Audi RS e-tron GT: better looking than a Taycan and Model S?

This is the Audi e-tron GT! It’s Audi first all-electric car that’s not an SUV, and it’s got the Porsche Taycan & Tesla Model S in its sights!
There’s one thing we have to mention first of all - the gorgeous looks! It’s sportier than the Model S, and it’s got some fabulous tail lights! So when it comes to the style stakes, it's easily up there with the Porsche and Tesla.
So it’s got the looks, but how about performance? Well it's powered by dual motors, which will produce 476hp in the regular e-tron GT! However, it also comes equipped with a ‘Boost Mode’, which will up the power to 530hp for 2.5 seconds - the same as what you’ll find in a Taycan 4S! It’ll also hit 60mph in just 4.1 seconds.
As for the RS edition? Well that's also powered by dual motors, so it'll put down 598hp, up to 646hp when you engage Boost mode! Not only that, but it'll also produce 830Nm!
So the e-tron GT's definitely got the performance stats to match its rivals, and the same can be said about the price! While the regular e-tron GT comes in at £87,000 (£3k more than the Taycan), the RS comes in at £120,000! But is it worth it? You'll have to stick with Mat to find out!

    • Its like a Home-Button on a 2021 High End Smartphone... There are nowadays still a few manufactures with many buttons but slowly they will disappear. There is no stopping it. Exactly the same with electric cars in general. They slowly "eat" gasoline cars.

    • @@graffitiistkunst8753 it's really a trend for car manufacturers to place the sensors prominently to ruin the looks of a car. Like Mercedes with the new S-Class and Maybach, Audi with the E-Tron GT, Porsche with the cameras on the 911 and Taycan and one thing that really annoys me: the off center camera in the grille of the Bentley flying Spur. I would pay 5K extra just for that thing to be either removed or at least centered. BMW and Rolls-Royce hide their sensors and cams pretty well in my opinion.

    • @@paulschubert8490 I got no qualms about design either way. That's always preference but to say functionality then you've got to say the Tesla is far ahead. More than 200 miles more range, wider and reliable charging network as well as the ability to use third party network in a pinch, much more boot space, has probably the best autosteer system as that is a part of functionality of a car these days. Imo if you're talking purely about functionality then it isn't a hard choice. The choice becomes harder when you take into account Audi superior build quality and preference for design. That's where emotions come in

    • @@moa-wg3bo E-tron may charge faster but 420 miles compared to around 250 miles if they get it tested, then 5-80% is 187.5 miles for the E-tron and 315 miles for the Telsa. 13 minutes of fast charging in the Tesla will give you the same additional range as 22 minutes in the E-Tron. Though for my needs the range would be fine in both with charging at home, so if it was down to looks (as much as I like Tesla) id pick the Audi.

    • Lol the range of this car will be close to half of the Tesla model S plaid plus and 400hp less. And the interior of the Tesla plaid plus will be upgraded. Tesla has also a better battery technology. You get pretty much for that extra 11k.

    • Agreed, the current audi aesthetic is a bit busy and won't age well, its too "trendy" with its oversized grille. Model S and taycan are more plain but clean and 1 of them is already starting to stand the test of time.

  • Overall looks like a nice (but pricey) package. Glad to see they’ve gone back to physical buttons for the HVAC controls, not sure about the vents underneath though... Currently running a B9 S4 which I love, hoping there’ll be something a bit more in budget further down the line to encourage me to switch.

    • @@richardchester2148 Me too! I think this would be a good replacement for my S5. The GT is just too big for me, like the S7. Since the RS e-tron GT is priced like the RS7, we could be lucky and the S e-tron GTS could cost around the same as an S5. Fingers crossed 🤞

  • In Norway we can order the Audi GT next week. The price is about Euro 87000 - 96000 and for RS GT 119000. Tezla S costs 80 000, Plaid 110000 and Plaid + 120 000. Taycan starts at 72000-4S 94000 - Turbo 134000 and TurboS Euro 160 000. Here there will be competition for customers

  • Thank Nora for that. An electric car with a decent, usable interface. LONG LIVE BUTTONS. No idiotic touchscreen nonsense to perform the most common, basic functions. It's not like I can afford any of these high end electric beasts, but Audi wins anyway just because of that.

  • Looks count and this thing is bloody beautiful. Craps on all the others in its class so far. Looks like that are worth 2 seconds in your 0-60. I prefer the more traditional interior too, buttons are much less distracting to use when driving than menus.

    • Idk... the base model is more expensive than a Taycan... for the first time an Audi is more expensive than a Porsche. This makes me doubt if the etron is worth it since it doesn’t have PASM, PDCC, and all other Porsche magic for the same price. As of range, worse aerodynamics plus same battery pack as a taycan does not seem promising so not getting closer to tesla territory quite yet... still looks good tho

  • the only downside to that interior is that the A/C controls & row of buttons under it with the hazards etc are both lifted straight from the A3 (they're not new for the e tron GT). but I still prefer that to endless touchscreens !
