This winter, we decided not to glaze the enclosure, because the winter is quite warm, although there is a lot of snow.
Last year it was a necessity, because Gerda came to us from Sochi, where the climate is different. She needed acclimatization.
A huge disadvantage of glazing the enclosure is the lack of "communication" with the outside world in the form of smells and sounds. Last winter, they did not communicate with Messi at all. In the snow it was necessary to clean the roof, and this is quite dangerous, because you can only walk on the boards connecting the squares of the gratings. When it snowed, it was dark in the enclosure, and when it was cold, the windows froze. This year we decided that we would glaze the aviary only if the winter was frosty again. The glazing of the enclosure is only necessary to protect against frost!
