With my eyes closed, I see nothing
With sorrow in my heart, I open my eyes
A road heading for the wilderness
And nothing else other than what I see.
Ah, all you stars, destined to shatter into pieces
At least you can quietly shed a light on me
I'll go onwards, even if my cheeks turn pallid
I'll go onwards, bidding farewell to the stars
With every breath I have in my chest,
And the cold wind continues to howl
Even so, my heart holds the passion
To keep on pursuing my dream
Ah, all you stars, each nameless among many,
Glowing gloriously as you shatter into pieces
I'll go onwards, as my heart commands
I'll go onwards, bidding farewell to the stars
Ah, someday, someone will walk this road
Ah, someday, someone will walk this road
I'll go onwards, even if my cheeks turn pallid
I'll go onwards, bidding farewell to the stars.
I'll go onwards, bidding farewell to the stars

  • I'm a Japanese born in Brazil. My grandfather was sent to Brazil alone when he was 11 y.o. He'd struggled a lot but he managed to build a family. Allthough he was so young when he left Japan, he never forgot about his family and the places he used to go. He was happy in Brazil, but when he talked about Japan, you could feel the sadness in his voice. Everyday he used to sing a lot of songs and play the shamisen. Shinji Tanimura and Kyu Sakamoto was among his favorites. I was never really into it, untill now. I'll keep this song as treasure a piece of memory from my beloved Ojiichan

    • He looks more regal at this age than when he was young.. but the strength of his voice.. I think he was at his best when he was in his late 40s to 50s years old.. He was at Shanghai Expo n sang this song representing Japan... still amazing... no one sings this song better than him. The tenderness in his voice... I feel like I want to hug him..

  • I can understand when Mr. Lim Ik Sun, my teacher of Mandarin, English and Japanese, loves this song, SUBARU. The music is melodious and Shinji Tanimura, the singer and songwriter, has a nice and melancholy voice. I can understand even better when I read the English translation of the lyrics. It is romantic and heart touching.

  • To be honest, I did not expect this at all. Such a great voice and marvellous instrumentation. Sign me up as another fan. Who knows it might help with my Japanese lessons as music tends to “stick” far better than basic dialogue. Thank you so much for making this available.

    • @@WorldofMusicLJ happy to do so. To be honest I thought I had but the current KZhead algorithm lined up a bunch of auto play Japanese music, so perhaps that’s why I missed it. If you have any other recommendations I’m open to suggestions.
