I wished that WandaVision was on the list with how it dealt with grief and loss, and The Falcon And The Winter Soldier with racism in America and Nationalism and Terrorism/protest
I agree. Those should’ve been on this list. Even, at least, on honorable mentions.
Right ? As soon as I saw the title I thought FORSURE they would both be on here.

I was just about to say that.
same, as well as at least a mention of how Cloak & Dagger season 2 dealt with human trafficking
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier tackled so many serious issues, with the main one being Sam’s struggles in becoming Captain America as a black man. Isaiah Bradley’s story was another
Yep.
Most serious movies in the MCU are Black Panther The winter soldier, Iron man, and Civil war. But TFATWS is just as serious
The incredible hulk it was pretty gritty in tone
I think the way Jessica Jones managed to portray such a vivid and powerful metaphor for abusive relationships through even just the character of Kilgrave himself should put it much higher. So well done I think it deserves maybe the top spot.

I think "Agent Carter" should've been a better choice for sexism. And "Agents of SHIELD" in the "Agents of HYDRA" arc for the propaganda point. And "Cloak & Dagger" could've better represented the slave trade which they explore in Season Two, while "Runaways" tackles homelessness. "Captain Marvel" I think best tackles the dehumanization that happens in war.
While Cloak and Dagger does social issues well, Runaways didn't really did much hard tackling of 'homelessness'. I agree Agent Carter is a great choice for Sexism.
@@biocapsule7311 I mean, they did find shelter and cash pretty immediately in the first episode of Season Two, but the Season One finale and the first half of 2x01 did tackle the homelessness angle pretty well IMO.
Dehumanizing the other belligerents in war is a huge part of propaganda. It always has been.
Falcon and Winter Soldier should have also been on this list.
Yes! Finally someone is mentioning Agent Carter. I've just started the show and people are sleeping on Peggy Carter. She's up there with the other MCU women.
Dealing with negative response from trying to do the right thing as a human or as a hero is what I consider to be the most serious topic.
That’s a good point. The world is so corrupt in some places, that being able resist the corruption and stay morally good in the face of adversity is sometimes seen as weakness, rebellious and or traitorous to those whom have been consumed by “evil”. Tbh, I remember a news article about a police officer who was suspended just because he was nice to a homeless person, by buying them food. Like seriously? What is wrong with the world to the point that we punish those who are willing to selflessly support the others? It’s as if it’s Opposite Day everyday where Good people are shunned and punished, whilst the bad get praised?
For me, Civil War dealt with that so well.
@@totalcreativegaming6681 yes, whenever someone kills a violent attacker to defend themselves and/or someone else, people treat them like cold blooded murderers who should spend the rest of their lives in prison.

I would say depression from Thor after the end of Infinity War. Yes, it could be the result of PTSD, but when we see Thor's lifestyle afterwards (Endgame), it is safe to say that he was battling severe depression. The reason being not being able to save the ones he loved... Being a failure and not being able to see that life can unfortunately knock you down, but you have the choice of soldiering on and being afraid of finding peace within you and move on stronger.
@vimal_ jyothi______ exactly! Sorry, it was a typo it's "could be" instead of "would be". And the reason I know it's depression is because I've been through that shit. I was exactly like that (his fat Thor phase) and living in your own bubble... Introverting and isolating yourself...
@vimal_ jyothi______ sending you positive vibes my friend.
I also wanted to write this example! However, I do think that part of the reason what brought on depression for him was repeated trauma and grief that he did not have the opportunity to work through properly... He lost his mother, went through a rough breakup, lost his father, friends, home and finally his last remaining relative, his brother, in a span of a couple years, which is a blink of an eye for a 1500 years old being. That would send anyone for a loop, and Thor is typically the type who bottles up his negative feelings, trying to force a cheerful and optimistic demeanor when he feels anything but. So it made sense that when he failed at the last thing that had him going (defeating Thanos), then he just crumbled completely.
Also, for me, who also struggles with depression, the main positive message was that he was still worthy in the end of wielding Mjolnir. His depression didn't get magically cured and he was still fat and had drinking problems, but it didn't diminish his inherent value as a human being.
@@UmbraKrameri exactly!! Everyone is worthy, even during hard times.
MCU fans who only saw Marvel Studios: NO! DON'T YOU MENTION THE SHOWS FROM MARVEL TV, THEY"RE NOT CANON. Me and MCU fans who saw both Marvel Studios and Marvel TV: Yes they are.

@@lexis4490 Exactly. Well except for Modok as it’s confirmed to be in another universe despite having the Marvel logo. But I know Legion and Gifted aren’t MCU canon as they were technically connected to Fox’s X Men. As for Helstrom well I don’t know

Why didn't they use The Punisher Series for use of PTSD? The whole first season reflects on that at parts.

Since the list consists of shows like Jessica Jones and Cloak & Dagger. Agent Carter is a much better example of sexism than Captain Marvel. Peggy Carter literally had to deal with it during every episode.
Yes! Peggy Carter deserves more respect. Her whole show is about trying to assert herself in a male-dominated workforce after WWII. It deals with sexism far more heavily than Captain Marvel (and I like Captain Marvel).
Forced female sterilization which has been coming into the news a lot lately was discussed by Natasha twice. First in Age of Ultron, then in Black Widow.
Captain America: Civil War dealt with government regulations.
"Sometimes my team-members don't tell me things..." Says the one keeping the murder of Howard and Maria Stark a secret from their son... But seriously: CA:CW was a cluster-fuck of epic proportions, where Team Cap became terrorists because they thought they knew better than the rest of the world, because they didn't trust Tony Stark. If the Avengers posed as a united front, they could have put pressure on the Sovokia Accords signing governments to concede: "Regulations and procedures for Superhero Accountability: Yes. Intrusion into the human and civil rights of Enhanced Individuals: No." I mean, they could have been part of the process and would have been like: "We support the principle, but this incarnation of the Accords is dissatisfactory. If you don't like it, here is our collective resignation from the Avengers." Because there are principles: -- Sovereingty: Every country has the right to deny superheroes entry and establish rules of conduct for them. Superheroes just can't go around willy-nilly and enter countries without their permission without consequences. -- Professionals: What happened in Lagos was an example what happens when superheroes swoop in think they know better than the ANTI-TERRORISM PROFESSIONALS!!! -- Superheroes are NOT above the Law: As it says on the tin. Who supervises the Avengers? What procedures of evaluation of missions are there? Who holds them accountable? Who decides who becomes an Avenger? Who is reliable for damages? On what authority do the Avengers act? AND WHO THE FUCK LET WANDA MAXIMOFF -- A HYDRA TERRORIST -- INTO THE AVENGERS?!!! And who pays for their stuff and lodging? Oh, right! Tony Stark was their sugar daddy why always being "Just a Consultant"... And then Steve Rogers thanks him by keeping secrets from him and then trying to kill him in Siberia, and turning into an internationally wanted Terrorist. AND WHY THE FUCK DID CLINT BARTON -- WHO RETIRED!!! -- ABANDON HIS FAMILY?!!! IF I WERE HIS WIFE, I WOULD DIVORCE THIS ASSHOLE!!!!! AND ANT MAN IS SUCH AN IDIOT!!!! IRL he would go to prison after that stunt, and would have his visitation rights with his daughter revoked. But no! When Steve Rogers tells him to jump, he will ask "How high?"! The Sokovia Accords as they were were bad. But apparently only Tony Stark believed in accountablity and responsibility. Team Cap just wanted to do whatever they pleased, because "MuH fReEdUm!"...
It dealt with unilateral action very similar to the US invasion of Iraq despite the UN disagreeing. The US much like cap says it decided the potential threat was worth action despite a lack of international cooperation. In both situations the threat wasn’t realized and both cap and the US had to face the consequences of hiding information from those they are supposed to serve, cap with Tony and the US with its citizens. Difference is Cap becomes rogue for his actions and suffers consequences whereas the US didn’t really get in trouble for the invasion of Iraq and false premise of wmd’s
The “drinking problem” from Iron Man 2 was from Tony Stark believing he was going to die soon. Way I see it, it’s how he copes with depression by partying, doing whatever he wants, and not caring about the consequences.
Clearly the version of 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' that watched is different to most people's. That was the MCU's most impactful bit of social commentary.
I’m surprised that Falcon And The Winter Soldier isn’t on this list. It dealt with past and present racism excellently.

For my case, I would replace number 4 for grief and depression in "WandaVision".
or tie it into number one as Wanda was also suffering serious PTSD after everything that's happened to her. Punisher as well for the PTSD.
As an activist, I literally teared up in the finale of Falcon and the Winter Soldier where falcon delivered a speech to lawmakers. It tackled on terrorism, refugees, community involvement, and political will of those who have the power to act and change systems.
The speech was passionate, as long as you don't realize that it offered no real solution and realistically accomplished little more than telling its listeners to "do better".

Appreciate this one. Marvel addressed serious issues in both comics (ie: when the Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare and the Senate requested that Stan Lee address the drug issue. Marvel published this without the OK of the Comics Code Authority) and films, but in a way that entertains and gives the message within the film, much like Star Trek. Capt. Marvel can also be a take on prejudice. Much like Star Trek VI, where Captain Kirk realized that not all Klingons are by nature evil, Carol learned that not ALL Skrulls are evil*; Star Trek : Enterprise did a similar tale in the episode Detained, when Capt. Jonathan Archer and T’Pol ran into a zealot after all Suliban, though only a few joined the cabal who were given genetic enhancements by the Future Man. * “Who would I be without my enemy?” - Captain James T. Kirk, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country A nice thing about Marvel, its heroes/heroines are Never perfect; they’re Human, and are seen and allowed to make mistakes and face the consequences.

Doesn't matter, they've established themselves as part of the same universe as the movies, with Avengers events such as the battle of New York having a strong impact on the events of the shows, like in Daredevil.

Basically Ultron spent less than 10 minutes on the Internet has decided we will have to die

TONS of the Marvel movies deal with loss of family members (mainly parents). Guardians of the Galaxy (Peter’s mother, Gamora’s parents, Drax’s family), AOU (The Maximoff Twins’), Thor loses all his family members over the course of his movies..
Agents of Shield handled artificial intelligence much better than Age of Ultron. AOE just made a threat out of it. AOS explored what it means to be alive, and whether us living beings really are just driven by our programming.
The Marvel / Netflix series took very serious issues, in themselves they were series for adults
What about daisy Johnson's guilt over serving hive in aos
Number one: Alien invasion - Avengers.
“And if they don’t?” “Ask Noah” OOOF
This is why I love the MCU.
In avengers when banner talkes about his suicide attempt it was one of the darkest lines in a marvel movie that I’ve seen.
Crreating Ultron without telling the team was Tony's fault and it probably influenced Steve Rogers not telling Tony the truth of his parent's death.
Black widow: human trafficking and the right for women to choose
It's These moments that I like about Marvel movies because it brings humanity to the heroes letting us all know that they're not all perfect you know what I mean they're still human in there they have emotions, morality and trying to figure out what's right and wrong. And this is why MCU will never really be bested by any other cinematic Universe or at least not that easily.
What about terrorism in Iron Man 1 and 3?

Tony’s drinking problem should’ve made it on the list
This is why Marvel is so much better than DC , in their books And their movies. Marvel was the first to deal with the drug problem in SPIDER-MAN, circa 1970-71. Then DC tackled it in the GREEN LANTERN/GREEN ARROW crossover series.
Wow, some of these issues genuinely flew over my head and now I view and appreciate these insights even more now, such as Ant Man and Captain Marvel (Propaganda)

I think WandaVision should of been an honorable mention depicting Grief.
I deeply believe Endgame should be number one for dealing with the 5 stages of grief.
Not MCU, but Logan taught us to stop and smile every once in awhile!!
