Chris Froome 2024 is still a disaster in cycling, but the criticism is no longer coming from Sylvan Adams, technical director of the Israeli Premier. Now he is being criticized by the Spanish press, very close to the Movistar team and Nairo Quintana, the Colombian cyclist who could not compete for 1 season in the World Tour because of the Tramadol case. Now, it is the newspaper Marca who comments that in Sky, the cyclists of the British team took the famous painkiller mixed with other stimulant substances such as coffee or taurine. It is clear that although Juan Ayuso has won the Itzulia 2024 and Mathieu van der Poel the Paris Roubaix 2024 as it was very clear the news in the world of cycling also come from another side.
We understand that Marca does not mention Chris Froome explicitly, but the white Kenyan was in Sky from practically its creation until its demise, while ensuring that Tramadol was used in the team, not simply "some Sky cyclists". You can not race for 4-5 hours a day for 21 days on gels & rice cakes, people need to grow up.
When you wrote "grow up", you meant "dope up", right? You're saying doping is fine, and not relying on ability alone? That winning is more important than the health of the riders?
@@backalleycqc4790 As i said grow up.
@Palmer, it's interesting that they would eat+drink for about 500kcal an hour. With the rest of the energy being taken from glycogeen in the body. All that sugar, would make me think they would become diabetes sooner rather then later. But far from my field of expertise.
I appreciate that you listed more than 3 riders when talking about the crash this week. I'm a Belgian fan but the way many news outputs have only mentioned 1-3 injured is really disappointing to me
Oscar Pereiro has to be the most forgotten TdF winner since the 1960s. He just won and disappeared.
He had a statue of him (green one, ridiculous one) in Mos, Galicia But he’s very popular in Spain because he worked in the most famous (and yellow press) football program on TV
Marca saying the quiet part out loud. Thomas is a real dope, and I mean that in the cerebral way, "shit for brains" to be more precise, a guy lacking in class or culture but wraps himself in pure clichèd shiny new things as if somehow he's ahead of the curve, he clearly can't find it in himself to apologise to Nairito. .. Those bottles though....you do wonder 😅😅😅
Tramadol does work and can be get rid of very fast if needed before urinating or even blood tests. For some riders, it gives that extra euphoria only some strong amphies can give. It is known to be a very good anti depresiva for certain people.
Tramadol is just dabbling and hardly going to do much compared to cortisone for weight loss, epo and blood bags. If tramadol was the edge in the early noughties doesnt that rather suggest things were somewhst cleaner than now? Btw im sure the edge back then was actually half pints and micro doses of edgar. The edge pog and vinegard have is their bio passport is close to 50 as they came in to the sport boosting their red blood cells, so their doped up blood is in it's "normal" range, same with mvp and others. Rules are there to be gamed.
It's just a small part of the big picture. It's significant, but in plain sight unlike a lot of the other stuff. Tramadol is still heavily used at a lot of Conti races where dope tests are few and far between, and completely absent in many countries, as it clears the system so quickly so there's little to no risk of popping.
I believe some of them quit regular coffee drinking because caffeine only has a measurable effect on non coffee drinkers. Something like 3 cups of coffee worth, which the rules allow. For regular coffee drinkers, the effect is small to non existent. So no caffeine except on race day for them. I saw a study in a cycling book years ago that found this.
It might be true but there is a small issue with this theory: cyclists in general throw their bottles during races and at least some of those bottles containing Tramadol and other...dubious substances would have been found, right?
Now they can’t use tramadol and in the past tramadol wasn’t banned That’s the reason of confession of Westra for example
I picked up a MovieStar bottle marked with rider's name on it at foot of Col de Portet de Aspet in 2013... fuull of a pink viscous goo. sort of pleasant aniseed/strawberry flavour. Sort of kid's medecine, quite delicious. I took a couple of mouthfulls, and went up that and the following climb like a pro. I dont know what was in it ( I used it sparingly for the next 2 days too, in the Pyranees) but it certainly was Good Gas. Some weeks later I was out with my old DS from the 70s ( famous Italian DS/Owner) and described the goo. He smiled knowingly and wouldnt tell me nuffink ... LOL

Taylor Phinney was complaining of "finishing bottles" years ago. This is old news. As far as Froome is concerned: I couldn't think of a more irrelevant cyclist in the 2020s. Froome's approach to racing was terrible for the sport. The dude could barely finish a race just weeks after slaughtering everyone at the TDF, and he was never a threat in the World Championships or any other significant one-day race. Good riddance to him and Team Sky.
You can say the same thing about The Dane Jonas.
They kept putting off a decision on CF getting caught doping at the Giro, under assault from Sky lawyers, until everyone just forgot about it... never could stand that mister corporate bald sky director, and his incremental gains, which was just.slang for doping up to the legal limit, amongst other things using TUE's from their national sports body....

Well as someone who uses tramadol for medical reasons (lower back is gradually falling apart) I can say they can be an effective painkiller. Technically though, tramadol was legal up until a couple of years ago when UCI jumped the gun and banned tramadol a year before WADA were going to put it on their list so let's not go overboard on applying today's standards to things that happened 8 to 10 years ago. However, having said that, it is hypocritical of GT to criticise Nairo but we know with cyclists they criticise more for getting caught/taking the test than anything else. These guys have an image to maintain for sponsors. Personally I think the stigma should be taken away from drug use per se because it will only make matters worse trying to maintain an image and that will lead to more teams trying to weave an ever-more dangerous bending of the rules. Still have the drug tests but I think vilifying the cyclists for taking substances to help ameliorate the level of pain they're in doesn't do anyone any good.
I rode the UK junior RR champs in the late 1980's. There was at least one rider swigging from a tiny bottle. I assumed (in my naivety?) that it was just caffeine and sugar. I finished in front of them anyway ;)
These guys put their body through things unimaginable by a normal person when they race 3 or 4 tours, a few monuments, and 2 grand tours in the same year. The grand tours by themselves are over two thousand RACING miles. And somehow someone is surprised they are taking pain killers to deal with agony of doing this? Pain killers are a part of competing at high level in all real sports. When people push their bodies to the limits of what they are supposed to be able to do, there is going to be a lot of pain. Tramadol was used to handle the pain. Now that tramadol is illegal, they will switch to something that is not. It's part of being at the highest level in a sport. And it has been this way since sport was invented. It is not a big secret. Athletes figure out how to get their bodies to perform at the highest level while following the rules (assuming they are not knowingly cheating). Every year, something new is added to the banned list. That doesn't mean that the guys who used tramadol to control their pain before it was banned were cheaters. To be clear, the riders have always used what they are allowed to use to improve their performance. And they have always used medication to deal with the pain from going beyond what we thought the human body could possibly do. This looking back and trying to discredit guys who rode in the past because the rules changed now is stupid. And guessing which guys used what after they are done competing is useless unless you have drug tests to prove what you are saying. I do understand the bad attitude towards hypocrites, if in fact, they did use the same substance they are attacking someone else for using.
Tramadol is the reason they were taking off their bikes so much in the past few years. It sedating but it’s used to remove the pain of hard efforts, it works
In Norway car driving is prohibited if you are taking Tramadol. So it is probably not safe to ride bicycle at high speed when you have been eating Tramadol. The same goes for many other painkillers, especially opioids.

In the book Fallen Angel by William Fortheringham, he writes about Fausto Coppi taking the final bottle about 20-ish miles from the finish line. Packed full of Caffeine and Amphetamines. The final bottle has been around since the first Tour De France and probably a day after the Dandy-Horse was created.
Nice
Oil is typically slang for testosterone. Was him saying that bold, or naive?
Reasons why I really don't pay much attention to Professional cycling, while I do ride a bicycle and quite a lot in my early days, many said I should be racing but I simply didn't like the attitude of many within the racing crowd, so to say I stayed far away, on the other hand I loved playing a good game of unprotected American tackle football, it got so brutal at times one day the other side was wondering out loud, what kind of drugs is that guy on, I would reply out loud back to them, no drugs baby, I'm 100% DRUG FREE!
