I loved watching the conversation with the boat owner. I love seeing people get a chance to share their passion and knowledge.
Yep, I was thinking the same thing. He doesn’t get the chance to do that often I’d bet, and when he found out who his guests were it all came pouring out to be immortalized on KZhead (for as long as the internet lasts anyway). Thanks for doing that guys.
Totally agree. If you're smart, you can infer a lot about how these operations work. But not any of the nuances.
I really enjoyed this. Very wholesome father/son experience, like two best friends having a great time on vacation. My Dad and I have a similar relationship. He is incredibly wise, smart and highly educated and I am constantly learning from him, but at the same time I open doors for him to experience life in new unexpected ways that enriches his life as well. Engineer fathers FTW!
16:45 that reaction of the acceleration of the tesla was priceless!
I call that "The EV Giggle". I have heard it from biggest and baddest mofos. Errybody gangsta until EV goes brrrrr.
It's good to see fellow geeks walking around in the normal world and approaching it in the same way I do, with focus on technical gadgets and enjoying life. 🤓 This video made me happy! Thanks! And if you ever start a travel-company where you're the tour guides, count me in! 😄
Glad you guys got to take a fun little vacation there and you brought us along. I don't want you to shirk your Tech duties but you could add one of these vids every now and again. Hell I wouldn't mind seeing you round out the channel with an occasional "Cooking with Tech Ingredients" to go with the making hootch etc. I get the sense you're not too shabby with an apron on and knife and cutting board instead of the lathe and mill.
Thanks, and that's the plan.
Collaboration with other tech / engineering youtubers across the country would be nice too :)
@@Booyamakashi The first thing that popped into my head was Tech Ingredients + StyroPyro and I'm not sure the world could handle that.
When in doubt, I vote for teleporatation.
So many ethical dilemmas
@@matthewellisor5835 okay whatever Thomas Riker…
To birds with one stone, committing suicide and nobody will be the wiser. Seriously quantum teleportation is terrifyingly horrific.
You may, but your xerox might not
Teleportation would be great. Maybe Beamed Energy Propulsion will eventually mimic teleporting, but there's just the inertial mass problem, that may be solved by MHD...
That was super nice of the airline to let you set up for the shot and fly by again. 👌🏼
Glad to see you guys taking care of yourselves by having a good time on a vacation! Fresh minds come up with great ideas.
Agreed
@@TechIngredients These type of vids are good once in awhile...
It's so fresh to experience a Tesla for the first time through eyes of these guys. Love it!
That was the point. I didn't want to look lost or as if I was in over my head, but both were true, and we thought sharing that would be worth it.
@@TechIngredients it worked and you did great
@@TechIngredients Well done! Absolutely loved that part.. and the other parts!
You can tell that airboat guide was loving you guys. i bet it's not often he gets to nerd out about airboats with his customers.
I bet it’s everyday 🤣
@@taylorb2783 I bet not, the guy was ecstatic like it was Christmas morning
As funny as it was watching you figure out the Tesla, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that would probably happen to me. 😅 Looks like an awesome vacation!
That's exactly why we included it in the video. 🙂
8:22 Funny thing is... you do need jumper cables. The main batteries won't need them, but there's a regular 12v car battery as well for controlling the relays and everything that can become empty and/or die.
Enjoyed your chat with the captain. As much as I like to see different locations, it's always great to talk to guys like these, you learn so much , and I am sure they must appreciate someone with a genuine interest in their skills and what they are doing.
Next time, experience public transport in europe? No car required: you can get almost anywhere in Switzerland by public transport - even as high as 3454m altitude.
I have many times. You have a good point. However, Europe, the entirety of it is relatively small, and distances more limited than in some regions or where the economy is more limited. Options are important.
@@TechIngredients I agree with you, but the US has in my opinion a lot of work to do to transform cities, housing policies and transport systems to depend less on cars. Electric cars is not going to resolve the long list of problems we and our children will face, it will just create other problems. Better solutions are designing cities that focus on multimodal transport options, including walking and cycling, plus dense regional rail, and some long distance high speed rail lines. These trains can transport typically between 500 and 1000 passengers. But building this infrastructure takes a lot of time and political will power. I doubt the USA will ever get there.
Great interview with the airboat captain. Learned a lot there.

When I watch this, I regret my far too dull and distant relationship to my father.
You can rectify that with your children.
It’s really great that you guys have the opportunity to make these kinds of memories together. I had the opportunity to do similar things with my dad and hold on tightly to the memories of our yearly trips down to a beach house in FL that my grandma had. He passed away a few months back, and this video is pretty difficult to watch but it also makes me happy in a way, and it makes me look back on those times. Keep doing these trips and making these memories together because no matter what, they’ll always put a smile on your face when you look back on them.
Beautiful comment... Real Talk ❤️💭🙏🏻
You're so lucky, you seem to have a great relationship with your father. Wish i'd had that. Please do more videos like this.
Super happy to see you guys enjoying life and adventuring. The airboat stuff was fun. The captain's "second time" joke was the same one I use daily in a similar line of work... 🤣
To see a couple of extremely well-educated and intelligent men go through the tesla was extremely entertaining. Please don't take this the wrong way but I was getting the beginning of the movie 2001, if the truth be told we are all apes poking stuff new to us with sticks. I believe it is the first time I've ever seen you even slightly outside your comfort zone. I do hope you take that in the good-hearted manner it was intended. I would not get in that car without having read some kind of instruction manual.
Don't worry, we get it, and you're right.
Your comparison to the iconic scene with the apes trying to figure out the monolith is quite apt, and relatable -- hahahaha.
It looks and sounds as though you guys had a great time. Thanks for sharing some of it with us, and giving us a change of tempo. Looking forward to seeing some of the things that this trip has inspired you to create, back in the workshops. 🙂👍
This channel is what I dreamed of while BBS'ing in the 90s. Finally we're here. I knew the tech would come to this. Eventually.
Awesome video all the way around. The curiosity of the channel to the captain of the airboat was awesome.
It's a nice addition to your channel to see the two of you out and about in the normal world and having some congenial interactions with each other. You're of course not obliged to do so, but I think it lends some more depth to the science and tech videos when we can relate to your characters. We already had the long-standing inside-joke that the two of you were "Main Presenter" and "Son of Main Presenter", and only after a long time have we heard your personal names. So I think we're making progress 🙂. Anyhow, I can't imagine there's any risk that this is going to turn into a lifestyle channel... unless that lifestyle is having a fabulous lab/shop in which to explore whatever crazy experiment comes to mind!
You can add a hitch to a Tesla. It even unloads your trailer automagically when pressing the accelerator Pedal. 😉
Great video, guys! The look around the Tesla and the airboat explanation were very interesting. 👍
Been to that airboat ramp so many times, wish I knew you were down here. Glad you had a great vacation! Wish you will come back soon :)
Very fun and interesting video. Had a great time being your virtual guest. Keep up the fun video's and I will sub for a very, very long time 🙂
Nice to see you guys having some fun!
I really enjoyed this video it was a nice contrast to the highly polished video you usually do and it looked like fun. I will need to go to Kennedy space center sometime.
The restaurant, eyeballing the... scenery. "Yer done."😂 Also, geeking out at NASA, yeah I'm all about that! Thanks for sharing!
I was fully expecting a detailed assessment of cost, carbon footprint, time commitment, biological impact assessments, etc on different modes of travel. From what we're used to, I still don't know what I just watched 😅
“How to have vacation and write it off as a business expense” may be a better title
@@te2839 "Follow Tech Tips for more tax tips!" 🤣
But it was fun. But not too often. But fun :)
'Traffic circle' The vehemency of the reaction this generated in me caught me very much by surprise.
Enjoyed it alot, with your personalities i think i could get addicted to Tech Ingredients crocheting
Super fun video. Road trip films are great. I was at Kennedy Space Center in 2014 and they were building the space shuttle experience. Now I need to go back again :).
I appreciate this video, because it allowed us as viewers to get to know you both better as people, as father and son and the dynamics of that relationship. Thanks for sharing this film.
Our pleasure!
Doing more of these on occasion is nice
To answer your question I say if you have the money go for it. I would love to experience a Michellin restaurant one day, but for now all I can afford is TOYO restaurants 😅.
I just happened to go to one once while skiing a number of years ago, and I am not money... They were smaller, not cheap, but not that expensive. My dinner was maybe $45 canadian? It was very good tho, one of the nicest overall dinning experiences I have had. Good luck, you may find a lesser known one to try for a bit less yourself.
I have been wanting to ride an airboat since I saw Flipper on TV.
🐬No one you see is smarter than he.
I enjoyed this and the stuff that was new to me, especially the stuff about the hover boat, swamp buggy. I forget what they are called.
Give me trains, or give me death!
Funny to watch you speeding around the back roads of Titusville where I used to live. Hope you found some more open roads to let it loose a bit more. Also hope you tried some of the local donut shops (Titusville has three independently owned and operated), what I consider its finest cuisine.
Ha!
Hey that was a fun trip ... bit of a vicarious treat ... cheers guys.
That was fun, thanks for bringing us along.
Our pleasure!
I didn't know I wanted a tech uncle restaurant vlog. But I'm glad we got it.
"The is a function to keep it nice and cool" said with perfect DeMuro aplomb LOL 😂😆😁
An interesting video, thank you. I had a brief loan of an electric car while my petrol ones was being serviced, wow, the acceleration was phenomenal (even on a small family car).
Tesla has a Valet mode, but you'd need to give them the backup key-card or the key-fob.
Thumbs up on this post, it is a beautiful thing to see any engineer outside his or her element. ( Like a kid in a candy store, don't know what to absorb first )
Imagine them in like Disneyworld, asking the personel all those technical questions before each ride! 😂
It's funny you mention that. This actually happened.😁
Yes, you can get a hitch for a Model S. I use mine for a bike rack and a small utility trailer.
That's one hell of a vacation!
I need to go on trips with you guys. Riding in style eating at the best of the best, and going on field trips to cool places. Looked like a great time...
Love it!
Really like the new format and presentation ;)
8:23 Actually you might need some jumper cables. Electric cars have low voltage system just like ordinary cars with lead acid battery to power on the lights as well as some always on features, for example using app to access the car. Car also has some circuits to charge the lead acid battery ever so often so you don't stay locked out of the car but some other electric cars used to have a problem with discharging lead acid battery because some apps asked car about charge of main battery too often.
Good one, great content.👍
The airboat was awesome. You asked good questions. I do wonder what kind of motor that was though. And is it direct drive or have a transmission.
As he clarified, it is a reduction, gear drive. There is no transmission.
This video is really good, quality vacation content with eciting techy spices. Top noch, looking forward to this kind of content also on future ocasions.
Thanks!
OMG 3:25 you're funny, Howard!!! I already love where this is going hahahah
I tried to find some old stuff from Scientific American. Could not find what I was looking for, early seventies, the had tech to build at home. I wished I could find the seismograph and amp with a graph drive in discrete parts to get a paper out with the lines . The other one is a dye laser that used a flowing dye and a xenon tube, if the fifty years are not deceiving. Brother had a whimshurst and I had a XRay coil from the old stuff that was in the high school. Made the best jacobs ladder , and it would run the length of the longest coathanger I had . Love the tech you show so easy , but I know you spend madly. Much appreciated and I wish you could do either.
Loved it. I’ve often thought that kids who watch your videos will be inspired to build spaceships and other advanced technology someday.
Really loved it thanks.
What did you use for a camera? Came out great.
Phone, GoPro, and Lumix dslr cameras
@@TechIngredients Panasonic Lumix cameras are great, under rated, and slept on by many folks. I still have my 4mp model. It takes far better photos than most other 16mp cameras I have.
You can let someone else drive a Tesla without the phone. You just tap the key icon in the app and they can drive it. It will automatically lock when they park and get out, and you just tap the key icon in the app again when the valet goes to get it for you.
Good tip
Damn, they spared no expense on that resort aye. Sunshine, pools, and a little drinky drink must have been a good time.
I'm glad you guys had the central Florida experience - and the launch! Great stuff.
Your "research" trip is so far good. I am at the 2nd michelin star part!
Ow, that hurt when you yanked the Tesla's charge port door open. All you have to do is press on the corner or tap the icon in the app (or on the center screen).
I have stayed at thar hotel many times. The seafood and steak restaurant down stairs is an absolute must dine. Not terribly expensive, but absolutely amazing.
Noted, thanks!
Jet engine powered pontoon boat is my preferred method 😉 technically it's titled as an air boat...
I usually don't care one bit for "here's my private life" style of videos, but since I love your science & engineering content so much, and the fact that you are one of the few who actually mean it when they say they read all the comments, I decided as my way to pay you back for all the effort you surely must put into every video, I will give you a fair shot and watch this video in its entirety, taking notes along the way. Without further ado, here's my feedback, as requested (somewhat): - Airport Fast Forward was bit too fast, got disorientating at least to someone like me, who has to take severe medication and whose brain simply cannot process at that speed anymore. Maybe slow it down a bit should you have need of it again, cut the segment a bit so you can play it slower without it feeling too long. - The music during that segment was very fitting and well chosen, good job.. made the mundane a tad less dreary. - Re the front license plate... mates, you are preaching to the choir... here in Germany, it's sadly mandatory for all cars and all federal states to have license plates both front & back, and they have to have a plastic frame, and be illuminated, and highly reflective, and are also bigger than the U.S. ones I've seen so far. - Re the braking, it's regeneRAtive, not "regenetive" or anything like that, heh.. think "regen" ~ "era" (kinda like error with a southern twist mebbe) - "tive". And yes, Carwow for example rightly criticized that the regenerative braking on Teslas can be overkill to the point where you don't even need a brake pedal anymore to slow down to a stop in slow traffic. - As for the "little wibble-wobble (lol)", that's actually the traction control (TCS) kicking in, doing its job as it says on the tin to keep the wheels from spinning, as you gave it full beans with relatively cold tyres. - The hotel though, daaayum... never been anywhere even remotely as nice, and never will sadly... but I was really surprised that no one jumped you about filming there... or did you get permission in advance? Because normally, high end establishments's pretty much number 1 priority is to protect the privacy of their guests. - The restaurant bits though, they felt almost a bit too private, like a real nice father-son-moment, not that I have any idea what that would feel like, so at least I personally wouldn't have shared something like that, and it also felt a bit weird to watch... but I guess I never liked any so-called "reality" TV either. - The comment regarding this being a technical channel was rather spot-on, heh... but it also gave me an idea for a modification potential: less "filler" private life moments, more you guys going around the country or even world and checking out cool technological achievements, maybe even trying to get in touch with their inventors/manufacturers, getting us an in-depth explanation of how they work, why they work, stuff like that should be right up your alley after all and could be really nice especially for people outside the U.S. and/or those who simply cannot afford to travel, like myself (though I cannot even leave the flat, so there's that). - The airboat segment is a great example of what I suggested above... if you would do such excursions regularly to explore those special vehicles, or other cool tech, that would definitely keep drawing me back to your channel (which I of course have subscribed to). - KSC is another great example, some very, very(!) cool shots, very informative soliloquy on Hubble, though sound quality could have been better, lapel mic preferable. All in all, this video to me was a mixed bag, but it had some nice highlights, and I feel that if you expound on those and cut the rest, you could have a great concept for a kind of Tech Ingredients Special, like the Top Gear Specials, where you guys go out to do something in the wider world, take us along to explore cool tech, bespoke engineering, stuff like that. Obviously all the above is just my personal preference.
Even though I have a terrible time with heights, my first thought was "I wonder if someone could jump off that balcony and reach the pool below."
I was on the 5th floor once and the first thought i had when i looked down from the balcony was "I wonder if I could survive that."
Needless to say, I'm only paralyzed from the waist down so I'd call that a success 😂
I have a weird relationship with heights. I sometimes lock-up on steps to our 2nd floor, and when I can move again I sit and kinda do a bouncy slide down. Yet, standing a foot from the edge of a 1000-2000 foot cliff without railing or anything didn't bother me. My first thought about the pool was: "I need a flying squirrel suit." Then I thought I was falling out of my chair. Almost always high places give me an urge to jump because I think I'd like the sensation prior to landing.
Most interesting..! Thank you...
Awesome video !...cheers RIP Calculon
1:51 normal tires, maybe by looks, but those are fancy low rolling resistance/ designed for ultra low road contact sound producing tires.
Awesome video!
You should do more of these video vacations neat...I don't really get to take vacations. I get to go along with you two.
Tech Ingredients: The Vlog Show. I like it!
I'd choose the Tesla because personal experience I know its a very comfy and enjoyable way to road trip. I hate flying because Three Stooges Agency (I've flown for personal travel only 4 times in 20 years) Boats meh Space shuttle has far too high a failure rate so the pucker factor would be very high
Did challenger really explode? Or are the crewmembers still doccumentably still alive and working around the United States? Hint, they are and it didn't.
Very cool video. Make more of these please.
Thanks!
"Intelligent but stupid" perfectly describes sooooooooo many co-workers...
The shots at 38:16 and 38:20 are epic.
I didn't realize this was gonna be a vacation vlog.
High power Foot scooter is my favorite!
I hope the self driving car that was running from the service techs was screaming “No disassemble!” from its speakers while fleeing.
Any ETA, when the website shop will open up again? orders and paying via PayPal aren't possible
That giant bird almost got pierced by a Falcon.
Looks like a good time was had by all.
As a german, my favorite choice is FAX.
Ha!
You guys are great man i love the channel.
Fantastic! I live in Kissimmee. The opposite shore, I believe, of yout airboat excursion is technically Kissimmee. Although 90 miles from Cape Canaveral, I can walk out my front door and weather permitting, I can easily see the launches! This is an interesting place with Sandhill cranes as close friends and the occasional alligator on my front lawn! I'm glad that you seemingly enjoyed your stay!
Glad to see your still alive, after you didn't release a video for a while I was getting concerned you'd been wacked for showing everyone how to make cheap graphene 🤪
If you could do an experiment on engines running on gasoline fumes instead of actual liquid being sprayed into the cylinders that would be very informative. Because of your knowledge and professionalism a lot of us would love to see if this can be done. Thanks
Effective, efficient, reliable, and believable. That's what I'm looking for and at.
I have visited Atlantis some years ago. What did you think about the introductory film in the theatre? When the wall opened, I had tears in my eyes. I consider myself lucky to have been able to visit all the remaining Space Shuttles. Including my favourite: Enterprise. Looked like you had fun too.
The boat reminded me of that Beastie Boys music video called Check It Out .
I would personally prefer these on a secondary channel, but I don't know if that is algorithmically detrimental or beneficial for your particular content, schedule, etc. 🤷♂ Whatever works. 👍
5 mins into a 45 min video and certainly agree. Best on secondary chan, probably opens up a few more opportunities to do more experimental stuff on 2nd chan too.
It's detrimental. That information is gold because you won't hear that elsewhere.
I too would prefer these on a secondary channel. I know it's really hard to build up the second channel, but in the long run I think that "watering down" the main channel might be worse. I almost always skip "odd" content from the channels I'm subscribed to since it isn't what I subscribed to see. This video I skipped around for a couple of minutes and then stopped watching since I don't find travel vlogs especially interesting.
I really enjoy your channel. You seem to have similar interests to my own. You should look up the fascinating biography of Dr. Story Musgrave. (He has multiple doctorate degrees in diverse subjects, including neurosurgery.) He is the person that was a lead designer of the repair optics for the Hubble. He also did a space walk to install the repairs to the telescope. I had the pleasure of attending a lecture he gave for Gulfstream Flight Test department about 5 years ago. I highly recommend looking at a book he authored as a photographic essay on the T38 trainer aircraft; beautiful artwork. I enjoyed the segment on the airboat ride. I did a similar jaunt w/ my daughter's family when they visited us. It looks like you were on the St. John River. Was it the Camp Holly outfit? Thx for your 'work' on this channel. Keep up the good work.
So glad you and your dad got to do this together.
