The world’s most dangerous arms dealer | DW Documentary

He’s a key figure in the clandestine wranglings of two superpowers: the United States and China. The FBI announced a five-million-dollar bounty for information leading to his arrest. Intelligence agencies and investigators have been trying for decades to stop him in his tracks: the arms dealer Karl Lee.
The Chinese businessman has helped Iran develop its huge missiles arsenal. Missiles that kill in the Middle East, that are supplied to Russia for possible deployment in Ukraine and have the potential to carry nuclear warheads. The documentary is the first to tell the story of the hunt for the phantom-like Karl Lee, alias Li Fangwei, probably the world’s most dangerous weapons dealer. He’s been indicted in absentia in the US and American presidents have even personally asked Beijing to take action against him. But his network continues to be active; and he’s still high up on the FBI’s most-wanted list. And this, at a time when missiles and nuclear warheads are becoming a tangible threat to humanity.
The documentary follows Karl Lee’s trail across four continents, from Washington and New York to Tel Aviv, from Europe to Teheran, Beijing and Karl Lee’s factory in northeastern China. The prize-winning investigative journalists Philipp Grüll, Frederik Obermaier and Bastian Obermayer provide unique insights into the world of spy agencies and diplomacy. At the same time, the film is a lesson in the powerlessness of the West and the rise of China - as well as an unflinching appraisal of the new world order.

He was so good, so exceptionally good at exporting these goods by way of beating/overcoming the US Banks, People & Processes in place that are supposed to stop and catch these illicit deals with Iran;- that it escalated all the way up to US/Chinese presidential levels and he became an embarrisment for Xi. What you can pick up from this documentary is: It is pretty clear that the Chinese are turning a blind eye to these dealer networks with Iran. This one was dealth with only because it lasred for years and finally escalated to Presidetial. That is China for you.

In China, you cannot legally own firearms, so does anyone really believe that a random Chinese individual would be able to get inside arms dealing, and not just any arms dealing but WMD dealing? This man is working for the Chinese government, without any doubt. And why would any Chinese official "care"? Iran is an important partner for Beijing to form an Axis against the West, and supplying ballistic missile technology to Tehran is likely a decision made by the top leadership in Beijing. Don't expect any cooperation.

The ballistic missiles program is complete anyway so get over it. China will be number 1 country globally. China at least wants to only do business in particular in Africa and Middle East. • Unpopular opinion here: But I have started to get the impression that America assumes they pioneered the Nuclear Bomb / Missiles therefore they dictate what country can have them…. You see where I’m going with this right…

    • @@syedatasneemtowhid8149 Behold! These sacred isles reveal a canvas of echoes from ages past, Where piracy's flame first sparked, And the sinister veil of the slave trade was cast. Amidst the waves, whispers of rum-running sway, And buccaneering spirits roam the shores to this day. The winds carry secrets of contraband and death, And these islands have become a haven for forbidden lore. In these realms, shadows intertwine, Where drug lords spin their illicit tales, Money launderers weave their wicked designs, And gun trades flourish, veiled by the darkness nigh. Yet, amidst the twilight's clandestine thrill, This land demands a vow of profound secrecy, Where there are no fails. Here, one pays their debts, bills fulfilled, And prying eyes dare not meddle, unbound. In this enchanted realm, wild revelry reigns, Opulence swirls, and rich tapestries unfurl. All are beckoned to partake in joyous strains, And even the most modest souls release her hair, Drinking and dancing, the morning is near. Behold these islands, where stories unfold, A realm of contrasts where secrets dance and play, A life's passions hold sway. Oh, how this land sings a poetic song, A symphony of life, love, and stories of who lived to see another day..

    • Love to see DW do a documentary on why is it that Trump is beholden to Putin. What has Putin given Trump on Kevin McCarthy and all the other GOP politicians that they are prepared to be ridiculed in front of the whole world for being cowards and spineless? Trump's surrender to Putin in Helsinki, Kevin McCarthy's 180-degree turn on Jan 6th insurrection ... Would DW dare to upset their Americans and Russian friends to investigate the thing that will destroy American democracy?
