MORE MAGIC NUMBERS FOR ELECTRICIANS - 35 AND 44 - HOW TO USE SHORTCUTS TO FIND ZS - AND MUCH MORE

Several years ago we made a short video called “35 THE MAGIC NUMBER” and it’s now time to improve on that and also to add a second magic number.
These numbers will help you to calculate Voltage Drop and Loop Impedance or Zs without the need to refer to tables and are quick and accurate.
There are always frequent questions on this, so it obviously matters to many of us.
Questions like … I’ve heard that 35 is a magic number, magic for what?
Or very recently … I’ve been told that the number 35 can be used to find Zs, how does that work?
Then we had … Can we have more detail about how the Zs numbers are actually worked out
And 44 is also a magic number that I, personally, use quite frequently.
The video will explain where the numbers come from, how we actually calculate Zs for example so that you better understand the short-cut. So you can appreciate why the magic numbers work as they do.
This is video number 217 and to view all our videos type in LearnElectrics all one word into the KZhead search bar.
Visit our KZhead channel where we have many more videos on a wide range of electrical topics.

  • Excellent presentation again Dave. I don’t know if you have any more of these “magic number” videos in the pipeline, but there are more magic numbers for instance, for 80% Zs values for BS60898 MCB’s (type B=35)(type C=17)(typeD=8.75) For80% Zs values for BS3871 MCB’s (type1=43.7)(type2=25)(type3=17.5)(type4=3.5) Great work Dave👏👍👍

  • Outstandingly helpful!! I'm dyslexic so don't learn very well from books or some lecturers. You explain things very well indeed!! John Ward was my Go-to channel for electrical theory - but I think you now are! I did a formal 3 year apprentiship 20 years ago but have got a bit rusty on some theory since!

  • Hello Dave,, many thanks for all the knowledge you are giving us, I'm thinking of buying this book,, IET On-Site Guide BS7671:2018+A2:2022 by The Institution of Engineering - Book,,, will benefit from taking into consideration that i work in the middle-east, or you recommend other book ?? Many thanks in advance.

    • In the UK it is an essential purchase. All my videos use this book as a reference source. Not sure how closely it relates to the Middle East, but when I worked in France I used the UK book as a reference and my work was always accepted. A few differences that I had to work around. Good luck my friend. Dave.
