It wouldn’t be that difficult to fix the Rubik’s Brand, smaller core, smoother edges, and the corners in the pieces could be rounded for more corner cutting
Rubiks already made a rounder cube
They did. They have it at Walmart
Exactly.. After some....FAILS.🤪 It turned out to be a pretty easy process.. I even swapped out the springs for maglev..Its pretty amazing ... Working on the final magnetic version now.. Its going to be awesome... Im so exited...😜😎

J Perm once brought up that Rubik's brand doesn't really corner twist or pop. For non-speedcubers who wouldn't know how to fix those issues in a way that keeps the cube solvable, it's more important cube design makes these things impossible than it is important for cubes to be fast.

The original Rubik's cube is great for beginners. It encourages slower turns and the sturdy build makes it hard to break in cases of severe frustration.
Why is slower turning something that should be encouraged for beginners ? They are going to be turning slow to begin with cause they don't know what they are doing and if you're breaking your Rubik's cube out of frustration then you shouldn't be touching a Rubik's cube. The original Rubik's cube has no redeeming factors other than being the origins of the Rubik's cube

The thing about the Rubik's cube is that it was designed as a puzzle, not a competition. Speed cubes are built for the competition.
Which is what he said
Yes, BUT you can use a speed cube like a puzzle + it turns better + a $7 is smoother than the $18 RUBIK's cube. So at this point, Rubik's should up their game
Well, I use my speedcube casually as a puzzle. I'm not really speedcubing at all. It just pleasant to touch, have a nice weight, easy to turn, never catches.
e
the thing is a gan 356 R is the same price
The OG Rubik's Cube was set up to be basically "temperamental child" proof. Like you demonstrated, you can throw it at a wall and the wall will lose that battle - but it's also super unlikely to pop or corner-twist during normal use. Non-cubers often consider a cube "broken" if it's popped or corner-twisted - I remember having to rescue an expensive speedcube from the trash can because my cousin corner-twisted it. That comes at the expense of having almost no corner-cutting ability and having a lot of friction making it hard to turn., but then again it's not meant to be their Speedcube (the Rubik's brand speedcube is still kinda terrible though, but for different reasons).
Not that resistant. Mine once fell and broke. Couldn't be fixed, the center broke from its core. I glued it with superglue, but once in a while it breaks again. It's just a collection item now, though.

I think its also built the way it is to prevent the cube from popping and corner twists. You have to keep in mind its the OG cube meant for people that don't understand the puzzle and if anything like that were to happen then the puzzle is therefore "broken" to them
True when I first bought the rubiks cube I didn’t know anything abt how to solve it and when I learned it it was pretty good for me as My time for each solve was only 1 minute but as I progressed untill sub 30 I started ti feel how shitty the cube was for speedcubing

I got offered a Rubik's cube for Christmas 2008. Well back then the shapes of the pieces were even simpler than that. Very angular pieces, no curves at all. You could not tighten or loosen it cause the center caps were locked, and it was actually stickered, not tiled. But I'm pretty sure that somehow it was turning better than the one in this video. I was actually able to do fingertricks and all :D
@Just a smol midget Not in '08 lmao
I have 2 from 2005
I have a Rubik's cube that's almost 20 years old. I got into cubing recently and bought a MeiLong as soon as I got some disposable pennies. I always assumed that it turns this horrible at least in part because of its age. But seeing how your brand new cube turns exactly like mine now I wish I could get my hands on a new one just to see if there is any difference.
I Also have a meilong, MoYu Meiloing 3c
It also turns terribly because there's no lube.
My Rubik's cube is like.. Idek how old. Probably 30 or 40 years old. Some of the tiles are a bit chipped due to how old it is, and i also thought it's hard to turn because of old age. Now i appreciate my cube even more, knowing that it's so old and that it's still the same way it's supposed to be after all these years.
i have a rs3m2020, which is the most common speedcube i think.
The Rubik's brand actually made a magnetic speed cube and its actually good ! I tried it myself. Its called the Rubik's speed. Would really look forward to you making a video about it!
Yes they did make a new speedcube that isn't nearly as bad. However, until recently, the only Rubik's speedcube was a disgrace to the term speedcube.

I got an original Rubik's cube a couple years ago for Christmas. It was the first one I ever owned, and only a few months ago did I solve it. Now I own a 2×2, a new 3×3, a 4×4, a pyraminx, a megaminx, and a Rubik's phantom. The mega minx is the only one I can't solve. But I would never have gotten interested in them if I had not played around with the original.
I have a new version of the rubik's brand, and it's actually really decent! I tensioned and lubed it, by taking off the center tiles, and it's pretty decent. I'd magnetize it and it would be decent to be my backup main.

Watching this after having brought my second official Rubiks cube. I got my first one in 2012 and I was hoping to get a good cube that felt smooth to turn but was disappointed at its bad (what I learned later was called) corner cutting. For years after that I saw Rubiks cubes for sale with "new design" printed on the package and wanted to try it but was like is it worth it when I have better cubes. But as I counted my cubes this morning, getting to 29 (because I forgot 1), I thought maybe I should make my 30th cube be an official Rubiks again. (It can still be my 30th cube if I just pretend instead of forgetting 1 I intentionaly didn't count the one that is a pyramid shape). I must say my new Rubiks one has better corner cutting than the one you show here looks to have. The black edges of the cubes are actually rounded on the inside on it. Still not as smooth thos as my 奇艺 (Qí yì) or MoYu
Making the rubik's brand cube good might make more people get into actually speedcubing though

hey cubehead, Are you going too the competition in Aalst at 19 november?
I got my official Rubik's for about $3.50 on Amazon years ago, and I've loved having it! After some youtube videos I finally memorized how to solve it! I keep it on my nightstand and solve it several times a week just so I don't forget lol. I'm not fast...my fastest time was 1 minute 14 seconds, but I'm just happy to be able to solve it at all. My dad came for a visit last summer from out of state and I told him to scramble it up for me. He said something along the lines of 'okay, but you're just going to try but not be able to solve it and feel like a fool'...and I'm all like, 'oh no...I've got this.'. And yeah. I had it! lol, I had no problems solving it for him and he was SO impressed and proud of me! He passed away of a heart attack several days later after he had traveled back home...and now I cherish that memory with him.

I recently got myself the "impossible cube" that you showed at the end there. Regular Rubik's brand and it both popped and had stickers fall off right out of the box. I believe they either don't give a shit because they're still the largest or they're incompetent.

3:55 Anyone else getting flashback form the strongest timer video
A year later after this video was made and I just noticed that Rubik does make a "speed magnetic" cube now for $25. Also the Phantom and the impossible which I just bought. I bought one back in 2007 ish an compared to the newer style (even the regular cube) mine is the older tighter squarer style with the stickers. The impossible and Phantom both have a looser fit and much easier to do quickly.
Uhh...I'm kinda confused why you need magnets because when the magnets are on full gear, it...budges...A LOT! (For example, when I turn, the magnets notice their force then... BOOM, the next turn, it's trying to stay their force together which makes me struggle to turn)
You just need to find the perfect combination for your setup. If it's too weak, turn the magnet settings a little bit strong
