  • Recently a bud of mine ended his life. He was a great friend, just like he said I was in his last message to me. He listened to this song a lot, and I remember sitting in his room with him while he played it. At the time I just knew of the song as a meme. But now the song holds an entirely different meaning. I really miss him. Any of you who read this, please have a good day. Never say it's the end. You have a bright life ahead, even if you may not know it yet. I hope the sun brightens your day. I love you all. And if you can't find the light in life. Say hey to Jack for me please.

  • I just want to thank my old man for showing me this... Music has been a very important friend in my life, and this song is very special to me. We live in Colombia, my father could not speak English, but I remember one time that he put this on KZhead in the T.V. He said: "Escucha esto, es tremenda historia" (Listen to this, it is such a story"). He didn't understand a single word, but the video gave him the clues that he needed to consider this song a "masterpiece". You don't need to understand music, you just need to feel it. R.I.P to my daddy, I will love you forever, and I am very grateful for everything that you taught me.

He or she uses simple words, yet when they are combined and ordered into simple thoughts magic happens. A simple yet beautiful, expression and chronicle of a fragment of life is captured. This tune could easily be called poetry. This is why I call this period in music "THE GOLDEN AGE OF MUSIC!" peace and a happy life to you!!

  • I think my favorite thing is how every verse is sad. Some of its obvious like the bartender who thinks he could make it in hollywood if he could get out of this place, but then you get subtle stuff like how paul is a real estate novelist. Thats not a thing. Thats the kind of thing you say to a guy at the bar to pretend to be someone successful. And being in the navy for life isnt automatically a bad thing, but you can tell he is a life long deck swabber, not a guy staying in there as he moves up the ladder and becomes an admiral or something. Just all of it, the closest thing they have to being happy is getting drunk and losing themselves to a good melody for a few minutes. And the song itself is melancholy in lyrical form.

Don't judge, we were both kids and tired as hell hours before; it was NOT Billy's fault. I awoke halfway through this song. And I'll never forget it. BJ's Moscow concert was one of the only CDs that survived our house being broken into back in 1990 and I still have it. My favorite version of Goodnight Saigon.

    • So fucking true I get that so much. It's called precognitive nostalgia. Some believe it's from past lives. Some think it's the brain knowing one day the memory will happen and it becomes excited for the memory. Very common in sensitive or depressed people who don't have currently happy lives, so they hope that their future will be better. Hi, I'm Jack. And I'm too interested in my own psychology. Good day.
