Milking Cows On A Small Family Farm In The Summer

2023 ж. 27 Шіл.

Even in the heat of the summer, cows still need to be milked. On our small family farm, we put the emphasis on family. Every family member on the farm helps milk our small herd of 33 dairy cows. From milking to graining, feeding bottles to silage, the whole family pulls together to get chores done. Come with us and see how chores go in the summertime heat.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.

  • Nothing better than seeing farm kids helping and having their own animals on the farm. My parents gave me a registered Holstein heifer calf when i was eleven years old. That heifer later became a Gold Metal Dam. Along the way she and her offspring totally inspired me to want to be a dairy farmer.

  • Best I can tell, Justin is going to be the next generation farmer. The way he took the time to clean out his cows watering bowl tells the story, he has an eye for the details. Used to do the same myself over 50 years ago, when helping at my neighbors farm. Clean water, good feed, cows will take care of you. You all have a great family, thanks for sharing these videos.

  • i must say it is such a pleasure to see how the kids pitch in with chores. it takes me back to the 50's growing up on an 80-acre small dairy farm. these videos are heads and tails far superior to those farm videos that show 1,000's of cows and 1,000,000 dollar implements. you should be proud.

  • Papa here from Missouri, the corn silage you were feeding, does it have bits and pieces of cracked corn in it? In the late '40s & early '50s we would travel to one of my dad's uncle's farms to pick blackberries,& make ice cream. Mom and Aunt Alice would make breakfast with smoked country ham, milk gravy, scratch milk biscuits, fresh eggs, molasses, churned butter, fresh milk, and coffee. Oh, it was so good, then for supper more ham, fried squirrel, biscuits, molasses, mashed potatoes, vegetables from the garden, gravy, churned butter, and for dessert homemade ice cream and blackberry cobbler! Yummy😀 I bet your dinner table is just as amazing! 😊

I have seen your children following you and Jen around the farm looking up to each of you as their protector and provider and you could see their love for each of you in their eyes and it can still be seen today. Things have changed over the years, your children are no longer following you, they are right there beside you working with you because they have found a new way to express their love for each of you. You must be so proud of them. What a fine example you and your children are setting for others. God speed to all! Hope Jen is on the mend soon!

As a teenage boy in the 70,s we worked 7 days a week on the layer chicken farm and hog farm. It was tiresome work, but I wouldn't trade those memories for any amount of money. Back then all the boys and many girls were in the FFA, now our crazy school system down here doesn't even have FFA or home economics 😢. You're doing it right and those children love it. Good job. Keep the videos coming. 🙏 For 🇺🇸

  • My Aunt's Jersey herd was about that size(milking 35), she had some real champion cows that rivaled Holsteins in production I guess. A few the udders were so big and heavy she had, for lack of better words, bras for them that strapped over the hips to hold up the milk bag and keep the teats from getting stepped on. Glad you got some rain

    • Components are getting to be more important than volume. But, even our Holsteins are bred for higher components, too. Jen's old Jersey will milk up to 80 pounds a day at peak lactation, so even the Jerseys put pounds in the tank.
