Diving Deadly Underwater Cavern with Full Face Scuba Mask Communication System
Sadly 2 divers lost their lives in this underwater cavern last week. We are cavern scuba diving Buford Sink in Florida. On this scuba dive we are using the Ocean Technology Systems OTS Buddy Phone underwater communication system and the OTS Spectrum Full Face Mask. The OTS Buddy Phone allows me to talk to my dive partner and to talk to the camera, the OTS Buddy Phone fits into several different Full face dive masks including the OTS spectrum that I am using today. Later I hope to do a OTS spectrum review and an OTS buddy phone review.
This underwater cavern Buford sink is located in the Chassahowitzka forest in Florida. It is one of many Florida Springs that you can scuba dive. Buford sink is a beautiful site for underwater cave exploring and cavern exploring but you must be properly trained. 2 people died at Buford sink last week, we don't know why but it reminds us to always stay within our training limits. I AM NOT A CAVE DIVER AND I DO NOT GO INTO UNDERWATER CAVES. I stay in the "Cavern Zone" this means I can always see the light from the sun and an easy exit in an emergency.

Buford is one of our favorite dive sites. Sad situation that occurred a few weeks ago but as divers it's part of the known risk we take. We like this site to practice cave skills and sidemount skills cause it a less complex system then others. Staying within your limited and having redundancy it critical in environment likes this.

Wow thanks! Yes you can equalize just like a regular mask, the nose part on the spectrum is soft rubber

What’s up Joe. I agree with your comments regarding the amount of vandalism, even under the water where it is a privilege to dive. So many lowlife people out there who by their actions, have little or no respect for the environment. So sad. I’m finally in Florida. Contact me if you so choose to regarding diving and making videos. I’m sure you remember me from prior conversations. I purchased all new gear plus some random cameras and accessories. Looking forward to some conservation stuff as well. I have a lot of questions, even though I’m a Dive Master. Been out of the game for quite a while. Could use a solid buddy to dive with so as to comfortable in different types of water and conditions.
Very cool dive site and gear, the lighting there is incredible. How are you recording the audio, is the GoPro just picking that up because of the proximity? Also on that setup, if you were to have a regulator failure, does the failed one just pop out and you put your backup in its place or do you have to take the face mask off?
Good question. If the primary reg failed you would remove the whole mask and put your octo with traditional mouthpiece into your mouth, then put on a spare mask that would keep in your bc. At least that's what I would do, I am not certified or formally trained with this mask yet. To get the audio on the video, I took one of the receivers that would go on my buddy's mask and I zip tied it to the back of the gopro.

Yes, if your primary fails, you pull the mask off, breath off your octo or alt air source and you bring a second mask to replace it with. The regulator is held in with a zip tie and there is no way to 'replace' it underwater.

I am looking at buying this Mask. I spoke with Joe from OTS and I think he sold me on this setup. Can you tell me how in your edit you put the audio with the GOPRO? Is this the live audio recorded by the GOPRO from underwater or did you add it in post production? Thanks for your time!

Hi! I wish you could do that. I hate having my hand occupied by holding the button. but i guess this is more made for just the occasional communication and not a full youtube narration
