How to Eat Palmyra Palm Fruit - Amazing PALM SUGAR Superfood!

Petchaburi (เพชรบุรี), Thailand - The Tham Rong Community in Petchaburi, central Thailand is home to many palmyra palm trees (also known as sugar palm or toddy palm), which grow in plantations and mainly within the rice paddy fields. It’s an amazing tree, with so many uses, and so important throughout Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia and India. #Thailand #Fruit #palmsugar
In Thailand, “nam dtan,” literally means the water of the palmyra palm, but today that word is used for normal sugar. That’s because traditionally this was the main source of sugar in Thailand - and it still is common - but white table sugar has taken over for convenience and cheap price. But palmyra palm sugar is the real deal, fragrant, mildly sweet, and much less processed and healthy.
Before visiting this palmyra palm tree fruit plantation, I didn’t know all the different uses of this amazing fruit and tree.
Palm fruit cluster
Fresh palm sugar sap
Palmyra mesocarp pulp
Palmyra fruit - seed socket
Germinated seed
Thank you for watching and hope you’re having a fantastic day!

I am from Telangana (India) , in our childhood to get the sprout inside the shell , it would take 10 to 15 minutes for each, toddy palm is a magical tree , we drink its sap , wine , and we eat its seeds , fruits, sprout, stem and even fungus growing inside it (we call it thati buzu) , we use its leaves to make ropes , glases for drinking water and as roof of houses and its stem is used to build houses and as firewood
In Andhra rotti is prepared with this yellow pulp called dabbakaaya rotti.
such natural foods from one tree ..wow
Impressive
This literally how we use it in South Sudan
Palm trees are traditional trees of south India Tamil Nadu . I have palm trees in my farm . We use palm sugar and even palm leaves as plates to serve food. Mark please visit Tamil Nadu in India and help to know our palm trees too 🙏🏻

Lol I don't think he was paying respect to the tree, he was praying before he started climbing so he doesn't fall.
"Panam Pazham" which is Tamil name of Palm fruit. will be extremely sweet.... It's our treasure of Tamil Nadu, India.
Yes very tasty fruit..I like ur comments 👍🏻👍🏻

So many interesting fruits in South Asia
I always buy them when I go to Thailand. Its good with jelly desserts 🍨
@@kellyrios8179 you've been to Thailand. Cool. What cities
Me too.. i was so excited when i was watching him devour the Jellies. Back in India, we grew up enjoying those for every summer. And the fruit, awww.. it has a nutty taste to it. And we used to get the roots (like potato) and steam/roast and eat them too... I guess, the roots bear them for a season, but the tree will continue to live. Ahh! This video brought back some treaty nostalgic feelings... And this guy's reactions are so realistic and so Joyful... simple in words and very expressive in giggles and emotions..
Loved this!! Would love to see more videos highlighting different fruits and veggies in Thailand! Especially how to eat after walking around a market drooling at everything :)
It's South Indians and ( my) favourite childhood fruit for every one we use to play with the shells after eating it ☺️❤️ gud see it in other country
Hi ma'am new friend here,,we don't have that kind of palms here in the Philippines

Thailand is rich in natural resources. The King has really utilized his power to upgrade farming in the outskirt and remote part of Thailand in his early reign after confronting the communist threat.
Hi ma'am new friend here
I love the palm fruit! I actually remember eating that as a child in Thailand.
Love this video as always. Well done, Mark!
Awesome video and learning experience Mark, and congratulations on your new channel, look forward to the next video. Have a great day and tell your family hello from Texas.
Beautiful place and I love when I see Micah he is adorable
Brought back fond memories of growing up in Mumbai. We used get the jelly like fruit which used to be our after school snack. Locally it is called Taad Gole, taad= palm and gole=ball. In South India they would sell it whole with the husk and all and I think they called it nongu. Nongu sherbat is an amazing refreshing drink made from it.
Wow....very nice, I love eating palm fruit and the seeds...it's amazing
I love this video. I learnt so much about this fruit. Thank you. I look forward to tasting it some day. Wow!!!
Currently watching. The scenery is so beautiful. It’s nice to see people aren’t typing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc in the comments. It’s pathetic. Enjoy the commentary.
😂😂😂
Oh
Oh my God I'm laughing my ass off. Mark biting the fruit is hilarious
Growing up in Rumbek, South Sudan where Palmyra palm trees were present was so amazing. We could never get hungry in our village. Multipurpose tree
THIS IS AMAZING PLACE LOOKS RELAXING I LOVE PALM SUGER
Hi Mark happy Friday 👋🏼 I’ve never heard of this fruit before, so interesting to learn about the fruit and the palm trees. Awesome production
Wow one day I’d like to try that fruit!!
Wow what a fantastic video Mark 🖒. Such beautiful scenery as well. I would really like to try that fruit.
Outstanding video - so interesting, educational, entertaining and wonderfully filmed and edited.
Oh, love it, the yellow juice we make fritters, have to seive the juice, add rice flour, sugar, grated coconut, flour, water, thick better, and fry in dollops
Thank you for the cool video! The seed jelly socket of the fruit is common delicacy here in the northern shore of Java in Indonesia. People usually made beverages with the slices of the jelly combined with palm sugar and coconut cream. But I never know that the husk could be consumed immediately like that. It is kind of unusual here. Really amazing discovery there!
Jadi kangen makan siwalan wkwkwkw Gatau jg kalo serabutnya bisa kuning gitu ternyata bisa dimakan
Ashabus Surur makan babi
Love from Bangladesh.
Oh I love this fruit , the juice is amazing!
Thanks Mark, for yet another awesome video experience !
As kids we used to sneak into a boarding where they had like tons of these palm trees! We would leave bruised but happy! The more I watch your videos the more I realise how much the fauna Flora in Tropical Asia is almost the same as in Africa. Always great watching your videos!
According to Mark everything he eat is absolutely delicious. In all his video Mark have not hate anything he ate.

Thank you for another fascinating show!
Hi Mark and Ying and I always wanted to tasted fresh palm sugar🙏❤️
The palm fruit is called " Luk Tarn ", it is tasty but not recommended for a one biter. Because, it is very slippery and you can easily get choked eating it that way. The best way to eat it is to slice the Luk Tarn into thin and small bite size. Love the VDO and please keep it coming Mark.
Absolutely fascinating video. Thanks for posting this.👍😷
Love your respect for nature, people and food, Mark🙏🙏🙏🙏💙🤗
I wanna try the sugar palm sap with ice! Looks so refreshing! Reminds me of sugarcane juice.
It _is_ very refreshing! Much like sugarcane like you mentioned
I love this fruit and so does my mum. We can eat a truck load of these in Vietnam too. ❤️💖
Thank you! This was so cool, and I will have to try it!
Wow what an interesting vlog. Wow 🤩 the drink 😍
Hello Mark, when I go to Thailand, I want to try that delicacy of palmyra fruit, especially that jelly or seed, which they tell me is a delicacy.💖
What an unusual and thoroughly interesting fruit!! I never knew of it before and Mark is an excellent teacher. It also looks like a huge fibrous mango🤗 Great filming and editing Mark👏👏
Mark has come a long way. i wonder will he will be in 10 years.
Looks yummy its see in your face the smile natatakam akong makatikim din ng lahat kung anong meron ang palmyra keep safe always sir
Oh wow the jelly and the seed pods are the most delicious 🤤
Mark, thank you for this great video, did you try the palm wine? it made from the palm flower sap. It is really good, if chilled it taste like Winter harvest wine. The Indians called it "Toddy"
OMG I loved these! Too bad I can enjoy them from canned but still so good, I wonder how amazing it would taste if if we’re fresh like that!
Glad you love it!
Mark Loving this video. Educational information. Looking forward to the next.
Awsome video Mark. It is so SWEET of you...

If there's one bit of Thai I've learned watching Mark's vids is aloy ma khap 😀
The white part (seed) is called SIWALAN in Central Java, Indonesia. It's common to found it in dry season 😊 I really like Siwalan when it fresh 😊🥰
I ate every form of the fruit including the dessert and the drinks fresh and fermented. Reminds me so much of my childhood in Cambodia. Make me want some as I’m watching ❤️
Have had palm seed from a can. Fresh looks good!!!
Hi Mark, we get this fruit in India also, I love it too. I Enjoy watching your videos.
I can’t believe he kept eating it after they told him about the diarrhea. That’s real commitment right there.
Yeah he walked away from them too so they don't see him eating it LOL
I think his stomach is protected
Maybe mark need that😂

Palm drink looks refreshing.
in Indonesia, we call the fruit Lontar Fruit. we use the sap to make aren (palm) sugar, and traditionally some tribes ferment the sap to make tuak (alcohol drink). we also drink the sap (sugar juice?) and some also call it nira water. when in season, street vendor sells the fruit in Jakarta.
Serabutnya gak pernah saya lihat dimakan oleh orang Indonesia.
In Indonesia the name is siwalan, we eat it when the siwalan young, It tastes like jelly, soft, and sweet, so it's even better
Its look like lontar fruits
Same in India also....Mostly south indians know these tree.....And in summer time we can lot of trees with this, Andhrapradesh, Tamilnadu, Telangana, etc...

Man, that's fascinating, hope you do more vids line this where the focus is more on an ingredient:)
ว้าว! ตั้งแต่เกิดมาเพิ่งจะได้เห็นสวนตาล เป็นครั้งแรก เลยค่ะ ขอบคุณมากเลย
As I'm from Batticaloa, eastern part of Srilanka, we had this palm tree tons of them in our backyard. Normally the whole palm fruit you put it in a open fire and roasted for at least 30 minutes. It's become more sweeter. The seed you can put it back in the land and make more trees. But if you leave it for a month in the land and take it, you can boil it and eat with coconut chunks. You can even sun dried the roots too, to eat in the future. This trees have use of every parts. Top to bottom. PS: You can make toddy too 😉
Are sweets ig in Sri lanka
Only Mark Weins has the ability to make me want to try what “days old pumpkin pie” tastes like. He is amazing!
Does he actually eat that.
I dont have time to watch right now, saving for later! Love you Mark!! Hope all is well 🙂
Hello Mark, from Chicago, always be safe.... nice video, thank you....🤗
Hi Mark. Love the video, reminds me of how much i love my country. Here in the Seychelles we have one of our palm trees that has similar texture to this one but way more beautiful as it inspires a womans beauty. The local name is 'Coco de Mer' and scientificaly called Lodoicea. Unfortunately it is so protected that u may be imprisoned if caught with one without permit. Please do look it up and hope it inspires you to come visit us soon. Blessed weekend to you and family.
Marc Lesperance okok thanks bye
Great episode. I’m wondering though who was so hungry they decided to chop at a seed with a machete to get to the center? Lol. Much love Mark, Ying and Micah ❤️
Thanks Mark for this feature I learned a lot.
