    • Yeah, he needed to really mind his situational awareness on that landing. He only had about 15-20 feet on his right side before that lamp post and fuel tank. A big gust of wind from his left right before touchdown could have turned that into a really bad day

The captain of the Boeing 747-400F who performed the go around, from what I saw, is clearly the PF (Pilot Flying) and the first officer is the PM (Pilot Monitoring). However, after the call to perform the go around by ATC, the captain proceeded to go around, as well as retracting the flaps and landing gear. In this situation, these last two tasks should have been performed by the first officer, right? It's just a small detail, but now I'm curious...

      @visarr@visarr2 ай бұрын
    • Wrong times two. 1. The little c captain was completely over the top with his "help". All of the non pilots are so jazzed about how quickly he jumped on the throttles so quickly. Yet while he was jumping the gun doing that he missed the First Officers call for Flaps 20, which is the FIRST thing he's supposed to do on a G/A. The is no rush to jam in the throttles like that, particularly if the First Officer already selected TOGA on the throttle switch. If you watch carefully, the FO is selecting TOGA as the captain is jamming in max (or nearly so) thrust. The Auto Throttles are already commanding a programmed amount of thrust for the GA. Besides, the airplane only requires a half a shove to get it flying. Adding too much thrust in a Go Around is a sure way to screw things up. Since he took so long to call positive rate, the gear speed is possibly an issue as are the Flap speeds. Plus, underslung engines produce a lot of pitch up moment and this can really get you in a tight box, particularly with a low altitude level off. He was too busy on the tower frequency. There is no rush to call the tower. The rule is Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. And there is no reason to shout like he was doing. It's distracting and raises the tension in the cockpit for absolutely no reason. And this was not a sim. I won't even address his hand being all over the yoke for all of it. @@boringpolitician

  • I recently landed at JFK on a flight that used that Canarsie approach. At the time, I didn't know it was "famous", it was just alarming. Never been on a plane that banked so low over such a densely populated area, the camera doesn't do it justice.

  • can some sensor looks miles ahead and prepare the craft for turbulence, shouldn't be too hard, over a safe place like sea or desert, it could even shoot a conical ice structure that rapidly vaporizes

    • Looks like they are on approach, so it is during landing. And nothing to worry about, the wing and engines are all designed to move like that.
