  • I like the A7RV.. Hands down…you’ll never miss a shot… Just use compressed med raw (nearly lossless) to save file size for the majority of the shots…The 60 megapixels gives you room to crop if needed without losing resolution … I wouldn’t worry about shutter sound .. nobody cares about it .. your a photographers … cameras make sound, that’s just natural… and the shutter is not that loud on Sony cameras..The A7RV also does good video as well while taking advantage of the AI autofocus is a game changer.. The A7RV is a wedding photographers dream in my opinion… The A1 is overkill, for wedding, and almost has same mega pixels as A7RV, It’s way too expensive especially if you needed two camera bodies… Yes the A7RV will gather a lot of detail in portraits, but what modern camera doesn’t? The A1 and A74 both grab more portrait detail than desired… Thats why wedding photographers use post editing and processing no matter the camera… No one shoot and delivers photos right out of the box…lol… Oh and computers are much faster these days.. we gotta upgrade our PCs and storage for this new revolutionary tech… It makes the difference!!!😂

  • I'm on an A7III. I think the A7IV is too small of an upgrade. I currently have some issues with AF sometimes and I believe my mount or sensor is a little crooked :( I hope the A7V will have a better viewfinder, same new screen as a7rV, AI-AF and supports different RAW sizes.

  • Solid Video and Agree with your points. I'm using the A7R V, while I agree with you that spending nearly double for it than the A7IV, and getting 26 megs, have to say I find the files a little sharper than the A7IV files at 33 megs. Maybe it's just my eye, not sure. But for me, it's like having three cameras in one. A high res camera for landscapes, or shots where I want to crop heavy, a nice general purpose shooter at 26 megs, and the best Sony APS-C camera with 100% focus coverage. So I think it's money well-spent. Also waiting on the A9III. Hopefully Sony addresses all the points you made. The no-blackout viewfinder is wonderful to shoot with too in silent mode.

  • Thank you for this Video!I do agree with almost everything you said, but for me the sony A7 IV has that screen the opens up on the side that for photos is sooo annoying. At the moment I have a9 mark ii and it does bending in silent mode depending on the artificial light when shooting faster than 1/100 shutterspeed. Plus you forgot to mention that the sony A1 it works in silent mode also with Flash and it had the Anti Flicker in Silent mode..the only reason that makes me think of this upgrade! As you I hope A9 mark ii will come out soon ☺️

  • Very good videos, but I would like to ask... 1. Which camera to choose or recommend just for photos? 2. Which camera to choose or recommend just for video? I understand that the Sony Alpha 1 costs a lot but is it the fusion of both image and video areas?... As an opinion, I could be wrong, but I think that the "ease" of buying both cameras (Image and Video) from the same brand (Sony, Panasonic, etc.) would help to use the same lenses for both cameras or am I wrong? because that point greatly influences the investment. Since if I buy a camera for image and another camera of another brand for video, I would have to buy lenses for each one. I would appreciate your advice and again many thanks in advance.

Did really like the A7IV for shooting events and it colors which you didn’t mention. Looks like A7RV is producing same colors so that’s great. Do hope the A9III is 33 Mpixels which will make it hard to ignore since I’m assuming it will have lots of the updates. Sony could hit a home run if the A9III is a 33Mpixel stacked sensor.

So, there are a few other features to still consider this camera over the a7iv; EVF, Rear Screen (both durability/functional usability & resolution), Next Gen AF, dual CF/SD card slots, Next Gen AWB, Better IBIS, - just to name a few... I plan to use the a7riv and shoot in 26 mp most of the time and change to 61 for detail / landscape shots.

  • What about using the medium raw files on the A7R5 and using the crop mode to push your lens zoom. For instance the Tamron 20 - 40mm gives you 60mm at 31mp. Ive watched a few reviews were they say the medium raw files are impressive. In the UK market at the moment the A74 is £1850 and the A7R5 is £3000 on the grey market - so £1150 more, it has wider 4K 60p and you almost get a free lens with extra crop zoom. Oh - the rear screen as well 😆😆😆😆 thats got to be £500 alone if your working constantly horizontal and vertical

  • Another great video. For me at weddings, I love silent shooting with natural light. The subject has no idea when you are taking photos resulting in more natural pictures. This is especially true with people not comfortable in front of the camera. I don't think Sony make the perfect camera for weddings as I would like features from A7iv (the MP) A9 (stacked sensor for silent shooting) and the A7RV ( for focusing and that rear screen) I believe the A9iii will have the best of all three, lets hope we do not have to wait too long.

      @MrBennyrick77@MrBennyrick77 Жыл бұрын
    • @@MrBennyrick77 The A1 is great but for me and many other wedding and event photographers 50mp is too much. If it was a Canon camera like the R5 that would be ok. The problem with Sony is the file sizes, my 24mp A9 produces around the same file size as the 45mp Canon R5. Twice the size means slow editing time and time is money. I shoot a lot of corporate events when they want a quick turn around, which the huge file sizes of the A1 would hamper. Then you have the cost, here in the UK, Sony like others hike up the price. My A9, which I've had for three years is unfortunately really showing its age. If a spend A1 money I would want a camera as rugged as my Canon 1DX, which I had for 5 years and still worked perfectly. If Sony do come up with a A9 that's a cross between the A1 and A7RV with 30ish MP it would be my perfect camera. We will have to wait and see. I just hope my A9 holds up

    • @@nickwilliams7867 Some great thoughts here Nick. I also shoot a lot of corporate events with an A7IV currently. I need a new body to replace my aging A7III and am disappointed that there isn't a perfect camera for folks like us. @MagicWeddingPhotographer@MagicWeddingPhotographer Жыл бұрын
    • I thought so, thanks for confirming. Full mechanical on the A7IV sounds like two shots are taken when you press the shutter button once. It's super loud in full mechanical as the first curtain has to close, then open again, and then the second curtain closes! (Yes, all mirrorless cameras do this as far as I know) This must be too loud for quiet ceremony moments! I have two more Q's for you! (Or for other Tubers if they know the answers) 1/ How does full mech sound on the A7RV? Is it quieter than the A7IV? AND 2/ Shooting with EFCS on (and mech 2nd curtain), do you ever experience banding in ceremony shots due to LED lighting? Thanks!

  • Hi Magic, great vid! thanks for spending time on this. At 10.47 I thought your med RAWs were a bit small. So I took two rounds of RAWs with A1 in daytime scene, and got around 100MB uncompressed, 60MB for loss large, 38-33MB for loss med, 30-27MB loss small, 54MB compressed, 44MB APSC uncompressed, 30-28MB APSC loss med, 29-28MB APSC loss small, 23MB APSC compressed. I got higher MP for my medium lossless RAWs of 38-33MB, which is also a sweet spot for me for events. Can you tell us what scene you took to get 21MP for med RAWs. Thanks

    @kitminlee9169@kitminlee9169 Жыл бұрын
    • Hey! Just to clarify - MP value does not change depending on compression. Medium Raw is always 21 megapixels, meaning pixel dimension of the image is: 5616×3744 pixels. You can check all the files and you’ll see all medium raws are this big. The MB value you’re getting is just the file size, which can depend on many variables of the scene itself - how many black pixels, what colors etc.

I always wondered if it would just not work because of the megapixel, look of the two cameras that you cold not consistently process the different camera photos to make it work when processing. But I also wished I could get those low light camera benefits of less noise that the lower megapixel camera's get. Anyone who has a thought would be appreciated here! Thanks all!

    • Technically - a great backup camera as it will produce images as good as A7III and has great AF. Main downsides in my opinion are one card slot and not great ergonomics (missing joystick, c buttons and tiny evf). If these are deal breakers I’d rather have a7iii as backup (even used one). But if you are shooting with one main camera and just need something in the bag “just in case”, and you’re pretty confident about shooting with 1 card slot :) then it’s a great option.

    • Sorry, I tested the A7RV and the low light is in all RAW siszes horrible. Sony has some extreme problems with it's shadows. Just try to push the shadows a little bit, and it's full of strange pixels, that can't be corrected from Lightroom. Then i use both my a9 and a7iv for the reception. 10fps from the a7iv is plenty. I turn my a9 down cuz I don’t need 20fps during a wedding. But before I bought the A7iv i used the a7riv in apsc mode for the reception. It’s really a two and one camera because you don’t need those large files for everything. I did that a couple times and it was just taking up too much storage. It was unnecessary even though the photos were nice and detailed, so are the a7iv photos are just as well detailed. But I do like the new flip out screen on a7iv and more than likely will get rid of my. A7riv for the new a7rv. I would be happy if they came out with a A9iii with a stacked a7iv 33mp sensor, 30fps, 4k 120p, a flip out screen like the new A7r5, and dual C-fast type B cards(yes TYPE B CARDS) i would be a happy happy. It's eye AF still works great and will get the job done. And I own the new a7rv and the a7iv and the A9 will still find focus faster then both of them. The a7rv and a7iv find eye AF from farther distances and might have more bells and whistles. But my A9 will be in my bag until it breaks. The only thing I don't like about the a9 is it's God awful loud mechanical shutter. Yeah it's loud. But when I attach a speedlight on top of it and they are dancing in very low light at weddings, the a9 finds focus where I can barely see them with my eyes. I don't know how it does it but it does. And I was almost tempted on buying it first because it focused so quickly but I bought the R4 for the higher megapixels. But a month later I found a screaming deal off of KEH for an a9 that had 2400 on the shutter count for $1900 almost 2 1/2 years ago. I after switching to Sony I dumped the rest of my Nikon gear for a nice selection of lenses third-party. I’m curious what camera you were using canon that you are thinking about switching to Sony? And for how does the A9 do at high ISO. I’m probably not the right person to ask that question because I hate all cameras or anything over 700 ISO. I guess you can call me a pixel peeper and if I see the slightest bit of noise I think the picture is terrible. And that’s on me I shouldn’t look at it like that maybe I got a little chemical in balance lol. • The Canon R6 series does not have a stacked sensor if I'm not mistaken? So how has "Canon already done that with the R6 Mark II"? Seems like a major point if you ask me. But yeah, the 40 fps is impressive. Though 75 RAW max buffer is the bottleneck here. Personally I think it'll be interesting what Canon does with the R5 Mark II (though it's not the direct competition to the A9 series). Honestly I'm also hoping for a 33mp sensor and something in the 30-40 fps while surpassing the A1/A7rV autofocus. Also the Viewfinder and screen will be important for me. I feel like the screen is such a let down considering the A1. Also I hope for the right amount of BIT for the video function! It could be a less expensive, more photocentric, less MP version of the A1 (or A1II). While it's beautiful to have so many options, I also feel a bit overwhelmed sometimes haha :-)

    • @Magic Wedding Photographer I'm switching from the Nikon Z7 (chasing better AF) so the Sony 85 1.8 is my first and only lens and the A7IV is my one and only Sony body. I've tried everything - the firmware is updated to V1.11, changing aperture drive settings, Mark Galer said to try switching off EFCS and that did nothing. The camera shows the green box around the eye and tracking is pretty sticky. My shooting scenario is studio strobe shots under led modelling lamps, f 4.0, tethered to C1. Corporate head shots and group shots. I can see the random front-focus problem on screen as I'm shooting. I end up switching to MF! I'm hoping it is a lens thing, so I'm going to grab the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM and see if that works better in low light. If not, the A7IV will go back to Sony Australia for repair or replacement. If I can't trust the camera in a controlled studio environment, how stressful would it be to use it for weddings?! Thanks for the input everyone, I appreciate it! 👍👍

  • What I really don't understand in your presentation is, you absolutly don't talk about high ISO performance and thats something you have to talk about, when you talk about weddings or events in general. An what wonder, non of the new models would be the pick. After all this years the A7III is the camera to go for, when you want the best overall image quality, if the 24mpix is enough for you. The A7RV is completely out, as it's high ISO performance is even worse than the A7RIV. Also the A1 isn't that great in high ISO performance. If you're someone who shoots most of the time with available light, this camera might not be your camera. Also the tilty-flippy screen slows you down, if you're mainly a photographer. For me personal, the A7RIII (A) is still the best camera to go for. It's ISO performance is way way way better than the A7RV and also the A1. And I prefer this sensor over the 33mpix sensor of the A7IV. I use the APS-C crop mode so much, it's like two cameras in one and the 33mpix sensor is not enough for that. The A7RV would've been perfect camera, but the high ISO performance is just horrible. Just try to push the shadows at ISO 6400. It's horrible. I use the electronic shutter almost the whole time and yes, sometimes you have to be careful with LED banding, but it's so far away from beeing unusable, that I really have to scratch my head, what about you're talking. I wanted to buy a new camera in terms of taxes for 2022, but I was shocked, that we're going backwards in ISO performance. Something I would never ever except for event and weddings. The new A7RV screen is genius and the new AF systems are very nice, but you can't replace image quality with a nicer screen or AF. If I had to buy a new camera now, I would definitly go for the A7RIII A, the version with the old 42mpix sensor, but the new 2mio screen. And if you just want a back up body, buy the A7III. Save the money and get some better image quality even comapred to the A7IV.

    • The 60 MP sensor is natively more noisy because the image pixel photo sites have to be smaller… Similar to film grain.. Lower ISO film is smaller film grain.. (higher detail) Larger ISO means larger film grain crystals… (lower detail)This is similar to camera sensors … So the quality of a sensor is relative to the size of the photo sites pixels on the sensor itself … High Megapixers= smaller photosites or pixel size on full frame sensor.. Lower Megapixel= larger photo sites or pixel size… Larger photo sites on a sensor are more sensitive to light and gather more light info thus having better low light performance… Whereas smaller photosites on a full frame sensor gather less light at the cost of high resolution or higher mega pixels… I faster lens in combination with higher iso is needed for a high res camera of 40-60 megapixels in low light conditions… So a 60 MP camera will not perform as well in low light as a 30MP camera… For low light, the A7IV with fast lens is optimal… But when you need higher resolution in brighter scenarios the A7RIV or A7RV comes in handy… For weddings I would take two cameras… One that is good in low light and the other for higher resolution for outdoor or well lit indoor group shots..

    • @@djrease7354 Ohh come on, no one needs that education lesson. And I don’t follow your argumentation, as this would just be the case for the same generation of sensors without any further development. Best example is the A7RI with it’s 36mpix sensor compared to the 42mipx sensor of the A7RII/RIII that was as real jump in image quality, as you would expect, when you compare an old sensor to a new developed one. The same for the old 24mpix sensor of the A7I/II compared to the A7III generation. It’s not just about the size of each photodiode, today it’s about the hardware and the software behind it. The problem with the 60mpix sensor is, that there was no further developement, they just wanted a 60mpix sensor but the tech wasn’t ready for it in the A7RIV. Now the processors are there, but the software is still not on the level as it would be needed, to get that sensor under control. It’s the opposite, the files look even worse than those of the A7RIV. Canon was blamed for the baked in noise reduction in the Canon R5, but the files look great at high ISOs. So if you want high mpix, you need a better internal noise reduction, to help the converters to get the noise on a normal level. To make it short, if you’re not able to provide the same or better noise performance as the last generation, don’t bring the camera.
