We picked up this Willys Panel Wagon from a friend's back yard where it sat for at least 30 years. We'll break things loose and get it putzing around.

  • Nice to see young generation interested in old.machinses. i recommend cleaning out the carb. All that stuff in float bowl will clog jets. Good job!

  • Hey guys, wonderful seeing a bunch of young'uns tearing in to my favorite ride. Not to criticize any, but it's not a panel wagon, it's a Willy's Utility Wagon. First, it has glass in the sides, and 2nd, it's 4X4. If it was 2WD it would be simply a station wagon. Also, despite what the title says, double check a Willy's VIN registry and see if you can find a build date. Alot of these wagons would sit on a sales lot in to a new year and get THAT year on the title. Seeing a small block Ford was no surprise either. Usually it'd be that or a Chevy. My '60 had a 327 out of a '68 Camero. If the gearing had been different I swear it would have out run my '69 Corvette!! Some 35 yrs later, I have a more finished '59 Utilities Wagon. I noticed some question about parting out or not. For all your trouble, I'd say it's got more value as a running, driving wagon. Rust & all! And no self respecting Wagon that survived the '70's with its Ooga horn ought to suffer such an ignoble fate. All these years later, it isn't the Vette I missed! It was my 'ol buddy the Willys. Value? Running... maybe $5K and up. The more you fix it up, the better it's value. It's shocking, actually how things have gone up, what used to be fairly pedestrian and seen more often. Even in the Pacific Northwest you don't see 'em much. Great to see this video! Keep it alive!! 👍

  • Reminds me of my first Willy's wagon. I traded a 1950 Dodge pu for it in 1978, I was 27 years old and thought I'd hit the jackpot. On my 5th engine (sbc) converted to a Muncie 4 speed in 82, It's still the jewel of my fleet. Hope you have as much fun with yours as I've had with mine. It's been as far south as Ensinada Mexico, North into British Columbia, East to Dallas - Fort Worth and now lives in Northern California.

    • Yes there will be more on the jeep. We have some decisions to make regarding the drivetrain, however, as whoever swapped the engine used an adapter casting of unknown origin which allows for only two bolts to hold the transmission to the bellhousing. A such I don't want to start dumping money into it until that problem is solved.

  • I am SHOCKED, absolutely SHOCKED! You guys got the farm shop cleared out enough to actually get the Willies in under cover. AMAZING! :) It hasn't been that cleared out in ....... ummmm..... probably 40 years. Well, enough of that, I do have a couple of questions; what is the little burst of flame seen at 8:50 to 8:56 just above the right headlight? What did you use for the clutch plate alignment pin at 35:22? A 38:00 it looks as though there is a crack across the bottom of the flange that mates to the bell housing, is that correct? When are you going to tackle the Road Grader?.........Reminds me a lot of the resurrection of the Put Put. :) Hey, you could name it Put-Put II.

    @torvaldsorenson2079@torvaldsorenson207929 күн бұрын
    • Clearing the shop has been a slow but rewarding process. The burst of flame is a backfire from the Carb which started a small fire on top of the engine. We used a plastic alignment tool that came with some past clutch job, although the pilot pin had to be turned down, the splines matched being a somewhat standard 10 spline by 1 1/8" shaft. That crack is the result of what the person who swapped the engine did to adapt the bellhousing to that intermediate casting flange. They brazed on a steel plate to the cast housing. It is not structural at all, unfortunately, meaning that only the top two bolts are holding things together. This is the greatest mental impedance for us when considering where to continue the project form here. As for the road grader, we recently got a 40ton porta power pancake jack to remove the wheel hubs so we can extract the final drive chain. Hopefully. we will film the Put-Put's second revival for KZhead before too long as well. Thanks for Watching.

      @PlateauFarms@PlateauFarms28 күн бұрын
    • @@PlateauFarms Thanks for the reply! Good to hear that the grader is on the list of revivals. :) It's always an "interesting" experience finding what others have done to a piece of machinery in order to repair or "upgrade"n it. You mght be able to beef up that braze then turn the steel plate flush with the face of the trany and have a workable solution to the bell-housing/trany mismatch.
