  • If you're trapped underwater in an aircraft, your best resource is the metal body of said aircraft. Have someone otherwise less useful tap the SOS pattern (thee taps, three spaced out taps, three taps, wait, repeat) until help arrives. Especially this close to the United States, there are hundreds to thousands of hydrophones in the water, and with modern technologies only one is needed to triangulate the position of the aircraft to a fairly accurate range. This also tells the operator that at least one person is alive.

    @richardm6704@richardm67042 ай бұрын
    • let me know if im wrong but are you using triangulation loosely here? because im not sure if you could call it that with only one hydrophone or is there a way?

      @hellooooo880@hellooooo8802 ай бұрын
    • @@hellooooo880 maybe you would consider it "loose", each hydrophone housing has multiple sensors for maximum coverage and if two sensors are triggered then range and direction can begin to be calculated. If sensors on two devices are triggered this is of course more accurate, and the readings from multiple sensors can be cross checked to improve confidence.

      @richardm6704@richardm67042 ай бұрын

  • Engineer here and I can’t just shut up about all these moments xD 1. No birds would fly at the altitude that airliners fly. Thin air is harder to fly in and breathe for no benefit (birds don’t benefit from better fuel economy) 2. While a bird strike could cause a lot of damage. Not like this. It wouldn’t lead to half the plane ripping apart (unless you happen to be flying Boeing, but no bird required for that) 3. Should the plane rip open like that, no one that isn’t already secured down is gonna have even a second to hold on to anything. You will be sucked out faster then you can even tell you’re getting sucked out. On the bright side it wouldn’t last long and pressure will equalise quickly. 4. Missing 1 engine and even part of the fuselage. As long as the plane didn’t already fall apart it should be flyable. It’s possible all controls were destroyed but then a crash landing wouldn’t be happening either. 5. Water landings are hard enough, if the plane wasn’t controlled very well and crashed like in the movie there wouldn’t be much more left then a couple panels to wash up on nearby beaches 6. If somehow the plane survived the crash landing. There is no way it would sink that fast. First pretty much all of the air would have to leave the plane. No air pockets bigger than a few liters each. Not half the plane with less water then when I mop my floor. 7. I think you get it x3

    • Also assuming this all would happen. Do not put on multiple life vests, they are designed to keep you out of the water and wearing multiple can cause you to drown. That way they might flip you the wrong way up. 1 vest should have plenty. It would also slow you down when going up most likely. They would cause more drag in the water and not really help. Air isn’t really as much of an issue as you think either. The air pressure at this depth would be higher. This means you can fit more air in your lungs. As you go up the air expands, it gives you a little extra. Either way you are only swimming up, the record is to go down and then up. So I think in an emergency situation, most people should be able to do this

In real emergency landings….expect some people to clog the evacuation route because they want to get their suit case and bring it.

  • diver here- so, leaving that plane would’ve probably led to death- and not because the sharks. Basically, when you dive, nitrogen bubbles build up in your lungs, guts and joints. Was you rise you have to let the bubbles leave your body- and if you don’t you can get decompression sickness which can be deadly. The change from that pressurized chamber to the open ocean would’ve probably popped something in their sinuses depending on how equalized the plane was by then. Normally you also have to do decompression stops wen you’re that deep for multiple minutes at a time- which they couldn’t have done. Overall, other than immediately leaving the plane- the next safest option would be a group swim up. The sharks wouldn’t attack a slow moving group upwards, as long as you don’t panic. Them staying would’ve realistically led to someone dead from nitrogen poisoning. Thats a very simple explanation but if u wanna look into it it’s pretty cool! (ANYWAYS LOVE UR CONTENT KEEP IT UP ❤)

  • Also, right at the beginning, I'd like to point out that Brandon SHOULD NOT have pulled that shrapnel out. If you ever have shrapnel in you, especially in your chest, the last thing you want is to pull it out. Your chest is where your heart is, and around your heart, there are arteries. A TON of arteries. If that shrapnel nicked an artery, then you'd be dead in a matter of minutes at best. The blood would also attract sharks quicker. Instead, find a first aid kit and bandage your chest to keep the shrapnel stable, making sure it doesn't move. If you live long enough for rescue teams to find you, they'll pull it out. Never do it yourself.

  • Simple. During the plane crash brace for impact, try to relax, also keep a firm grip so you don’t get free sky diving lessons, also use the oxegyn masks, let gravity do its thing, as so as you land, or should I see free fall into the freezing blue depths, I would get up grab a life jacket, a piece of debris if needed for a weapon, then I would wait a bit, make sure everyone is ready because the ideal situation is a calm group swim up. I’m not staying in the plane NUH UH.

  • @1:38 - also seeing how the plane is leveled off (meaning it is no longer ascending into the air); there is no way birds would be flying that high to hit the engine. Most typical planes level out ~ 18,000 feet in the air. Also notice how all the main characters are the only survivors and conveniently there is a "pocket of air" in the fuselage?

  • I love how movies portray sharks as some bloodthirsty animal but they are just sea puppies, they are curious about humans and wont attack unless provoked or if you do certain behaviours. Like frantikly swimming away like some injured fish that will make it think you are its prey. Just like many videos on youtube about sharks, you can hold it by its nose and move it away from you and you are all good. But that doesnt mean they will never attack, they have certain hunting times too and at that time they may attack, but do remember that sharks have no taste for blood for humans and other mammals, they are more attracted towards fish blood through all the years of their evolution

  • Great video! Just wanted to say as a pilot the rule of thumb is aviate, navigate, communicate. Judging by how quickly things went wrong I don’t think they would have made a distress call as it takes the least priority. There is however an emergency location transmitter(ELT) that should be located in the back of the plane. The survivors could activate it!

  • Jeez, not only were they unlucky enough to end up with a bird strike, they were hit by one of the only birds that can fly at an airliners cruising altitude (29,000-30,000ft) a Rüppell's vulture. Conclusion whatever higher entity you believe in really wanted that plane going down. Oh and engines are actually designed not to explode like that but this one probably had some sort of defect, or wasn't maintained very well. I'm guessing a bit of both. Inversely however, whoever made that plane's airframe is either a wizard or a genius because that plane survived slamming into the ocean at speeds that would normally have caused literally anything else to disintegrate and not only that, managed to stay COMPLETELY intact, even intact enough to remain air tight in some areas it also hit the water with it's entire underside. the engines even remained attached. not even mentioning that that planes fuselage is also strong enough to avoid being crushed by the water pressure. TLDR: I overanalyze a movie and come to the conclusion this movies plot devices were a ridiculously rare bird, shitty engines, and a plane with an indestructible airframe.
