  • Way back in the 1950s my father used the parts storage technique of mounting glass jars under shelves, as shown on the teaser frame. The jars are susceptible to the same things that warrants one's need to wear eye protection in the shop, however.

  • 6:20 is a very useful hack. To get pro level results you can also strip the paper off the drywall in the areas where you apply the reinforcing mess. This way, it comes out perfectly level. If you don't do this, there will always be some uneven raised bump in the areas where there is mesh was used (even if you sand the spackle.)

    @UTAH100@UTAH1002 жыл бұрын
    • dunno that it really qualifies as a hack though... kinda just "how you fix that"

      @AlexMcGaughan@AlexMcGaughan2 жыл бұрын
    • @@AlexMcGaughan I hear what you're saying but I still think it is a hack. It's a shortcut because the proper way to repair it is to take down the dry wall and connect it a new piece to the studs. Years from now if somebody goes back into that wall and sees a piece of wood screwed into the sheet rock the 1st comment they'll say is oh what a hack. But again I totally agree with you that this is a good way to fix it. It works and saves a lot of time.

      @UTAH100@UTAH1002 жыл бұрын
    • @@UTAH100 I take your point, but if I suggested to any of my clients that, to do it right, I would have to replace the entire sheet of drywall to repair a 4” hole, I’m pretty sure that would be the last time they talked to me, lol. I say patch, you say hack, it’s all good.

      @AlexMcGaughan@AlexMcGaughan2 жыл бұрын
    • @@AlexMcGaughan I agree with you. I think it's just the term hack that is causing confusion. A good hack like this one can be a good thing. It is still technically a shortcut. If I had to repair that I would do exactly what he did in the video except I would trim some of the paper off the sheet rock so the seam tape sits more flush when you cover it with spackle.

  • In a long time i ha e seen some tricks that can be usefull

    @SilverEnergy@SilverEnergy3 жыл бұрын
  • Those are some great tips....some i knew and some i didnt. The drywall patch if you cut it a bit larger and score the backside you can peel it so the top layer is larger and when you place it in the whole you can trim it while scoring the wall. Peel the top layer of paper off the wall in that spot and you can use your patch as the tape as well and will not have the need to fill as much as the levels would be relatively the same

  • In the 1960’s my dad had shelves in his garage/shop the underside of which were covered with baby food jars whose lids were screwed to the shelf. A tip on the repair of stripped out holes on the gate hinges, use hardwood as the splints to fill the holes and drill the center so the screw will split the hardwood and wedge it tightly.

    @fanman421@fanman4213 жыл бұрын
    • Just FYI, softwood splits, too.

      @OneTequilaTwoTequila@OneTequilaTwoTequila3 жыл бұрын
    • @@OneTequilaTwoTequila True.... however the hardwood compresses less making for a tighter hold with a screw.

      @fanman421@fanman4213 жыл бұрын
    • @@fanman421 Too little compression and you risk splitting the door, thus requiring the extra step you mentioned of pre-drilling. Either wood will make a strong repair - you just have to adapt the right technique to achieve the desired outcome.
