  • Holographic sights tends to look fuzzy if you're focused on them. You're supposed to look through them, not at them. If you stay target-focused, the reticle will appear crisp.

  • I have the Holosun HS510C and I've been extremely happy with my purchase, I was able to find it on sale and couldn't pass it up. I was able to pickup a couple of the risers when they were in stock at Primary Arms and I highly recommend it if you like to have a higher ride height. I run fixed irons on my ARs and much rather have the higher 1/3 cowitness. For the $ I don't think you could go wrong with the Holosun, no it isn't battle tested like the Eotech, but for my uses I am highly satisfied with my choice. Thank you for the great video as always!

    • Honestly, Holosun is definitely giving them a run for their money. I use to own an Eotech 512 and at the time there was not any good alternatives to a holographic sight. Yes there was aimpoint, but the reticle is what I liked on the Eotech which aimpoint didn't offer. But now that I see this Holosun, I am blown away. I think it is a very good alternative and definitely competes with the Eotech and even beats it in certain categories. The price and battery life alone puts it at a very good spot compared to any Eotech.

      @Fin.mint.@Fin.mint.2 жыл бұрын
    • @@Fin.mint. Holosuns being used in Ukraine doesn't change that the comment is still 1000% true. Any other red dot has parallax. That means if you aren't perfectly lined up that dot is in the wrong place and will miss long range unless you account for the distortion. Ukrainians are taking what they can get holosuns included. The elite in the military use EOTech. Your comment is ass because you don't know what you are talking about.

  • You didn't point out that although the Eotech is better with night vision, the Holosun lets you run that single dot, making it just as effective I would think, since it's not drowning out your target nearly as much... assuming you're cool with just the dot anyway. Would have liked to see that with night vision. Good video, good comparison!

    @RJMeix007@RJMeix0073 жыл бұрын
    • If you're using either sight correctly, neither reticle will drown out your target. With these types of sights, you should be focusing on your target not the dot unless you're referring to distance shooting.

  • I have both a red and green Holosun HS510C and green HE515 Holosun. I got a good deal on an EOTech EXPS3 so I mounted that to my 14.5 pinned build. With my astigmatism the Holosuns are clearer to me, even with the target focus I’ve read some commenters say is needed with the EOTech. I got the EOTech for its bombproof history and for possible barter ability in SHTF. I think I’d keep my Holosuns to use because of the solar function, as batteries will eventually become hard to find (I am getting 123A rechargeables and a solar panel chargeable portable power station). I’m hoping to not need any of these. They way the world is headed you never can be too prepared.

  • Holosun has the best reticle for people with astigmatism. And in a SHTF situation the ability to operate without a battery is beneficial. Batteries on the shelf tend to maybe last 5-10 years without operation and having an optic that doesn’t necessarily require a battery is great. Most people don’t have NVG either, and opting for a white light and red dot is not a bad idea if you train with it, if not more affordable.

  • I own a Holosun red dot and an Eotech, but I've installed the Holosun HS510C on two of my family member's firearms. Very detailed comparison, but I think a couple of things need to be mentioned. 1. The Holosun and Eotech utilizes two different types of technology to produce their image. The Holosun uses a LED laser, while the Eotech is holographic; pro's and con's to each. 2. The Eotech appears fuzzy by nature, per the owner's manual one should be focusing on the target rather than the reticle and the image should clear up. 3. The Holosun's auto brightness seems great on paper, but I wouldn't recommend having that feature on for two reasons: 1) when using a white light the reticle will be washed out completely. 2) light intensity may differ between you and the target, which the optic may dim the reticle too much to use. 4. The Holosun HS510c is pretty much a large open-reflex sight, debris may obstruct the laser from reaching the lens. All in all, I think the Holosun is a great bang for the buck optic with nice features. The Holosun should satisfy most consumers whether they use it for recreation or home defense. When it comes to ruggedness and reliability I'll take the Eotech, I just wish Eotech would include a shake and wake feature. Great video!

    • I totally agree with all your points except possibly part of 1. Idk if I'm correct but lmk what you think. I thought the holosun uses a LED light (not laser) while the eotech uses an actual laser. Your number 3 is HUGE IMO. I don't think a lot of people realize how true this can be. I also really wish the eotech had a shake awake option.

    • You can stick a cr123/aa's in your pistol grip or butt stock. It turns off by itself after 4 or 8 hours and last continuously on for over a month, the reticle even flashes when its low. The cr123 batteries will last a whole year even with passive drain, you'd have to have it on 1 to 2 hours a day to go through it in a year. That said, you do see police body cameras of guys forgetting to turn on their eotechs all the time, but they are cops so they fuck up a lot anyways.

  • Holoson is a decent red dot no doubt. Lots to like about them, especially when they first came out. They were affordable and for the most part pretty dependable. For $120.00 it was well worth it. Fast foward to 2021, Holoson is pushing $300.00 or more, where as EOTECH is still $450.00 for a 512. If I'm in my yard shooting targets, either is fine. If I'm shooting to defend myself..EOTECH is my GO TO optic.

  • Great review. One other important consideration for some is the combat aspect. Eotech is superior for rugged environments due to it being tried and true in combat and that it can operate even if the glass is broken. This is unlikely for most but it does offer some comfort to those fielding it in extremely austere environments. Eotech is very expensive and I think most users will prefer the holosun. I do dislike the fuzziness that eotech has on very bright settings but as a former combat infantryman I can recommend that all optics should be fired on their lowest brightness setting where the optic is visible otherwise you’re increasing moa thereby reducing accuracy. That is true for all optics. The brighter the reticle the bigger the dot and less precision. The auto on feature is pretty cool also. The optic will always be in the move in tactical environments but long battery life makes it okay. If I grab my weapon the sight comes on. Pretty cool. Hopefully eotech will go that route as well. I do love the solar panel for no battery operation. It would be interesting to know whether or not holosun has configured it to only use battery when in low light pulling from solar first. For military applications batteries are a limitless supply and frequently replaced. For civilians that becomes a huge expense. I imagine that holosun uses solar first and that’s the reason for extreme battery longevity. Additionally you could pack more batteries with less space for holosun. If holosun solar is damaged or the glass is broken users may encounter big problems. Eotech is extremely rugged and ensures that the worst of situations can be prevented. Their engineering is centered around military operations. I might have purchased holosun if I had seen this review first. I just know eotech can take one hell of a beating and maintain zero and is well trusted amongst the most elite fighting forces of the us military. I’ll have to look into magnifiers options for holosun. Maybe I’ll pick it up as well. Great review!!!! Thanks for this.

    @LittlePeckerHomestead@LittlePeckerHomestead3 жыл бұрын
    • The Holosun solar panel runs the optic whenever possible and the battery runs it when solar isn't available. The battery life is only including the battery's life, not in conjunction with solar. I should also mention the "hood" that goes around the optic is titanium and only connects at the base so energy from a hard hit does not transfer through the glass.

    • @@michaelmappin4425 I know your question wasn't directed towards me, but if I may offer an opinion: I am not an operator, but I do own a T2 and an EXPS3. I prefer my EOTech simply because it rocks at CQB and even out to mid-range distances, is built like a tank, has a large FOV, the reticle is awesome, and it looks/works great using NODS. I was really dismayed when I got my brand new T2 and discovered that in order to see it in bright daylight I have to crank it all the way up to settings 10, 11, or 12. Apparently the new ones are not as bright as the old ones from everything I've read on ar15.com. However, even with that being said, my philosophy has always been get what works best for you and train with it a lot in order to become proficient...and carry spare batteries regardless of battery life.

If you're not running night vision the 510C has a lot of advantages (battery life, more settings, smaller, weighs less, and has a crisper dot). Sure the EOTech may have it on night vision, but most civilians like myself don't need to run night vision. But it does come down to personal preference - sure the EOTech is proven in battle but this 510C has gone through stress tests and torture tests and compared to the EOTech. If you want to save a couple hundred this is not a bad option, and it is not "trash".

  • One word not mentioned in the video... parallax. The Eotech, as a HWS, has essentially zero parallax compared to the Holosun reticle. And then put a 3x magnifier in front of both on it to try to hit a 10 inch circle out to 300 yards and parallax error of 5-10 MOA on the Holosun means missing the target even with good elevation hold-overs (like on the Eotech XPS 3-4 or 3-2).

    @joelobryan1212@joelobryan12123 жыл бұрын
  • Some additional things I believe the Eotech has over the holosun are 1) if the glass breaks it still works 2) The center dot stays 1 MOA when magnified, shooting out farther is easier, because the dot doesn’t cover the target. 3x on a 2 MOA holosun is now a 6 MOA dot. 3) holographic has little parallax, so if you do use nods there is some flexibility on eye positions. LED’s typically are not parallax free although holosun seems to imply it maybe is on this optic.

    • It's entirely possible my brain is too simple to understand the magnified 1 MOA thing but I honestly don't. At 1x the dot has a size, which is roughly 1 inch at 100 yards. At 3x the dot has the same size relative to the target, and will appear roughly 3x bigger through the magnifier. The same applies for 2 MOA dot. 1x3 = 3, not 1. I actually did the Lego figure thing to see this for myself. It's not clear to me that the EOTech dot looks much smaller magnified.
