  • This guy is ridiculous, how he's able to provide greater value than explaining it himself (like all the other youtubers) but from going through hours of film and showcasing the entire range of possibilities and mechanics across multiple in-game situations rather than touching upon them verbally (or vaguely). Great channel I was taken by surprise how useful it is.

  • If you're able to shoot well, that will additionally create problems for the D. Being able to shoot will force them to decrease the space between you and them, thus giving you the opportunity to drive past them. If you shoot poorly, the D could drop back and simply take their chances with you making the bucket or not. If the D does manage to position themselves in front of you on a drive, don't be so intent on powering through as you might draw a charge. Instead, try hopping back into a shot or use that space to see which foot they put forward. If you can do a double hop back, even better. There's more space thus more ground they'll have to cover, and if you can shoot, they'll look to do that in a hurry. In turn, you now have the opportunity to pick a side on which to drive.

  • Basically as a hooper you need to master which foot to attack... I myself is a Top foot attacker, who pushes through contact... Eventually mastering one specific style will lead to better reading of your opponents when you master one you can switch it up and use the other aswell

  • Once you attack the top foot and get past them. Cut in front of them and force them behind you. Probably the easier way to get a bucket if you have a lane. You don’t even need to be faster than the guy. Just get your step in front of the defender and you’re home free.

  • This is a lovely breakdown. You're right when it comes to trainers saying to always attack the top foot but that doesn't always work against good defenders. Good defenders will bump and be strong through a top foot attack so its important to be able to read the defenders feet and try shift them out of position so their stance is either too open for a back foot attack or their top foot is between your feet or shoulders for a top foot attack.

  • Great vid. It all comes down to getting momentum direction and your hips past their hips, going towards the basket. So many defenders overload the front foot in a straight up... but you have to judge their momentum, arm length, and your position on the floor to figure out the best angle to the hoop. Especially in a half court game.

  • Great breakdown. It's helpful to think about the pros and cons of which foot to attack. But for a good driver the focus is more on which side has an open lane because they can beat a defender either way. If they don't have the sheer explosiveness to do it they can get there with a combination of ball-handling, hesitation, and timing the defender's reactions.

  • These videos are so true. This is true fundamentals. Combine these with the other things that offensive players are allowed to get away with in the NBA and more and more in college, and your defender is facing an uphill battle. What I am talking about is rampant traveling, palming the ball, using your off hand to forearm the defender and fend him off. And don't even get me started on the eurostep. Is it any wonder that with the talent some players have that they are basically unstoppable? That is why we don't see the defense in the NBA from past years.
