Hey Bud, Funny thing is I had most all this last fall but the sled didn't come in till the middle of March so I finally get to install everything that's been collecting dust for a year now. 🤣 North of us has been getting snow but here I'm losing my snow fast as it's 38 degrees right now and the grass is starting to show now. 😫Take Care and think cold and snow..
I went with the TD setup, I will be getting some PEFI accessory parts though. I also got the full clutch setup from Ron ward, torsion secondary conversion and new get set. 21/41
Hey Shnill, Nice !!👍🏼 Precision EFI makes some nice, quality products. You running a Sidewinder or T-cat? What's the 21/41 do for you over stock? More top end, or better low/midrange?
Another nice video. I been running the cluster tune now for a couple of years now. Most of the time I run it on 225 or 240. The 21-41 is the stock gearing on the Sidewinder. The Cats come with the 24-50 gears, should accelerate hard.
Hey Edward, That's great to hear you've been running those tunes for a couple years. 👍🏼I'm planning on running the 225 at first until Dave from Hurricane performance gets me the proper weight figures for the primary. Because Cat added the new ADAPT clutch for '22, Dalton made new adjustable weight arms (QA3) for the ADAPT. www.daltonindustries.com/product_detail.php?product_id=344 Dave hasn't tested these yet. As soon as there's snow he's going to test a set and let me know what weight I need to add for the 240 & 270 tunes. I bought the Hurricane Trail muffler and a Decibel meter to run tests on the stock vs the Trail mufflers at idle, 2500 rpm's and 5000 rpms to see the differences in sound. After I do some testing on the trail muffler I'll decide if I'm going to run the 225 tune with SM or PM tune. I also purchased the closed loop system with the AEM.
@@SometimeIsNow I am just running the SM tunes. I run mostly on the 225 or 240. I have it clutched so I can run either of them. I have run the 270 but, I have to add weight when I run it. I could probably clutch it to run the 240 and 270. The closed loop system should help on fuel mileage. I am interested to see how the trail muffler works and how loud it is, and how that Cat ADAPT clutch works out.
@@edwardspross9760 I believe the Hurricane 225 tune with SM can run on 87 octane while the 240 tune runs even more efficiently with the closed loop system installed and 91 octane. Almost everywhere I ride typically only sells 91 octane, non ethanol fuel on trail, so the 87 part doesn’t really matter to me around here. I do like the thought of the closed loop monitoring air/fuel and adjusting all the time for ambient temps and conditions. As soon as we get some more snow on the ground I’ll pull the sled out and do the initial testing with the SM to get my baseline readings. More to come buddy 👍🏼 Take Care
Great Video! I have not yet ridden my 2023 Sidewinder LTX GT- EPS, I also have a 2011 APEX with 20 K miles on it (Super Reliable) keeping that as a backup sled! My Apex keeps up wiith my riding buddies Sidewinders (Pretty Quick Sleds) and they both have the 270 HP tune ( you can only go so fast around corners). I would think a Stock Sidewinder/ Thundercat is fast enough? How much is involved in a 225 HP upgrade , and how much does it cost? Thanks!
Hey Thanks Robert, I use to have a new 2006 Apex GT and loved that motor for how smooth it was. So smooth w/Zero vibration. A stock T-cat/Sidewinder is plenty fast but I love the feel of how hard it pulls when you want to grab more throttle with a tune. Flashing the 998 to 225hp is easy. As long as you don’t want to go any higher than 225hp that’s all you will need to do for to the sled. Just locate a dealer near you and have the sled flashed. I bought the flasher so I can go back to stock if needed for any reason. The 225hp flash is $393.75 plus whatever a dealer charges to flash your sled. If you want the flasher that’s another $525 and you do it yourself. Take Care

@@BroBob1254 Hey Robert, According to Dave at Hurricane Performance, he states the 998 Yamaha engine is very reliable up to 300hp easily with zero failures for him. 👍🏼

@@BroBob1254 I'm not very familiar with Arctic Cats 2 stroke engines. I think their not bad, just behind for power output but the Yamaha four stroke was the best thing that ever happened to AC when they fit that motor into the T-Cat and Sidewinder

Hey Kranky, The 3 Bar map sensor replaces the stock map sensor allowing to read up to 28PSI of boost. 😉Spoiler alert.. yes... it's going to have Hurricane Performance cluster tune setup. 😁 Take Care buddy

It's on its way. !! I just got the software loaded into the laptop, the hurricane flasher hooked to the cat and It just pulled all the info Hurricane needs to be sent off to them. Now I wait for the return email with all my flashes. 😉
Does the BOV make a big difference in the sound when stock?
Hey Duramax_Yamahguy, Thanks for stopping by the channel to check out the video. I didn’t hear any difference in the sound of the BOV from stock due to how Yamaha routes the excess boost pressure back into the intake plentum. When I changed the stock muffler to the Hurricane Performance trail exhaust I could hear the turbo whoosh wooosh whoosh noise I assume you’re looking for. Take Care. 🤙🏼

That just shows how uninformed you are Marky Mark about the Yamaha motors and tunes..😁 I'll bet you lunch you take more fuel than I do after I'm done with this sled. I'm installing a closed loop system on it and it'll get 20% better fuel economy than stock so I'm thinking I'll get a nice fish dinner with all the fixings buddy.. Start saving up your money 🤣😂
Wow I better ride the 600 when we ride then. We know these 900’s aren’t great on mpg.
@@marklenartowicz8161 Yup. You better keep your 900 in ECO mode or ride the 600 etec. I know I can't beat the 600 fuel milage but if Hurricane is correct on their 20% better fuel economy I'll be happy with that.. 🤞🏼
Are try to get more out of an already powerful motor? Yamaha motors are proven reliable and powerful. Now that they are in an Arctic Cat chassis. There is a guy in Minnesota that put over 50,000 miles on a Vector in 2 years.
Yes Sir.. IMO you'll have your Cat haters as I've found out since I've owned this but anyone that knows these motors can't argue that it's pretty much bulletproof and reliably tunable up to 325hp without any major motor upgrades. I'm not going that much as I still want to trail ride it. I went with the 225, 240 and 270 tunes with a Closed Loop system, like a modern car engine. It'll adjust Air/Fuel as needed for temps and Hurricane claims 20% better fuel economy with the 240hp tune. All on 91 octane. So we'll see this season. If anything it's just great content for the channel. Oh, I don't doubt there's guys out there with the Yamaha engines that have that many if not more miles easily. Take Care ❄❄
@@SometimeIsNow right on brother! I have always been a fan of Yamaha. I think they have excellent technology, and they are very durable and long lasting. I have rode several Yamaha snowmobile‘s, but for me it’s the seat I don’t like. I just can’t get comfortable riding with their seat. The older ones just sit down too low and the seats are way too soft. But as far as the actual machine, I would have to put them in my top two. Arctic Cats are good, and I have owned one. They are not in my top two however. I went with skidoo mainly because of the 4stroke and the affordable price. I was also aware of the comfortable riding position that they have. That is what sold me on a skidoo. I could not get the same features in any other machine. Now that I’ve owned one for nearly 10 years in two different models, It is hard for me to go to something else. I love my Renegade XRS with the 900 ACE turbo. No other brand has a four stroke engine, and a chassis and equipped the same way as skidoo. If I was looking at a two-stroke, I would give Polaris a very hard look. Here is how I would rank them personally; 1 Skidoo 2 Yamaha 3 Artic Cat 4 Polaris I would take a very serious look at a Thundercat if they upgrade the instrument panel. I live in a state where two of the four main snowmobiles are manufactured. I have never owned a Polaris but would consider it. I like Arctic Cat but both got edged out by Skidoo. It is all in what each person prefers. Competition is great for the industry and fuels the need for better products. It is amazing how much they have evolved since my first ride on one.
@@justflylow Yes, Yamaha has IMO thee best 4 stroke motor, even over BRP’s 900T. Don’t get me wrong, Skidoo’s 900 is an amazing motor but if you’re a guy who likes quick, easy HP there’s not much you can do in terms of cheaply modding the 900T engine without dropping around $ 7k. Especially if you want to see 250+ hp out of the Skidoo. When Skidoo locked aftermarket performance shops out of their ECU’s it just became even more expensive. Performance shops are now getting $2500 just to unlock the ECU so you can tune it or you can buy a new ECU for $2700 and go from there. I see you mentioned that you have been riding Skidoo for 10 years now. Other than the 1 yr I jumped ship to try a new 2006 Yamaha Apex GT Ive been on Skidoo since 1997 with the 800 Mach Z. I’ve been with Skidoo for so long I was starting to get bored with them. Even with all of Skidoo’s improvements over the years It was like buying the same truck year after year after year. I wanted to try something different but never really left Skidoo until last season when Arctic Cat came out with the EPS on the Thundercat. I’ve never owned an Arctic Cat before. This is my first. I’ve noticed there are alot of Cat faithful that were bored and getting very upset with AC for using the same Procross chassis since 2012, but for me it’s a brand chassis because I’ve never owned one. As for the upgraded gauge on the Skidoo, that’s a disappointment compared to Polaris’s 7S display. They definitely have the top gauge package. I tried ordering a new ‘23 Polaris XCR 650 w/ the 7S for my wife but they sold out so fast, I didn’t have a “in” with any dealers to get one so I lost out. Skidoo has definitely got a nice shock package with the smart shocks as I’ve rode the new Mach Z of Brads many times and it rides very nice. I just didn’t want to buy another Skidoo.. I wanted to try something different other than Skidoo to make Snowmobiling exciting again and I can say….. the power of that Yamaha 998 motor and the Power steering did just that. I love the T-cat so far 👍🏼 Take care
@@SometimeIsNow I haven’t always been an avid Rider. My first snowmobile was a 1984 John Deere Sprintfire 340 liquid cooled. I rode it for several years and then sold it. It was a number of years before I bought another one which was a 1999 Arctic cat panther 440 with a two up seat. I bought that mainly for fishing. It was kind of a beast to ride on the trails. I owned it for about 13 years and then bought my first skidoo, which was a MXZ 600 Ace. That is when I started falling in love again with trail riding. And I had that one until I bought my 21 Renegade XRS with a 900 ACE turbo. I think it would take something spectacular to have me want to trade up. But there are a lot of options out there now, including the Thundercat, which is very appealing with the EPS. Take care, buddy!
