Exploring the Original Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London

I visit the original Madame Tussauds in London. The museum's history dates back to the 18th century when Madame Marie Tussaud, a French artist, created her first wax figure in 1777. She later moved to London in 1802 and established her first permanent exhibition in the city in 1835. I really enjoyed this wax museum, and the interactive ride was the best part!

  • Loved how they had the wax figures out so the public can take pictures. They need a wax figure of you walking with the visitors holding your gear and stuff just like you are filming a live...that would be so 2023. ❤

  • Thank you for the tour. It must be over 50 years since I went there and memory tells me it only featured standing figures back then. Times change. I believe the theatre where you couldn't film used to be the Planetarium and they've combined the two buildings.

  • That was so impressive - thank you so much for taking us along. I went years ago to the one in LA, or maybe it was Las Vegas - anyway, not nearly as big or impressive - although all the wax figures really looked authentic. This one - wow - so fun. Was surprised to see all the steps to go up / down.

  • Tussaud's featured public figures such as actors, politicians and the like when I visited in late 1982. After standing in line outside, the trip through didn't take long, and I was underwhelmed. There were no elaborate sets. There were no fictional characters, as I recall, and the figures were grouped according to their profession or activity. Some of the faces did not match their photos very well, and the complexions were all waxy-looking, so that leathery old politicians and Hollywood ingenues had the same skin texture. Today, I wonder how all the displays were shoe-horned into the space and how folks would escape if the place were on fire.

Like atmosphere, people , social system (if you made your research on tat too), laws ...?? One time asked an English lady ,she told me for her, New York is "boring" , compared to London. I never been to U.S.A. ,can not have some issues . I am curious. Thank you . (Maybe you can move to U.K. ine day 🙃) all the Best 👍

  • It should be remembered that London doesn’t have a “downtown” as London is made up of lots of cities, towns, villages and even hamlets, some of which have existed since Roman times or since the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms that predate the creation of the Kingdom of England in 927 and over the centuries have been incorporated legally, politically and geographically into London from their original surrounding counties as the boundaries of London have been moved further out from the original walled City of London of around 350 acres. Therefore each of them has a High Street (Main Street) at its centre from which spread out its own suburbs. Therefore since the last Act of Parliament come into force on 1st April 1965, London has consisted of the City of London (1.12 square miles) and the 32 London Boroughs (some 606 square miles) that make up London. Therefore London is about twice the size of New York City’s 5 boroughs but both have a similar population, which makes NYC have a higher population density. The town in south-east London were I was born was, before 1st April 1965, a part of the county of Kent and before 927 was a part of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Kent. However from 1st April 1965 it became the capital town of the London Borough of Bromley, London’s largest borough at some 59 square miles. Most of the borough still feels like part of Kent as it had mostly villages and some hamlets plus lots of farmland and common land (most if its commons are owned and maintained by Bromley London Borough Council, but one of them is owned and maintained by the Corporation of the City of London, despite being some 12 miles from London Bridge).
