He was the best because he literally had everything. Speed, strength, agility, control, skill and one hell of a shot. Before his injuries he was unstoppable.

He never said that he never trained and in fact he said he did train way too much in a way that didn't fit his characteristics, he blames his injuries on the way that he was trained back then and how sports fitness was still developing compared to today. He said all that in a recent interview for a Brazilian podcast channel. You never read or watched him talking about it the way you described.
He was the best footballer ever. I've seen his entire career and I would choose him over Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.

A monster can't be stopped. Defenders tried the same with Pele, it didn't work. Some tried with CR7 during his peak years as well, didn't work. Ronaldo lost 3-0 to France at that time, not so good after all.

Zidane is one the finest, classiest and most technically gifted players EVER! Smarter than the whole French team. But even he meaningfully expressed the fact that R9 was truly on another level beyond any other player he'd seen.

Messi and CR7 are for sure extraordinary players and will be down in the history books as ones of the best of all time .... but R9 was something else, the technique to get past defenders " king of pannas " :D the way he dribbled GKs confidently, how he dropped in the midfield to assist his teammates and his sharpness in front of goal.. bare in mind that this guy used to play in Serie-A against monsters like Maldini, Nesta, Cannavaro, Thuram Monero and others ,... these are kind of defenders that would kill you before letting u dribble through them ,,, and yet he was unstoppable,, too bad he got those two serious injuries,, but for me he is the best striker / player of all time,, thanks R9 for the joy you gave us

@@dexter99999 Ramos was constantly bullied by the likes of Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Henry etc. And Puyol was destroyed multiple times by Drogba. I don't like to compare players of different eras but let's put it like this: If Ramos, for example, have had his peak years during the end of the 90s and beginning of the 2000s I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be considered as one of the best defenders of all time. Playing with and getting destroyed against by some of the best players of all time toughened him up and made him the player he's today in an era where football isn't as competitive as it had been years ago.
