  • I think a lot of people forget Caufield and Suzuki played fantastic in the playoffs. Suzuki was one of our best offensive if not our best offensive player. Caufield wasnt producing but created a lot of chances and did score a good # of goals versus Vegas. I think the way Slaf plays will translate in the season to the playoffs due to his frame and him not abusing the 2-1-2 system like a Marner. We already seen Kirby play fantastic as well in the post season. So in terms of how our team would do IN the playoffs. I think its a matter of goaltending that decides how our run goes. In terms of what they need to take that step: Get 1 or 2: line 2 players in that top 6. One very offensive for Example Debrusk And a physical two way player who still is good offense Schmaltz and i think that core healthy is a wild card team.

  • I agree with most of your premise Coach. I do think though that Caufield (and Hutson) are going to be key elements of the team as you can have small, talented players but there's only so many spots for them. This is why I've been repeatedly saying about the upcoming draft: unless it's a potential elite superstar like Demidov who you have to take if available, there's no more room for small, finesse players on this team and I fully expect whoever we choose at #5 to reflect that.

  • Well done Coach....For the playoffs I always like to say you need a good combination of the 3 S's to be successful - Skill, Speed and Size. Size is inclusive of physicality, grit and compete level. Having just 2/3 of these can get you close but more likely not to the promised land.

SCREW CONCEPTS that target speed & skill only .... HIT EVERYTHING IN SITE AND REPOSSES THE PUCK when your team loses it.. Learn from Dallas and Florida Panthers. They can beat you with skill and speed. Not the most talent but intimidating to play against them .... Fear is what makes all of us take a quick decision to survive. ... Your fancy play becomes secondary to survival... Great teams should have NUCLEAR Deterrent's ... in their lineup.

    • @@HockeyNationLiveShow That is exactly what I am saying about size. Player must be physical have grit and compete. If they are tall then that is a bonus. Easier to impose all these characteristics when you are taller than average size. For example, Would you rather have Bennett or a Jamie Benn in his prime? If you are bigger you also stand a greater chance of not getting injured.

      @enortap@enortap14 күн бұрын
    • I would say we have a lot of speed and size. It's just that talent we dont have a lot of. Yes there are some guys like Caufield, Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Matheson, Hutson, Newhook who have talent but we haven't seen a full 82 games of the Slaf we know on line 1. We only had 2 games from Hutson. We had half a season from Newhook. So that's why I think Montreal is actually playoff ready. Physicality/Size I think is good enough. The speed we have is good enough. It's just that talent. Caufield who is basically our most talented winger underperformed offensively as well. I think next year if our talented forwards stay up to expectations and stay healthy we are in. I also say this is why I want Demidov. He is soo talented. Would help us so much more in our unreliable talent.

  • Agreed with pretty much everything you touched on. In any event, the team will look much different when they do make the playoffs. With the log jam on defense, it's hoped they could turn that into some offense and tuffness Via trade. The draft and upcoming season will probably give us a good view of who will be part of the long-term plan. Any player could be moved to make a non-playoff a playoff team Imo. That's precisely the job of the general manager. Good video, keep up the insights coach.

  • Here's how; You build a team with 12 forwards 6 defenseman and 2 goaltenders that are all good enough in their role. If you can do that. You are in the playoffs. Right now. I would say our line 1, 3, 4 on Forwards are good enough so 9/12. On defense. I would say Matheson was good #1 Guhle was a good #2 Savard was a good #3. Struble was good enough. Kovacevic was good enough. So 5/6 and in net. I think Monty and Primeau are both good enough in a tandem. So 2/2. That gives us a 16/20 score. With Kirby Dach on line 2 I think that's 17 and with Hutson coming in that's 18/20. That's 90% to become a playoff team like Islanders. But with that number we will compete for wild card. However. If Newhook and Roy prove they could be good enough on line 2 then I think that and health is the difference between playoffs and no playoffs.

    @4u2nvHock3y@4u2nvHock3y14 күн бұрын
    • Thanks for you comment but disagree with you 4U. You can't win with Montembeault and Primeau. Secondly their power play is not good enough whatsoever you add Hutson and Dach. Their PK is very bad. You can't win with their roster at 90%. It's not realistic to jump from 75 points to 93 points. It's 18 more points... They have to add 8 more different players before they can become a playoffs team and maybe 10. Your bottom line have 5 goals last year. Your third line had 25 goals overall. You need more from the bottom. Savard Kovacevic Xhekaj Struble Harris all of them are third pairing in the NHL? You still have Dvorak Evans Anderson Pezzetta RHP Ylonen with how many goals all together. Yes you add Dach but you lost Monahan. They can be a better team but 84 points will be their maximum next year unfortunatrely.

      @HockeyNationLiveShow@HockeyNationLiveShow13 күн бұрын
    • @HockeyNationLiveShow Coach. I get you might not be the biggest fan of Monty and Primeau. But if you look at their numbers they were both fantastic. Not to mention. Philly was above .500 With Erisson as their goalie who is worse then Montambeault. I look at their roster and think our top guys could be better then theirs in Suzuki Caufield Slaf over Frost Konecky Couturier. And our defense. We have a better #1 and basically a Cam York. I guess the deph isn't enough for you but 15+ goals from each of Armia Gally Anderson is very possible next year. Along with Kirby Dach. A new developed Slafkovsky. A hopefully better shooting % Caufield. A elite offensive defenseman Hutson.

      @4u2nvHock3y@4u2nvHock3y13 күн бұрын
    • @HockeyNationLiveShow Philly had the worst PP as well. I get they had a good PK. But I think it's safe to say one of our special teams can go to top 15. I think PP. Just imagine if Caufield gets 35+ goals. Slaf 30+ goals. Suzuki 30+ goals. Dach 25+ goals. Matheson another 5-10 goals. I think about 35% of those will be PP goals. So 49 PP goals probably just from PP 1. And on the other PP 2 let's say 10 goals and you can get up to 59 goals. 59 goals on the PP this year on 246 PPs would be 24%. I'm not saying that this will be our PP. But it's just to show that if our guys play up to their expectations next year it's not crazy to think they could have a top 15 pp.

I found guys like Marner who are fantastic in season and not so good in the playoffs use the 2-1-2 system which basically forces and odd man rush aka that exciting Hockey. Caufield in 2022-23 used it. Not a lot but he did. This season he used it maybe 2 times. That's very good sign. This is how Caufield would've been if we made the playoffs. And now that he's playing like this. I think he will develop his game more in the path of how Ovi scores. Not saying he will score 60. But he will use his shot more next season and still create good plays while being good in playoffs.
