Sedans That Can Last Over 200,000 Miles OR Even More

With both used and new car prices soaring, it just makes sense to look into one that can last seemingly forever. And reliability and longevity of a car are becoming more important than ever, if you are in the market for a used-car.
Our focus today is on sedans that are able to really go the distance, say for 200,000 miles or even more. While they're far less popular than SUVs, some sedans have enjoyed a long reign as the most popular cars in America, proving these affordable, fuel-efficient and still-practical vehicles remain in demand.
According to iSeeCars study, which analyzed over 14.9 million cars sold in 2021 to determine which models best demonstrate longevity and reliability with the highest percentage of sedans reaching 200,000 miles or more.

    • problem with carollas is finding a good stick...my '97 automatic is gutless and gets poor gas mileage, but it did make it to 190k before the first 4 digit repair job and has done well since... civics have always been good to me and they never lack for power, I can't think of a better car value for safety+reliability+responsiveness+economy...however buying them used can be tricky because a lot of people abuse them (I've seen the same issue is pretty common here with acura legends) the 1990 accord ran great and was still running great near 300k, minus a few starter issues, but had those annoying automatic drink dumpers that go back and forth every time you turn the key or open or close your door...which forced the move to a 1999 accord which is still moving right along with 365k after some 4 digit transmission and starter work 10 years ago... my favorite car was my '83 accord, which got 35 to 38 mpg and ran so smooth I had to really watch because a couple times on straight portions of isolated freeway crossing the country I thought I was doing 75 and I may have been well into the three digits...it stopped running so well to the day california came out with their unique gas formulation and the mileage instantly dropped into the mid 20s (but I drove it in other states and it miraculously drove better and got 35+)

My only American car was a 2000 Lincoln LS that I purchased in 03 with 50000 miles. Traded it in in 2015 with 267000 miles. The only major issue was the air conditioner was out during trade in. • @@ssjlkrillin That's one of the main reasons why I've made it a point to learn how to maintain my own car. Unfortunately, the most I can do is change my brake pads and my rotors. And on my previous vehicle, changing the spark plugs was very easy. I would have learned how to change my own oil, but I don't have a jack that can get my car high enough for me to get under it.

Although a different revision of the 3.5L (vq35de) my 04 g35x climbed to 200k rather easily. By that time the power steering was kind of a mess but for relatively low maintenance and me throwing in cheap Walmart oil as it burned it off (common 3.5 issue) throwing on 15k miles of a 50/50 mix of highway/in town per year while I had it was relatively headache free. Going back to the Avalon. I now have a 2016 Avalon hybrid limited, purchased in 2019 with 60k miles and now at 110k miles the thing still feels and drives like how it was when I first got it (which I assume was similar to how it was brand new. Still pounding on the miles on the thing while getting great gas mileage. The only thing that has happened in the past 50k miles was maybe a lower control arm that got messed up or something. To be honest can’t even remember if that was even what it was since it was covered by the Toyota platinum warranty I got so I honestly didn’t pay too much attention. Overall the cost to maintain has been dirt cheap. The 2.5L hybrid system from Toyota although not the subject of this video, imo is the best drivetrain they have. Solid balance between power and efficiency, all while being reliable.

Changing it at 145 000 miles and not blowing the engine up (if it is true) has little to do with the car itself, and everything to do with luck. Chevy, ford and dodge are all junk and wont go past 150k miles without major issues and repairs, 100% going to have to replace that AC unit before 150k if you live here in Texas and it's going to cost you at least $2k if it's not under warranty. • Some Japanese cars from the 90s seem to be immortals, and it’s normal to see them on Philippine roads daily: 7th Gen Toyota Corollas (91-around 97/98), 4th Gen Mitsubishi Lancers (91-95), 6th Gen Honda Civic (95-2000), and 3rd Gen Nissan Sentra (B13, 90-95). Seeing models a generation before or after of these cars I mentioned isn’t a rare sight as well. I personally own a Nissan 1994 Sentra B13 with 150k+ mi/240k+ kms on the odo and it’s still driving smoothly, still with its stock radiator and compressor that delivers good A/C. So far the only major replacement part it’s had is a new carburetor which made running even better with better fuel mileage.

  • 2009 Toyota Camry 2.4 aka oil burner currently @ 216,000 miles, 70 miles a day still runs like a champ. Uses around 4 ounces of oil per 1,000 miles. Have not replaced anything on the drive line or steering system. I did replace the radiator & valve cover gasket @ 191,000 miles and have replaced the headlight assemblies twice due to glazing. Other things have been normal wear items like brakes, batteries, light bulbs, spark plugs, etc. Everything still works like it should. We'll see how long it goes.

    • If you start adding marvel mystery oil about 6 to 8 oz to an oil change the engine will last longer and it will clean and free sticking rings.. I use it in all my new vehicles which are always Toyota's and Hondas.

    • @@charlesjackson1700 Yeah I use Marvel as well in the Camry once a month in the gas. I also use it in the gas of my motorcycles, snowblower, generator etc. It helps keep the carbs clean for which I do run non ethanol fuel in. We used to have a chevy equinox with the 2.5 4 cylinder that burned oil way more than the Camry. I ran a full bottle of Marvel in the oil of the equinox and it did decrease the oil consumption drastically but only for a short time. I would imagine if I had done it more it may have prolonged it. We sold the equinox not long ago. As for the Camry, only using around 2/3's of a quart of oil every 5,000 miles is not bad. Plus I am waiting to see if the oil consumption is going to reduce anymore just using Amsoil otherwise I would use Marvel. Also I am gonna start to push the oil drain interval some to see if the oil consumption stays the same, gets better or starts to get worse. I picked this Camry up for cheap so I don't mind seeing how Amsoil is going to do with time. I know people have mixed feelings about using Amsoil which is understandable. For me it has worked out good. It is the most expensive if you buy it by the quart at retail but if you get a preferred account it gets 25% cheaper by the quart and then gets cheaper than that if you buy it in larger quantity. I use the 0w20 in 3 Toyotas currently. The last time I purchased Amsoil 0w20 I bought a drum of it which worked out to be $8.55 a quart. Of course oil has gone up in price since then but being I have a drum of it I will not need to buy oil for a while. Hopefully the price of oil will come down when I need to get more. We'll see.

    • @@dooflicker1 Glad to see someone that knows that Marvel Mystery is a good product.. Those Camrys from the 2007 through 2009 had those engines that were known for burning oil and many of those were replaced under warranty.. The one you have is still running well.. and not consuming that much oil. The Marvel mystery oil will definitely keep the rings clean and keep them from sludging up and sticking. It would have been good if it could have been used from the start. I know the price of oil has skyrocketed as well along with gas. I know a lot of people swear that by that Amisol oil. It is very expensive. You take care of your vehicles that's for sure.

Dont race or push her hard, and you will be fine. I bought my rt with 50 thousand miles, and she still runs like a champion.

  • I have a 21 300 Touring L and I'm loving it. The Vehicle is very Refined and that 8 speed Torque Flight Transmission has it feeling Quick and Sporty. Also the car is crazy nimbel for its size with incredible Throttle Response. And as far as reliability goes with that Powertrain it's definitely Underated. The Pentastar had some early issues, but is now on it's 3rd Generation and is holding up overtime. And the people that are maintaining them are saying that even with High Mileage the power isn't diminishing. And the ZF 8 Speed is one of, if not the best Trans in the world right now. For about 8 years Chrysler/ Dodge was the only Domestic Auto maker to use it. But the likes of Bentley, RR,Ashton Martin and Mercedes to name a few, have been using that exact Transmission for over a decade in a lot of their Vehicles.

    • My wife just bought a used Jeep Wrangler with the Pentastar V6 and 6 speed manual. Pentastar is supposed to be a great and reliable motor. 6 speed manual is a good solid trans. Having owned Dodges in the past, I'm a bit apprehensive about buying any Chrysler product nowadays. They have made some solid motors in the recent past, but their automatic trans are a bit scary, however the ZF is very good. I have a 2003 neon SRT-4 still with original motor and turbo (2.4L 4 Cylinder), 5 speed manual, and over 220k miles, still runs good. Motor and trans are nearly bulletproof. The problem with Chrysler is they cheap out on the smaller stuff and use cheap parts and they start to nickel and dime you to death. Plus they are notorious for water leaks, especially if you have a sunroof. My neon SRT has a bad case of clearcoat fail and has rust spots in both rear fenders. And of course, some of their automatic transmissions the past 30 years have been complete garbage.
