In 2020 this video is still helpful. Thanks Steve!
Steve just a little education. There is a small tool kit that comes with the Jeep. It has the ratchet and proper size torx bit in it. The last thing is when you are getting ready to remove the top after all the screws are out close the back tailgate door, leave the window open and take the top straight back then there is no risk of dropping the top trying to balance it while you walk around the spare tire. One last thing, don't pull the washer hose off, pinch the coupling and pull it apart. The coupling also shuts the flow of washer fluid off. If you just pull the hose connection loose you can drain washer fluid into the back of your jeep.
I don't own jeep but I was just curious how they remove all that lol
same here
This was more comprehensible and informative than the official Jeep video. Thanks!
Just purchased my first jeep... Thank you Steve for the DIY video...
I love youtube....and I am so thankful for vehicle knowledgable people!
Thanks for this simple video! I needed it. I rented a Jeep Wrangler for a weekend get away in Pensacola this weekend and the top is coming off!
Just bought my first Jeep yesterday. This video helped!
Prob one of the main reasons why I'm dying to get a jeep.
I've had 6 jeeps over 47 years, whatcha waiting on lol
Ethan I'm on my second one the new one is a 4dr Rubicon get one you'll love it.
stephen fahr the money to fork out to buy one! Haha
Devildog 68 hopefully in the next year or two! Can’t wait!
Kinda crazy how some old wranglers hold value ... All still debatable for me. 15k asking price for a used one seems too much for me.
Dont forget to also put the cap on the washer fluid hose. If not you might hit the washer switch and wash out the back of the Jeep......
rock crawler how do you put the cap on or where is the cap?
npgSymboL mine was attached to the hose close to the end. Just a glorified plug is all it was.
picking up my 2016 Wrangler from the dealership on Tuesday. This is getting me pumped, thanks for the vid!
Steffen R. Cool story bro
Steffen R. How’s it treating ya
Thanks a lot for posting this how-to video. Just bought my new Sahara here in Los Angeles and I'm ready to play!
Thank you very much for the walkthrough in getting this done!
I recommend removing the two screws off first before the latches. Puts pressure on screws and makes them a little more difficult to unscrew.
This is why I love my soft top. I can stop under a bridge, or gas station, and easily put the top back up if it starts raining! :)
whoohooo! thank you so much for this! I just did it all by myself, well the freedom panel part! Going to have a friend help me take off the rest later on! thank you so much by far easiest tutorial i've seen!
Leased a 2018 , not me but someone did make a unit that allows you to take it off by yourself
This guy makes it so easy
Thanks for the video I was curious how the top comes off. Interested in 2019 wrangler unlimited sport.
Great video. Appreciate the straight forward instructions and decent camera angles.
Thanks a lot, getting my first jeep ever tomorrow and this video came in really handy.
Thank you . I need to get that Cotten picking soft top out of my 2916 Rubicon unlimited , and I'm pretty sure the hard top must be removed in order to take it out . Thanks Chrysler
Whenever I see a person with tattoos and I see them doing something, im like oh I bet they know what they're doing
That was perfectly done! I now feel I can do it! Thanks!
thanks Joel that was just the help I needed!!!
Great video. Very helpful. Thanks.
Thank you. That was very helpful.
thank you for this video! i appreciate it
Awesome video!!!! I'm interested in getting JEEP Wrangler great info to have.
Great video guys!! Very helpful.
Very helpful. Thank you!
Very informative Video thank you 👍
Thank you very much! This is really helpful!
Thank You Steve, this video helped! Time to hit the beach!!
Worked like a charm!! Great video!
Best video I’ve seen about this good job man
Very informative thanks!
very well done. thanks for sharing.
One of the better demos I have seen, nice job.
My moon roof instructions consist of "push button to open" and "push button to close"
Mike Rankin this isn't a moon roof it's the actual roof to expose the rollbars.
Hello, thank you for this demo, from France (Cap-Ferret)
Good video and very easy to understand.
This was useful thank you
T40 bit. The T30 is for the soft top. Thanks for the vid.
Awesome and straight to the point
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome:D can't wait to get my new Jeep Wrangler
Thank you Joel 🥰😍😉
Close the tailgate with the back window up ,then you don't need to walk around it or lift it over the spare tire
Great video, also thanks to michele A! good advice
Thanks man.
Yall made that look easy 👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
Picking up my 2021 4 door tomorrow woooohoooo first item of business top off
Juan Meneses how did you get it out? I'm having the same problem with mine
Thank you very much bro
Great video - thanks
How hard is it with 2 people that aren't super buff is it still do able or need extra hands/ hoist?
Thanks for the video, helped me out a lot. In my opinion it was easier to close the back door and lift the roof right out instead of going around the tire.
Thanks again
thx steve
The knobs on my freedom top get stuck. Do you know of any tools that may be available to help loosen them?
So is that back part extremely heavy or
I definitely need a hoist system!
nice video thanks
The two top bolts are only on a Jeep Wrangler JK U and not on a two door JK. Great video use it and the video on door removal as well
Rains 2 minutes later 😂
Same for Jeep Wrangler sport 2014?
Great video! Thanks for sharing
Is this for all jeeps or only 2016
Does this also work for a 2015 sahara
One of my twists have become wedged in too tight (no fault of my own) I can’t unscrew it now, how would you recommend to get it taken out?
So where do you store the hardtop if you're a student living in an apartment with no garage?
Great video BUT it would be super helpful to note that to remove the wire connected harness next to the wiper tube connector that one not only has to push the red tab over, but must press in on the angled black tabs on the lower part below the red tab that would be closest to the front of the vehicle
I was having such a hard time with this step. Thank you so much
+Eleanor St James I keep needle nose pliers in the jeep now to help disconnect the electric connection. Makes disconnecting that adapter super easy!
Torx T40 size?
Thanks ALOT !!! 🤙
I was able to do every step but got stuck at the wiper fluid step. Is there a trick or something?
Can you leave the front ones on and the back ones off ?
Do you know you can shut the back hatch so you don't have to go around the tire. You just leave the glass up and then shut it. Then the top goes over it perfect.
Love the video!!!!! Approximately how heavy is are the tops? Front? Back? Thanks!!!!!
I believe the front freedom panels are just under 25lbs. But I do not know the weight of the main top. My Jeep (2017) says to have 4 people take off.
Heavy as shit my guy, minimum 2 strong guys
i want this car rly bad but like in a gunmetal gray color but honestly id probably only take off the front part. like i know people probably get this car so that they can take off the entire top but to me it seems like a lot of work and i just really like the shape of the car
On wiper harness removal, make sure you press down the black tab at the bottom of the harness after sliding over the red tab. Do not force it down. Push in the black tab, then pull down.
That's what stopped me from removing the doors & the roof .. thanks
So once everything is unbolted for the rear portion, you can't just.....close the tailgate?
for wat years can you do this
...AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where would I put the car top? I don’t have garage 😫
What year is this jeep?
ha; and those electrical connectors just slid off?
Great video! One question.. what size torx bit did you say you needed? T30? T40? Thanks!
Really? You're asking a question that you can answer yourself by watching that part of the video again....jeeez
+Tara Bite I didn't understand him clearly. Which is why I asked.
+Cole Orton our dealer provided these tools to help remove your hard top and doors. Hopefully this helps someone else who had the same question I had. www.amazon.com/Jeep-Wrangler-Hard-Door-Removal/dp/B00QAMKNYK%3FSubscriptionId%3DAKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q%26tag%3Dduckduckgo-iphone-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB00QAMKNYK
+Cole Orton Not sure how much clearer he could be, he said T30.
@@tarabite6280 but the jeep website says t40 , which will actually work?
Thanks for the video. Is there any reason you can't leave the tailgate closed, lift the top up and walk it back ? Am I missing something here ?
You can leave the tailgate closed. Just keep the back window up.. and the other windows, down.
After removing the entire top does the Jeep still seal up good when you put it back on.
I had a 2015 jk for 5 years and would remove top every other week without any leak. Just bought a JL two months ago. No leaks yet.
Just got 1 a few days ago, except in brown pearl 😊😇🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I'm finna get my very first car, which is the jeep wrangler and this video is very awesome
Can't you just close the rear tailgate to remove the hardtop to avoid the going around the spare problem?
Same thing I was thinking
Yes you can. You just open the glass first and then shut the gate. You don't have to risk dropping your whole top.
Great..however, I would just buy a better quality 18 V driver to unscrew the bolts easily over the summer time as I would probably "do it or undo it" quite a few time...would save some fatigue...
So, if you are on the trail and you want to take the roof off, where do you put it?
“GRSW”
Good video. But, good lord, I'll stick with the soft top!!!
how much does the top weigh?
I don’t have one but was wondering how you do it How’s the reliability on these ? I really want one
jimmy18123ify it’s fiat/Chrysler which is known for their very poor reliability but I own a 2016 wrangler and I believe if you take care of it you should be good 👍
Dang 1 year ago comment now I have my Jeep 🤤
Still helpful , took mine off after 8yrs lol
may i ask how tall you are??? i'm a 5,6 guy, i guess i'm short
Were not short bro
