CA reworks Empire and Dwarves. Vlad: I'm in trouble. This whole DLC feels like a nightmare for VC in general but a great big FU to Vlad in particular. Which I suppose is ultimately a good sign for the future of Vampires.
Aren't Malakai's adventures just basically the plots of when he hangs out with Gotrek and Felix?
Gyrocopter buffs, I never thought I'd see the day
It's going to be interesting to see how viable they are now given that they used to be fairly meh compared to the rest of the Dawi Roster, and they hate dealing with most fast flying enemies
@@IainDoherty51honest they could be pretty good for aggressive dwarf builds, goblin hewers hit hard and can kill a lot of stuff, slayers push forwards, gyrocopters are able to maneuver well and provide support
What happens if those races, by tge time you reach them, they are already dead?

Cool character with strong mechanics surrounded by hostile factions. This might end up being my favorite campaign in the game.
My issue, as some others have stated, is that The Spirit of Grungni wasn't a Thunderbarge, it was much, much larger and predominantly a vessel for long range transportation. For Grungni's sake it had a hanger bay with several gyrocopters!
Well it's kinda seen here as it is a Base. But yeah can't wait for mods to make it larger.
To be honest, the thunderbarges we are seeing here aren't the standard thunderbarge size, they'd be small for normal thunderbarges, its just that the game is limited in how large a unit can realistically be before you get issues, if the real spirit of grungi was added as it was on the book cover the balloon itself would be so large that to be near the unit you'd have to change camera angels
Maybe it would have been more fitting (lorewise) to get a summon gyrocopters and a cannon barrage with the shadow of the spirit of Grungni above the map (like the Hyperion of Raynor in Heroes of the Storm) to get a gigantic ship without making the game crash. But I like the fact you get them already at the start of the game.
Yeah I think that it is too big to be represented on the battlefield, and that's fine, it can just be Malakai's campaign base of operation, and provide cannonades/bombing/summoned Gyrocopters on the battle map like you say.
@@calebbarnhouse496 Yeah it is too big to be represented realistically. Also I wish the Thunderbarges weren't just wooden ships with a dirigible tied to it, the Dwarves would have built them out of metal, as the Spirit of Grungni is described.

Have to say, Makakai's voice actor sounds great. He sounds like he is geniunely screaming to his fellow dawri at the top of his lungs in the battle speeches

Finally, the Dwarfs are given the respect they are owed! So goddamn excited to play with the new units, mechanics, and Malakai.
Honorable mention to all those great mods of the past years that kept us supulied with quality content: Thunderbarge, the Dawi Thunder Mod, Rune Golems, GHS (Mechas based on gyrocoptors), The Great Mountain Home (Dawi Undercities) and Miners Below. Worth picking up now for game on the weekend before the DLC hits.

Probably the closest I’ll get to having the Kharadon overlords as a playable total war army in terms of tech and air superiority.
I don't think he had a conformed death in the end times... maybe he is the ancestor of that entire faction?

Kharadon Overlords are pretty much just engineer's on steroids. Same with the slayer faction. The dwarf aos factions are just parts of the fantasy roster taken to the extreme

Only thing Im missing is some kinda engineering workshop. Wouldve been sick to have a mechanic where you could build prototope gyroccoptors with weird weapons and such.
I wish Spirit of Grungi was at least like twice as large as regular Thunderbarge in a battlefield.
But then you couldn't see the battle properly, because the thing would occupy half your screen 😆
Increasing model size is not hard to mod - about 2 minutes of work :) Only problem will be even larger hitbox.

@@jansekera3770 you can change the size of the model without changing hitbox, i cant tell you how, but there was a mod for warhammer 2 that did both things, one that made all lords and heros the size of there respective races, and one that did that, but kept the hitboxes the same size
Honestly, this is my only complaint about the Thunderbarge. It looks so crowded on the deck, and in the cabin, like the ship is maybe 50% smaller than it actually should be.
Having one of Malakai’s victory conditions he killing Archaon is so funny to me. Like, the Everchosen or Chaos, Marshal of the Apocalyose, shot to death by a short scottsman with a 12 gauge.

the dwarves needed the additional slayers and gyrocopter buff as well. Both for single and multiplayer to diversify their playstyle without being out of their lore
Wasn't Thorek Ironbrow from The Hammers and Headstones part of Warhammer 2?
This looks really cool, the adventure system is great to get your hands in some powerful units very early on, and I think that's something you would like to have with most faction in some or other way. Maybe like adding some mercenary thematic troops to completing quest battles with Legendary Lords! I also have a couple of issues, like him being in kraka drak, that would mean no more kraka drak mod, unless mixus unlocked moves malakai somewhere else. The other issue is the spirit of grungi, when you said it was so big, I thought it would give bombardment attacks like a black ark, because it's too massive for a battle. But then I see you can summon it. I would much rather have it as a mount for him, unlocked at level 20, 25 or 30 depending on how op it is. But, well, both things can be fixed with mods I suppose.
This will be my first campaign on 5.0 . For rock & stone

What I love most about this DLC so far is, that while im really looking forward to trying out the new campaigns, Im equally hyped to replay old ones like Franz, Gelt, Ungrim or Kugath.

Starts with Gotrek and Felix at the start is very interesting. That should make for a fun campaign.
I love the how the faction focuses on two ends of the spectrum with artillery/warmachine and slayers.
I recommend everyone listen to the Gotrek and Felix books on audible. Stop when the author changes.
...Or simply read them yourself.

My main issue with dwarfs was the unit replenishment and more so the lack of it because of the fact that you couldnt regain troops as soon as you werent in green regions. Im so fucking happy to see the slayer heroes now having the trait.

To be fair, his quests throw you at armies with lots of tier 4 and 5 units, and he’s in a HARD area of the map
A lot of enemies around, and at least Kislev have a stance to avoid the chaos climate penalty in the province, but Malakai?, going to be rough and frustrating to deal with northen chaos.
Dwarfs have underway stance and the abylity to encamp for turns they have to fight a battle, they are gonna be fine
He will make a great vassal for archon. An he will.be dead by turn 20 with my chaos dawi

So artillery and war machine focused, interesting mechanic which have you earn those upgrades with a story battle and the only cost is I can't do gotrek and Felix's quest (I want to do it, but I see the benefit of having them automatically) , I like this

Finally getting unique mechanics for all the legendary lords, can only hope all the old ones eventually get tuned up

Haven't played one more than 10 turns ever an I was only doing it for the beat the game with all races on very hard achievements
Looks like the only thing you can't build on Grungi is the building for Runesmiths and Ironbreakers? Otherwise rest of the roster is there. Seems kinda odd to miss a couple of the units (especially as Ironbreakers are a great end tier frontline and fit the engineer theme a bit with their explosives). Fantastic overall though, he's prbably my number 1 pick for first playthrough now.
I'm looking forward to playing Firepower by Judas Priest as background music while playing this faction. So much dakka!
I think I will play as Malakai... Edit: Having Ulrika for Dwarfs is some nice bonus considering she's pretty good on the battlefield.
I like that his victory conditions work alright with him being a Pseudo-Horde. Last thing i wanted was to be stuck in Norsca all campaign. Could definitely spend my time wandering around while sending other armies to destroy the required factions.
Good place for him to start. Very fun, and now Kislev has help with the shit around them. And the Empire !
Off topic but, I actually sort of miss how Old Hordes work, sure it was a bit scary to have no settlements but it meant always being on the move, and that was fun to be honest. But, Immortal Empires Horde Factions are nice either way, you don’t need a hundred settlements, unless you want them 😂
So no more Norse Dwarfs mod?
My only real complaint so far is his starting position. I always play with Mixu's and the Kraka Drak mod. This also makes the slight possibility of us getting them as a official faction even less likely. :( Oh well, that's what mods are for, assuming Mixu's or the Kraka Drak mod will just move Malakai to Kraka Dum or something?
I also don't like him starting in Kraka Drak. Would've preferred him in Karak Dum or Karak Azorn.

As fan of the Norscan Dwarfs mod, I'm sad that his starting location is in Kraka Drak. I feel like The Mountains of Mourn would have been a way better choice.

Gotta say I love everything of this DLC, but I really feel wronged about not getting any kind of new mount option for dwarfs. No shieldbearers or oathstone, no gyros for engineers or thunderbarge for Malakai. Malakai also rode a gyrocopter for his first encounter in Gotrek and Felix, such wasted potential, and it wouldn't even cost much dev work since they are already in the game
I'm surprised you were fooled into thinking "Malakai's Adventures" was something new and interesting CA worked on. It's a reskinned Norsca monster hunt, minimum effort required as always. I'm actually starting to think they have no senior coders who can write new things and are just getting interns/juniors to cut and paste existing code that the designers can add new assets to as everything since WH3 release is a re-used mechanic with a slightly different look.
Still I am waiting and praying for engineer DLC... with Guild Master as lord with crank gunners, deathrollers, juggernaut, rune golems and rune giant with mechanics for Underway's "undercities" and runecrafting equipment for heroes and lords, and upgrades for regular units. From this DLC, thunderbarge, doomseekers and grudgerakers are nice addition. Age of reckoning looks cool.

Only thing I hope for him is CA fixing Pseudo-hoard character when Confederate and you play other factions. Those lord with build in pseudo will keep them even when you play as other faction.
Isn't that the whole point, that their pseudo-hoard is tied to the lord rather than the faction? If I want to get Malakai, I will want the Spirit of Grungi, dammit!
All these changes are making me wonder about Belegar and his unique building in 8-Peaks. Does it still work the same and is it only limited to him? It could totally be a legendary grudge unlock that you just have to control Belegar to finish.
They need to do this to Wulfrik's campaign so isn't stuck in boring Norsca.

Too much powercreep for sure, but damn this is looking like possibly the best patch and dlc content in the warhammer total war series. Great job on this, I am definitely buying the entire dlc.
why doesnt malakai get a gyrocopter or thundernbarge mount i feel like thats a huge missed oppertunity
