- @@Hussain-gr6vc actually that's two different types of damage. African American or just black folks hair in general is very good at soaking things up when nourished and properly moisturized but if not, it becomes dry and looks and feels brittle and coarse. Brushing it out in the shower DOES stretch it and put a bit of strain on the strands but because if the molecular makeup it isn't as easy to snap as say, thin Caucasian hair. It's like...stretching a spring vs stretching an elastic band. One has far more give and can spring back after being stretched far more than the other. As for the washing it every day, if that is done to black hair it strips absolutely wleverything from the strands and leaves them dry and brittle and undermoisturized. Which in itself will cause FAR more damage in the short term and long term, than brushing it in the shower. It has a different effect than it dies on Caucasian hair. With Caucasian hair it's thinner and doesn't hold as much so it takes far less oils from the scalp naturally to saturate the strands and give it that clumpy greasy look, but black hair isn't like that, and sometimes it can even be hydrophobic, which means the hair isn't even fully able to soak up the water or moisturizing products just on its own (or why you have to apply so much at one time, or have to apply it again and again daily for the hair to KEEP the moist appearance)

My boyfriend has hair like this, however, his mother never let him embrace it much, so it was always cut or straightened. Luckily, we both have curly hair so we can both continue to learn together on how to treat out hair.😊
