if there’s just 1 season with a cliffhanger ending but still awesome

Mr Josh Lawson was a WIN for me in this movie. He's funny & AMAZING! Also it kinda makes me sad though that u called Sub-Zero a d*** h*** coz he's an incredible Indonesian actor, martial artist n my favourite Mr Joe Taslim. But if actors makes viewers angry n being called a d*** h*** that means they really nailed the character that they played which makes me happy too. The downside of this movie was the fighting choreography. Too many cuts n that to me was a let down to the real martial artists in this movie. LOVE ur reaction as ALWAYS Sir & Mdm😇

@@YouMeTheMovies If I was the director of this movie, I would have references from MortalKombat 9, we need klassic characters like Kitana, Baraka, Johnny Cage, Sindel, Shao Kahn, Ermac, Jade, Skarlet, Kenshi, Kintaro, Smoke, Cyrax, Sektor, Quan Chi, Sheeva, Nightwolf, Shinnok and Rain, we don’t need new characters, and they should focus on personal vendetta between Scorpion and Sub-Zero, why would Warner Bros need Cole Young?

Kano was the best thing of the movie. Love Kano in the movie. Sub-Zero is my favorite character in the game so I'd go with him aswell for the movie. Favorite fatality would be the Dragon of Lui Kangs.
It was pretty entertaining and had some pretty good fight scenes. I wouldn't buy a physical copy but I'd buy it on digital.

Scorpion becomes a revanat, a vengeful spirit bound to the world because he needs to make it right. BTW when he's a revenant he can control the fires of hell. Classic fire and ice fight.

@@brifo3394 Spectres are incorporeal, while a revenant is a very specific form of undead that arises for the sole purpose of revenge. Like Scorpion, or Eric Draven.
In the games' lore, the eviler of the two would be Scorpion. Sub-Zero was hired to stop him and his band of assassins, as a rival assassin clan. When Sub-Zero kills Scorpion, he actually goes to hell, which is why when he returns and is used by Shang Tsung, he's an undead being that can pull off his face and breathe fire. Making Sub-Zero the evil one and Scorpion a good family man really takes this and flips it on its ear. The joke of this movie with the main character only added for this film, is that he actually has to gain plot armor to win at the end 😆
Kung Lao was boss - that fatality was pretty fatal - no coming back from that, not without a lot of gaffer tape that's fo sure. I never really liked Kung Lao in the old game, but the actor did a fantastic job of making his character cool and likeable. The characterisation was much better that's why this worked on top of R rating and boss fighting, I mean Anderson who directed the old one, I liked some of his movies but for some reason he never gets the lore right on video game films - resident evil was total crap and he seemed more like a hack who did not understand the franchise at all, so I understand why people where mad at the 95 version inaccuracies.
This movie was good as a movie, but still felt sooo wrong to me. Music of the the first one was much more iconic, and playing mk and mk2 in my end-school days, this movie felt as if it has nothing to do with mortal combat. Just a nice fantasy beat em up movie, but nothing to do with the game. Also thats a weird thing in the later games they included pop-culture characters, whereas in the first games kano for example was meant to be a spin on the - at that time most famous cyborg named terminator - hence the red eye, and the heart-rip-out win move.
I didn't think I was gonna like this as much as I did. I'm not a fan of the old 90's one and I have'nt played the games since I was a kid but I thought it was pretty good. If they make another one I'd watch it.
Same reaction. I liked some of what I saw of the trailer and even the opening scene, but went in with low expectations. The action scenes were done really well and they gave us some amazing gore lacking from the 90's version, too.
@@Rakerong my only real problem with it was the lead guy was pretty bland and uninteresting. I haven't seen the actor in anything else as far as i know so i don't know if he's a bad actor or if he just had a bad character. The guy who played Kano was so much more charismatic and entertaining.
@@garydarnell3117 To be honest, I had to look him up and he's actually in Mortal Kombat X Generations, and some other recent stuff but I've never seen any of it so I can't attest to his acting ability. I think it was just a mistake to make a brand new character so it was always going to be a bummer for him.

Personally, I love Mileena. I thought they did a good job representing her mouth with the blood stains. Obviously, if your jaw is going to extend and break the skin there is going to be blood - hence the darkened blood stains around her cheeks.

Princess Kitana, not Princess Katara. And Mileena is a clone of Kitana, but Half-Edenian and Half-Tarkatan. Takatans are race of mutants with ugly face along with razor sharp teeths and razor sharp blades coming out of their forearms.
So pumped for the sequel coming next year all the characters will have much bigger roles sonya especially
Movie lost money so no sequel and it was well deserved. The animated films made more sense then this crappy movie did and even the 1995 film that helped to give the game a story. WB is under new management and with the new CEO, money talks to show that it lost money big time.

Fav Character is and always will be Kung Lao got mad when he got killed off XD personal opinion...i did not like how Jax lost his arms, i mean Sub-zero freeze a kid and a mom fully... but decides to only freeze Jax arms ? i personally would have ended that scene differently but Jax pulling away from Sub-zero (or kick push hi away) as he sees that hes being frozen, his fighting choice to lose his arms before losing his life ... idk thats just me.
