🎥 Lens for "talking to the camera" (great bokeh): amzn.to/2MtgAWQ
💡 Powerful Light (helps video quality): amzn.to/2QOTFcw

Extra equipment
🔵 Tripod for camera: amzn.to/2U1O8Ri
🔵 Light Stand: amzn.to/3aawnoM
This light stand is kinda not sturdy enough because the light and soft box are so large; the whole thing can tip over easily. But it's what I use! 😆 Or you can perhaps find another light stand that is rated to hold more weight. Or just put something heavy (like sandbags) onto the bottom to lower the center of gravity.

  • What struck me was how confidently he presented himself during his performance, looking powerfully into the camera. I was not expecting that emotional reaction after having seen him perform so strongly. This was absolutely beautiful. I noticed a few things along the way, even without going back a second time to rewatch it. But I would love to see him perform live.

    • Josh, I heartily agree. The wonderful aspect of Japanese culture is humility. It is so refreshing to see. The audience felt the genuine release of emotion or a man who most likely practiced until (almost) flawless. (I say "almost" because with certain camera angles, one sees a card being held behind the other (and the glass in his back pocket, concealed underneath the jacket tail). What a beautiful performance.

    • I wonder if these types of acts are more common in Asia (does the culture promote it?) or is it just that these types of acts are the ones that translate well for a predominately English speaking audience (both in person and on TV). For example, most Penn and Teller routines have significant dialogue (or monologue) that would lose a lot if you couldn't understand what they were saying or they were less strong with the language. There was one performer from Spain on Fool Us who commented on this issue, that he switched to miming his acts because the dialogue created issues for an international audience.

I'm also glad he fooled them because that is the most genuine, purely happy reactions they've had and you can tell it really meant the world to him. • This was one of the craziest episode full of amazing magicians. Penn and Teller knew what he was doing. They were humble enough to be "humiliated" to not know how he did it (they know) and just wanted him to win because it was pure skill. If you put it in slow motion, you can see alot of what Yuki is doing. That just makes it crazier because he is doing that in real time with pure skill. These days, there's alot of products people can buy and showcase which is not frowned upon, but some neglect it so much that it doesn't really take any skill anymore (which becomes boring to watch). Yuki is the first Japanese Fool Us winner as well. Congrats!

    • Stop. They don't just "give trophies away to acts they like." That rhetoric is insulting both to P&T and the magicians that compete. It's an idiotic mindset and I'm fed up with it.

      @nanoglitch6693@nanoglitch66933 жыл бұрын
    • Totally agree with Nano Glitch, but beyond that, the art in creating an incredible prop is an art just as much as a perfect execution of dexterity is. And aside of those two arts there is the third art of coming up with an actual routine. You can give anybody a classical RS deck and they will perform the classical routine with it and it will look impressive, but it becomes an art when you built your own routine around it with your own story and presentation and possibly even with your own custom RS deck (and thus your own effect). Using an off-the-shelf gimmick doesn't make an act boring, an act is boring if the routine itself is boring and the effect is overdone.

  • Yukihiro Katayama totally deserves winning the Fool Us Trophy. I was absolutely amazed by his sleight of hand skills. I think the back of the glass was open. So, Yukihiro was able to put the card in the glass so quickly. I am trying to make a rhyme of the moral of the Aesop's fable: Best friends forever Live and die together

    • I caught that too...he has to hold the glass carefully or you can see that the back of the rim doesn't complete a circle

  • I saw some things but didn’t understand how it’s done, i know what he does but not how it’s done and how it works. Happy for him, his dream came true, and that’s great. Thank you sir for this magnificent magic act.

  • This act reminds me of the 2012 French grand prix of magic with Yu ho Jin. Elegance in the extreme and Asian level magic. He's officially the first magician from Japan to get a FU trophy to take back home. Clearly it meant so much to him to get it. 👏🙂

  • The cameras from multiple angles in the show immediately gave the trick away for me at the start. But since Penn/Teller wouldn't have that advantage, I can see how they were fooled. Great trick.

  • Been watching your videos since quarantine! You are my inspiration. I’ve been practicing card tricks following your tutorials and Chris Ramsay’s... I WANT MORE! 😂 especially, I’d like to learn the two last moves you do in your intro! 😮
