    • That’s been a practice since, what, 2011-12? All the OEMs can afford to give a very good long term phone around the $400 segment. But that’ll eat up into the sales of their big $ flagships. Precisely why Apple operates ONLY in the premium space, where it has segmented the premium space itself.

  • There is a lot of potential with the design they are going for, because almost nobody else except ROG has experimented with the exterior lighting, which could become really useful with photography and low light conditions where a normal flashlight might be too much. It's also incredible how far they have progressed with their software, and their mentality as a smaller phone company is really refreshing to see in this age of constant upcharging for non-existant upgrades. • I have the Nothing Phone 1 and after an year of using it I'm happy with it. The things I dont like in it, are the location of the buttons and finger print reader. The lock button and sound buttons are located at equal height, so when a grab my phone and press the lock button , often my hand press the sound buttons as well, which generate a screenshot. The finger reader, could just be better, but its not a bug issue. All other stuff are fine and consider the price tag and the nice design which definitely stands out I think it is a good buy.

    @oshl4387@oshl438710 ай бұрын
    • How does it look like an iphone 4? To me it shares more in common with the transparent-back Xiaomi Mi 8 or HTC U12+, phones from 2018. Not old enough to be retro, not innovative enough to be futuristic. ASUS and others have already taken the approach of slapping programmable LEDs on the back of a device (on their laptops), so that doesn't seem like much of an advance there, either. Which isn't to say I don't like the device, but it seems to be going more for "character", like Marques pointed out, and not doing anything particularly disruptive.

      @AbhishekKumar-vx9ub@AbhishekKumar-vx9ub10 ай бұрын
    • @@AbhishekKumar-vx9ubthe shape is a metal and glass slab, pretty much like every other phone out there. If they are referring to the flat metal sides, yes, that's reminiscent of the iphone 4 but that's about it. There isn't Apple-like chamfering, the cameras don't have a similar layout, and the back is completely different. You might as well compare it to the HTC One, which at least was an Android phone. To me it's like comparing a modern car to the Ford Model T: sure, you have the same basic idea of 4 wheels and a boxy-ish shape that carries people, and most people will understand the reference, but I'm not seeing much of a resemblance otherwise.

      @zivzulander@zivzulander10 ай бұрын

    • @@AbhishekKumar-vx9ub Thanks for interjecting on my behalf. I'm not going to engage with the other replies. Geez. Some people just enjoy being toxic & combative. (Please let them stay off Threads.) I glanced at the transparent/white Nothing Phone (2) and took note of the general shape, back cover, and side bezels, while viewing a few Shorts about the Glyph interface. The first thought that popped into my head was, "If I were evaluating abstract art, I'd say that piece looks like it's clearly influenced by & borrowing liberally from Apple's iconic era of iPhone 4 design language for styling (and iPhone 5 to a lesser degree) , while utilizing current or even futuristic tech (the updated Glyph LED functionality.)" Maybe the vibe of being an homage - to Jobs & Ive's early Apple iPhone collaboration - comes across better with the choices made for the transparent/white variant, or maybe not. It's okay if other people feel like it looks nothing like any OG iPhone from the annals of history, and more like another phone entirely (from a more recent year.) Art is subjective. I said what I said!

If it's only while wireless charging, leaving it in the car for an hour or two while at the beach won't be q big issue but i use my phone as a ln alarm like most people, so if it stops charging, no big deal. However if it gets hot enough to shut down, I won't be waking up on time. Hoping it stops charging while it cools and not a full shut down.

    • @@dyscotopia They wont, I Studied carl pei modus operating long time ago... I am developer , and I was the one of the first adopters of onePlus, why I'm talking about OnePlus ? its because it was the same company run by Carl Pei, and Why i'm talking about carl pei? guess what ? Nothing Phone Company is founded by Carl Pei and he is the CEO. Now why I'm giving all this information? Well, if you don't remember, back in 2014 OnePlus made a partnership with CyanogenMod to include a better operating system and offer value to the open source community, but quickily after oneplus break records in sale, carl pei just decided that CyanogenMod was of no use, and started a fight with the cyanogenMod developers, so what he did ? he just threw buggy OxygenOS (which some ppl liked it) just because it was same thing as AOSP. After some time he just swapped oxygenOS for ColorOS, I mean color OS is not bad, but they did that to cut expenses as they have a third party company that manage colorOS. But what is the problem with that? Well, ColorOS doesnt even give the kernel source of their roms properly they are not open source community friendly. so Carl Pei is not even a bit interested in the open source community and I bet my a*s that after some time they will put color OS in the nothing phone too. So the modus operandis of Carl Pei is, Create a white label company, hire a third party company to do their phone, do some design that nerds will like (that you literally can do with any phone case) (not) develop a operating system, caliing it innovative(but you know next phones will use color os anyway) but if you look properly its just pure android with few extra features. Make a cheap phone ( one plus one, nothing phone ), make a second phone(oneplus two and nothing phone 2) (expensive with old specs), make a premium phone with premium price that you can get in any samsumg galaxy ultra on discount. Any coincidence or I need say more ? Don't buy nothing phone ever, its just scam.
