    • As per usual, you have made yet another great video! Unfortunately, no pick set or practice lock was gifted to me for Christmas, but as my birthday is today, the mail has yet to come, so I'm not sure if I'll be getting some or not, but considering not many know that I'm into locksport, I doubt it. I would be thrilled if you happen to have a practice lock and a decent pick set(hopefully with some type of Ratyolk pick and tok wrenches) that you would consider selling to me, that would be an awesome birthday gift! I'd pay for shipping as well if you'd consider it. Thanks for your great work and I hope you have an awesome 2020!

I do have a question for you: Are you familiar with the grimworkshop tool line? They have some rather innovative solutions for carrying various types of tools in small, easy to conceal packages. I am curious to know what your opinion is of their lock picking tools as I am considering adding them to my SHTF gear.

    • To be fair I only bother locking my house locks now because they prevent the disoriented methheads up the street from getting in and to make sure for that extra ten years if someone does break in. I've seen the so-called best of the best locks picked in less than ten seconds. I have no faith in any lock anymore. It's the sight of a lock that keeps most people out and to that end I don't see the point in shelling out for anything other than the cheap locks. They all seem to provide the same protection.

  • Should also be noted that when single-pin picking, one pin will bind at a time because when these cores were manufactured, the holes that house the pin stacks aren’t in a perfectly-straight line. They’re slightly misaligned, making one pin to be the first to bind. Then the next pin will bind and so forth. More tension is helpful because it provides better feedback to a skilled picker. A very stiff tension tool is also helpful to provide the picker with maximum feedback. Think of a shock absorber on a car. The springiness dampens feedback. You want the opposite of feedback dampening when picking single pins. Slow down. Pay attention to what you feel and hear. Happy picking🤗

    @bitfinesse@bitfinesse3 жыл бұрын
    • I was thinking there must be some play in the mechanism so that the first pin stays lined up after you have picked it and you move onto your next pin. Am I right in thinking that pins need to feel the pressure from the tension tool before they will stay in position after being lined up (picked).

Used them for my car, any locks around the house or at work (for things I was suppose to have access to), and the house itself (I didn’t carry my house keys). However, they were made from hacksaw blades and my father eventually told me to cut out using them on the door locks as they were hard enough they were starting to wear the pins.

  • Not to forget: if a lock is bad enough, master locks for example: everything is a raking tool! Because there is no point in doing anything also rake 2-15 seconds and it's open. Amazon reviews for those are a joke. People with no clue praise the companies marketing. Pickers do everything from rating 1 star for security to rating 5 stars sarcastically.

  • I've had a history of being locked out of my own home and recently it happened again. This is how i stumbled on to this video. I didn't want my wife and I locked out of our home with our pets inside. It was crazy how much lock smith was charging to come out to help us get into our home. Figured i would look more into lockpicking and after this, maybe get good at it and make a side business out of it (and not charge people 400+dollars either). Thank you for this, maybe I'll get as good at lockpicking as the fictional master of unlock (Jill Valentine for Resident Evil fans out there). Seems kind of fun hobby to pick up. I got a question though; how do you know when a lockpick will break? Is there any kind of damage to the lock and is it possible to get it out? I ask this because one day i will need to unlock my house if i forget the keys again.

    • Lock Noob has an entire video on why you shouldn’t pick some locks, including the ones in use on your own home. Picks eventually fail due to metal fatigue, and it tends to be sudden. You can try getting the tip out with an extractor, but if it doesn’t cooperate, you may end up having to call a locksmith or drill out the core. See above.

    • Mastermuaz7 This is a very enjoyable hobby. I’m away from home this weekend with one of my lock pick sets but forgot to take any of my practice locks and this video helped me feel some of the satisfaction of picking a lock open! Lock Noob gives great advice. Don’t pick a lock you depend on - I picked my front door lock and opened it but it didn’t work afterward and I thought I had ruined.it. I called my local locksmith and he said before he comes to my house to put the key in it and turn it back and that fixed it. I was too new to know that a padlock core goes back without the key but not my front door lock! My son even used his skill to open a friend’s storage shed when they lost the key.

I just bought a kit on a whim and the instructions make so little sense as they're obviously translated 'You need practice for many times' and '...you need to eject the lock tool up slowly till a little voice is heard', but this video helped get the principals across really well. Also it's amazed me how easy it actually is to do this, I opened the practice padlock before I read any instructions, within about a minute, and assumed they'd just made it very easy. Immediately tried on a proper padlock and opened that within a minute too. Now I'm hooked.
