  • Been watching your videos for several years now and believe having two combines have been more advantageous for you. Lost time due to break downs have been minimized because you still have a back up. Traveling to multiple smaller fields would cause you lost time by one machine handling them all. I am not a farmer unfortunately and I am sure you, your dad and BJ have thought about this also. Thanks for the great videos.

  • We run a 7120 case and a 1660 Case, we only have about 2000 acres but our macdon header on our 7120 had some issues with bearings which is to be expected after 30,000ish acres but we can’t get parts on time here in Alberta. So we had to finish everything with the 1660. The 1660 finished just over 1/2 of our acres this year because we couldn’t get parts for our macdon head in Canada… where they’re made… took me 3 weeks longer to finish than it should have. I will swath wheat and canola next year so i can just pick it up and get done with the big combine

But we like to keep it in the 6500 buhr range, 7500 did 5.5 mph through 90 bu wheat and 120 bu oats this year with the 40ft convio draper. Oh and the 7500 will give the x9 a run for its money for half the price, and only use 100 gallons of fuel a day compared to 250 with a deere

  • The auger on that demo machine (7XL Auger) is both big enough for a 50 and even 60 foot header, but in the European market is designed specifically for 40 foot heads because the auger reaches over the path the combine took on the previous row, so the tractor drives where the combine has driven for compaction prevention.

From what you all are saying you are pleased with this class of combine. Only issue is the head I guess. But you are doing good with what you have so far just want to go faster. Only other thing you mentioned was the lights. But can always update those to meet your needs Like your thinking about going to one big combine and harvest that way. Know you all will figure it out you fit your needs. Good luck on the demo. Thanks for everything Brian. Was interesting video. Thanks. The Iowa Farm Boy. Steve.

We don’t own a combine and have custom harvesters. They also have two of the big new holland machines. They did a better job cleaning then the Deere.

Got rid of two class 7 case combines and went to an 8250 case this year. Definitely missed having two to cut beans. We actually hired an neighbor or got done early to help us knock our beans out. I’m gonna guess by next year we have second combine. Good chance it’ll be a claas as well. Demo’d an 8600 a couple weeks ago and it’s quite impressive for a class 8 machine.

Have since traded to the 8600 as no 8700 were available but new 8600 will as a class 8 out perform the 760 class 9. 8600 has same width feeder house as bigger machine and same bin capacity. This year put on a 18 row 30 inch spacing head way more efficient less ear loss lower speeds and with our 36 row planter work much better. Combined hailed out corn 198 bu acre handled the 18 row very well.

  • As you say you can call the 1 vs 2 combines both ways. If you have the manpower to keep them running you will do more acres with two medium combines than on large and have the security of a ‘spare’. If not one large one will be more economical in both labour, fuel and maintenance. All I can say is a few years back we went from two New Hollands to a single Claas. We changed brand for the deal not because we particularly had a bad experience with NH. We have not looked back and replaced the Claas 3 times since. Has it been down, hell yes but in the UK Claas field service is excellent and I don’t think we have waited more than 36hrs for any part to be supplied and fitted.

  • Hello Brian, I been watching you every time you release a video, but not commenting just given you the thumbs up, Brian I must say that big is not always better, I'm referring to all Harvesters, Until you get a break down, I think you are better running 2 Combine Harvesters 40 to 45 ft , those big fronts are nothing but head aches, your Country you are Farming lends it self to the 40 to 45 ft if the Harvester can handle it, and up to a 16 row corn front & they will do the better Job, imagine if you had a real big front 50ft plus & a big corn and something goes wrong your up the creek with out a paddle, for me I think you have it right with 2 good size Harvesters, loved the video, OH don't try pushing to much through that corn head at speed it might give you some problems being a 12 row, on that note Cheers & Best Wishes to all the Brown Family, Regards Trevor.W.Bacelli.
