The Making Of Childish Gambino's "Redbone" With Ludwig Göransson | Deconstructed

2017 ж. 9 Мам.
9 085 577 Рет қаралды

Childish Gambino’s “Redbone,” the second single off of his 'Awaken, My Love!' album, centers on the narrative of infidelity and paranoia. The track got a prominent placement in the opening moments of Jordan Peele’s record-breaking movie Get Out, too, leading to Platinum certification. Its instrumentation is a collaboration between Donald and Swedish composer and producer Ludwig Göransson; the two have frequently worked together since the 2010 'Culdesac' mixtape. He went to the studio not knowing what the two had in store that day.

    • That's what separates the good from great imo. Being able to recreate what you made. Knowing exactly what instruments you used and what chords you played. A lot of producers nowadays just find a random VST patch and use basic music theory and could never go back and recreate it from scratch. Nothing against that. If it sounds good it sounds good. But being able to play something live makes it much better imo.

    @all-caps3927@all-caps3927 Жыл бұрын
    • Yeah knowing the right part of a song and having an idea of where to put it is a lot harder than people give credit for like sampling a 5 second portion from a recent pop song is fairly easy but producer takes a 5 second part from a song 50 years ago not even in the top 100 and people act like its theft

    • If you check out the round table that Hans Zimmer and Ludwig did, you would know why Hans sent Tenet his way. To summarize for people not willing to check the video: Hans basically raves about the Black Panther soundtrack and gives Ludwig the kind of props you can basically only dream of a legend saying to you. It would be the equivalent of having Ian McKellen or Patrick Stewart telling you that your acting moved them to tears. Ludwig went to LA as a 22 year old Swede with no connections and hustled his way to the top through sheer talent. The dude is in his early thirties and just look at his portfolio already: Creed, Black Panther, Tenet, Mandalorian, the Childish Gambino collabs (including This is America) - I mean the guy even scored the new fanfare for the Warner Bros logo for Christ sake.... He’s gonna have MANY years of success ahead of him.

  • I thought this song was made with samples from the 70s. Ludwig nailed the style so completely that you could put this song on a compilation of 70's hits and nobody would pick it out as a modern song.

    • You hear it. Even if you don't know you're hearing it it's there. With practice you can learn to hear those details more clearly by focusing on the "Back" of the sound. If they stripped all the details out of the song it would sound much less organic.

    • It is not a sample. Basically it sounds very similar to a Bootsy Collins song which I believe is Id Rather Be With You. Ludwig and Donald still very much crafted, played, and made the song themselves. Strong similarities is all.

    • Jiraiya The Gallant clearly you didn’t watch the video clip I posted above. I’d also like to repeat that IN the video clip.... George Clinton...the PRODUCER of “I’d Rather Be With You” said on HOT 97 to Ebro Darden that he contacted Donald Glover’s people and they said they would not take a DOLLAR FROM “REDBONE” (which is 3x’s platinum) until they pay George Clinton (producer) and Bootsy (writer) because it’s George Clinton and Bootsy’s song!

      @Dupree90@Dupree906 жыл бұрын
    • I did see the clip however what I'm saying is that Redbone does not contain a sample. Redbone was written, made, and played by Ludwig and Donald. Somehow during the writing process, one of them drew a little too much inspiration from Bootsy which led to the crediting of Bootsy and George due to sounding alike.

      @anthonyrios2300@anthonyrios23006 жыл бұрын
    • Jiraiya The Gallant no sir, respectfully you don’t follow....George Clinton and Bootsy wouldn’t have the opportunity to collect money from that record if IT WASN’T THE SAME RECORD!!! You mean to tell me if some said you took their record...but didn’t really...you would allow the other person to get paid for your song before you???? Wtf?!?’ No one can claim my shit if I wrote it!!!
