  • In all of my years, and believe me there have been many, I always thought only oysters have pearls. I'm amazed at the colors of not only the beautiful shells but the colors of the pearls and those stones as well. Hopefully you will make use of the meat from the shells and are not just harvesting them for the pearls because that would be a real tragedy. Please be mindful that these are living things and need to be treated with respect. If you are also using them as food and feeding yourself or your family it's one thing but harvesting them for profit and wasting the rest, then that is another thing entirely. If that is the case please leave them where you found them. You live in an amazing place. Never take it for granted and please always respect it.

  • Interesting idea, but I'm pretty sure the formation of a shiny nacerous pearl actually requires a species to have nacre in it's shell.

    • The pearl is made by bacteria (I think) going inside and the animal creates layers of a slime coat type of thing that hardens over time, creating the pearl
