Steve Sutcliffe takes to the track in the latest boundary-pushing race car from the Renaultsport stable, the crazy RS.01.
At the moment the RS.01 is just an in-house folly for Renaultsport, a one-make racing car that just so happens to be utterly sensational to drive. But in time it may yet redefine what’s possible from a GT3 racing car. And whatever its future, the RS.01 looks, and indeed is, one of the most exciting cars we’ve driven all year.

It seems that everything Renault makes, all the way from base model economy cars all the way to this RS.01, tend to be wonderfully styled. I absolutely love the look of Renault cars.

@@dolanthefacc6814 Renault own Nissan, they have no fees using the Nissan GTR motor. I'ts a racing car they just needed one high perfornance engine without paying R&D for this model + paying licenses and production cost.

hi evo magazine fans, i'm looking for a video i saw a month ago on youtube with RICHARD MEADEN, top driver EVO mag, driving the RENAULT SPORT R.S. 01 and saying going out of the car "i'm ruined for any other car now" i loved this video. richard meaden was invited exclusively by renault sport as first journalist to test it. i can't seemed to be able to find the video again. any help ?

Next time a driver says the phrase "be a bit quiet", the announcer should take his advice and follow suit. At that moment all I wanted to hear was the noise from the engines, the precise sound that was muted to allow mr. impressive stats to prattle on turning in enjoyable drive into a television commercial. There I was in the moment of his descriptive first drive which was filled with plenty of stats on its own. All that's really left is to extend the enjoyment for the viewer by watching and listening to the car move around the track at least for a couple of laps before you kill the mood. did you do it backwards on purpose?

+Ola Justin let me put some facts into this because obviously you don't know much about Renault, Renault owns a majority in Nissan, the GTR R35 engine it's originally a V6 from Renault, as Nissan had no V6 in it skylines but straight 6, the engine was tuned with the addition of twin turbo and you've got the current GTR Engine

+fang siang That car is a racing prototype and Renault could have put a f1 engine in that. I was not talking about a car for mass production. F1 engines are not that much reliable. They are made to rev higher about 18000rpm.
pradhuman rehal like u said , F1 engines are not tat much reliable , so it wont be made into this prototype which will be compete in GT 1 - 3 racing . it is a different category of racing , they do not need too much powerful engine and rev too high where their racing need a reliable engine and stable output to race till the end. Do u know how much of investment they gonna need just to build an engine as powerful as F1? They dont have to , thats the different. im not saying they cant put a F1 engine , yes , they can...but that not necessary for the moment, just optional.
+fang siang But Renault already makes F1 engines. RedBull F1 racing team uses them. R&D is not an issue here. And as I said its just a prototype. It will never be mass produced.

The addition of the GT-R's frankly overweight engine (650lbs, maybe a bit less with most accessories removed and others swapped.) is a bit of a let down for me. Renault could have done just as good with less. But as the engine was already paid for and Renault is not flush with cash. So, I won't complain too much.
ABS so you don't have to regulate the pressure on the brake pedal yourself, traction control so that the driver does not have to regulate the throttle, fully auto gearbox to not worry about gearchanges at all. This is total bollocks. Or you can call it modern race car driving.
