Lyrics:
So run
Run right back to school
Check it
Look back, I sift through all the cliques
Roaming' the halls all year, making me sick
While everyone's out trying to make the cut (What)
And when you think you know me right, I switch it up
Behind the walls, smokin' cigarettes and sippin' vodka
I hop a fence to catch a cab, ain't no one can stop us
Give me a break about some other mess
What were you? Act like it's everything you got
Push back the square
Now that you need her but you don't
So there you go
'Cause back in school
We are the leaders of it all
Stop that quit! All that quit!
Who ruined it? You did! Now grab a notebook and a pen
Start taking notes, I'm being everyone who's on the top
You think we're on the same page, but, oh we're not!
I'll be the man, watch your backpack and the pencils
Just like Kool Keith, he now flippin it, why you just keep it simple?
You just can't go wrong rocking the clothes
Coppin' the stance, 'cause really is everything that you got
Push back the square
Now that you need her but you don't
So there you go
'Cause back in school
We are the leaders of it all
So transpose
Or stop your lies
It's what you do
Transpose or stop your lies
So run
So why don't you run, so why don't you run
So why don't you run back to school
So why don't you run, so why don't you run
All you are - Now I'm on the next page
All you are - It's time to close the book up
All you are - I'm on the next page
All you are - Close the book up now
Push back the square
Now that you need her but you don't
So there you go
'Cause back in school
We are the leaders of it all
We are the leaders of it all
We are the leaders of it all
So why don't you run, so why don't you run
So why don't you run back to school
So why don't you run, so why don't you run

  • I was actually there. I'm in the video. It was such a surreal experience. A whole bunch of deftones fans mixed in with some extras. And during a break while filming in the gym they played change (in the house of flies). It was such an honor to be there the band was totally cool with everyone, was talking to Abe most of the time he is so down to earth. Awesome time. This was filmed in la/valley college. Thank you Deftones......

  • Chino hates this song because the record label demanded them to release a "catchy / short" song to promote the white pony album. because all the other songs were too slow and long according to them . So an spiteful Chino took the slowest, longest song of the album (pink maggit), made the tempo faster, added distortion and some rapping with the first stupid crap that came to his mind, just to "show those mfers how easy it is to make a hit single". the result was Back to School, and the label loved it.

    • I love how they made this song just to prove how easy it is to make a single just by changing a few things off the fly yet it's still an awesome song. That just shows how much potential Deftones has and that they don't have to make songs that are only meant to be hit singles. I just love Deftones :)

  • When the label added this song to "White Pony," it may have been a commercial decision but it ended up making a great album even better. It gives the album a kind of arc, starting out with "Back To School," which is rousing and fun, and then going through all the mood swings of the album before ending with a "reprise" of the "first" song ("Pink Maggit"), except this time it is more like a dirge, as if the band has been worn out and exhausted and this is their last, cathartic transmission before collapse. It was a brilliant addition to the album, but it wasn't an artistic decision, it was a crass commercial decision on the record company's part that ended up working artistically as a happy accident. Which goes to show you that art is bigger than artists and that there is nothing sacred about the artists vision--great art involves a lot of luck and randomness.

  • Fuck. What a great song/video. I'm honestly kind of glad the record company talked them into doing this. Pink Maggit is an incredible song as it is and it definitely doesn't hurt to have an alternate more pop version of it

  • I love deftones, but this always speaks to me as I have lived and breathed music for the past 39 years. When he talks about "I sift through all the cliques", that's me. I turn up up to a pub, and I'm just bumping goths, metal heads, hip hop heads, indie kids, jazz guys, electronic music afficianodes, rastas, skinheads. All based on our shared love of

  • Can't believe it's almost 19 years since this was released. It is just insane!! It feels like it was yesterday. Back in the day, when I could sing all the lyrics of this song nonstop, so fluently in spite that English is not my mother tongue. I was 17 then. Nostalgic.

  • I feel like Generation X and Millennials had the most awesome youth, as they had the most awesome rock bands of all time, like Korn, Nirvana, Deftones and many more, and i feel jealous of that (not in a bad way, is just that i wish i could had experience those bands when they were at their prime). There aren't many bands left that are this awesome and this powerful, and most importantly, that don't transmit that energy on stage. Don't get me wrong, there are new rock bands that are fucking awesome, but bands like Deftones appear once, and i don't believe that an era like that will repeat again, at least musically speaking, and it's such a shame. What's only left is to enjoy them as long as they remain. PD: Sorry if i misspelled something. English is not my main language XD
