  • when i used to mention Life day back in the day - lets say 1994 - 2001 before Lego star wars and some other stuff made it widely known as it is now - but back then when only a select few who didnt repress the memory of this special - those of us who watched as it happened that November because we were actual real life Star Wars nerds from the VERY FIRST MOVIE - and people know what i was was talking about it made me very happy - almost as happy as i am on actual life day

  • George let it happen because he got money from the network, in 1978 he had no idea how Big the Star Wars universe would become. He could have said No Way but he wanted and needed extra money this was before Empire Strikes Back went into production in 1979

  • The Holiday Special is my absolute favorite Star Wars movie to get high as fuck too. That and Attack Of The Clones.

  • I watch it every year. I have a wonderful copy. The RiffTrax version is fun too. I do look forward to seeing this documentary. I don't suppose it will hit a streaming service soon, will it? :)

  • It looks like the MPAA trailer band screen. It says, "This special PREVIEW has been approved for ALL audiences by the Motion Picture Association of America." Also, this reminds me of the teaser trailer for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). It's from 20th Century-Fox and Lucasfilm Ltd.

  • I don't remember when this aired in 1978 on that night I must have been out or doing something else or watching something else crazy that I never knew it was on TV back then I would have watched it but have no memory of it being on.

  • I started renting the video on VHS at Portland's Movie Madness starting in 1997. Had kids in 2001 and 2003. Rented it over and over again on VHS until I think it was pulled from the shelf. I was ALWAYS SO AFRAID that my machine would eat the tape. I got so paranoid that I would return it nor rewound fearing my VCR would eat it up. I asked recently, but can't remember their comment, if it still there to rent. My kids grew up on that POS video. So corny and over the top. Is that the first place for Boba Fett to appear??? I think maybe???

  • I generally want to see things succeed, but there's a part of me that would love it if this was one of the worst documentaries ever made. It'd just be kinda fitting.

  • How you didn't include the Rifftrax guys in this documentary, I don't understand. Oh, and The Wiz really is that gimmicky, forgettable... RIP Gilbert

  • The Star Wars Holiday Special was the second biggest blunder and greatest threat that almost killed Star Wars...the first and far more insidious is Kathleen Kennedy.

    @TheJuRK@TheJuRK Жыл бұрын
    • The whole Kathleen hate is a bit overdone don't you think ? She has on her resume most of our favorite childhood movies... It's not like she wanted to kill starwars or anything. Plus arguably and as always : those products are the works of many people, things don't go with just because one person fucked up. She ain't the one writing the story, it went through multiple meetings with jj Abrams to decide to reforge kylo ren helmet before smashing it 5 minutes later...

    • @@startide Kathleen Kennedy had an opportunity to have Luke, Han, and Leia together and she, Kathleen Kennedy, ordered the writers to dump them in favor of her lame diversity hire characters (and she screwed them up). She fired anyone with talent in favor of cucks like JJ and Rian. She killed Star Wars.

      @TheJuRK@TheJuRK Жыл бұрын
    • @@TheJuRK no need to be so hyperbolic, star wars isn't dead. I think it has more to do with prices and lifespam for the characters... you can't ask Mark to be luke skywalker for 20 more years. They obviously HAD to phase them out somehow. I mean carrie fisher passed away during the making of that trilogy if that's evidence enough for ya. Now the story being garbage, 100%. But that's a team effort to get that level of garbage. I think it's just that disney wanted to cash in fast on their 4 billions spent on star wars, and rushed things into motion too quickly. KK is producer for rogue one and solo, and those are decent movies (especially rogue one, obviously)... so it's not like she was on a course to destroy all things star wars. She may have fucked up stuff, probably. I don't follow the popular idea that she wants to kill star wars... that's just ridiculous.

      @startide@startide Жыл бұрын
    • @@startide KK wants to sacrifice each property for her lame political ambitions. The Luke Skywalker in the Disney trilogy is NOT the Luke Skywalker from the original trilogy and Mark's age has nothing to do with it. The reason it's the "popular idea" that KK killed Star Wars is because...KK killed Star Wars. They suck. And it sounds like she's trying to do the same thing to Indiana Jones.
