While it is rare these days, I do from time to time take the Train out to ride some routes I’ve not done before. This was a memorable one because of this amazing descent.
Also a little bit of a recap and a few tips on how you’d bring a bike on a train, from local trains to the bullet trains, aka Shinkansen

That's a tasty treat.
💀No mistakes!💨
@6:25 80s pop synth, noice! Just the pickup i needed 👍
The best decennium for music hehe
Hmmmmmmm 😊 Some classic Rides of Japan content, right here. Thank you for taking us along!
There is nothing better than lunch break and a Harakiri ride on the coast of Izu and easy listening music! 😉
Enjoying Rides of Japan an I love riding my XC924 Light Bicycle wheelset as well.
Enjoy the sunshine, looked like a lovely ride and well worth an early start. Thanks for the strava link, tells a bit more of the story. Nearest mountain road to me is 3000km away so I enjoyed the vicarious descending!
Definitely need to visit this this month. I'm mostly riding around Kyoto with it's fair share of nice routes, but this looks pretty fun.
That was GLORIOUS !
Great video! My ears popped just watching
Thanks for the treat!
SUPERNICE!!! Thank you for all your inside knowledge and tips 👍🙏Will bring my bike for the next Japan trip 😍
11:04 'fatuige' -->> when your mouth dies from chewing rubber noodles!
Hot damn what a punch in the gut of 懐かしい that was. Thanks for this.
5:10 those cars!
Stunning!
love it. just love it. a wonderful descent!
This was extremely pleasurable, I wish there was a jaw drop emoji :)
...der frühe vogel fängt den Wurm! German saying
Cool beans! Love the soundtrack at the end. Also trying to grow a cycling channel. Hopefully one day will reach this level.
I absolutely adore this video 🥰😍❤️
Love that ti bike...
I'm pretty fond of it too!
West Izu Skyline is always a blast.
Landing in Japan this Friday and I'll be cycling Nagano/Gifu prefecture with a mate for a week. I'm bringing my bike (we are hiring a van). I'll have a Scicon bag. Be taking the Shinkansen from Tokyo Station to Ueda - hopefully no issues
Nice use of the corner mirrors
Great stuff as usual!!
Cheers mate!
I need to make it over to Shizuoka (and Nagano.. and so many areas) for riding. Nara/Kyoto has its fair share of great rides, though.
Some day I'll make it over to your area as well. There's basically no place that has "bad" rides in this blessed country 😂
Can't say if the new bars match the frame, but they do look clean AF while you're riding
Yay!
Great video as always, Have you done the UFO line in Shikoku? If not put it on your bucket list. There is a terrific 150km loop from Saito Shi.
I have not, so so many areas I've not been to yet (despite the stupid channel name)
Awesome footage as always. Not surprising that super-clean Japan (so I've heard) requires you to put the bike in a bag on the train! BTW, what width are those bars? Thanks!
38mm. Cheers!
Video and editing quality is epic. What camera+lens did you film with?
Don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or not haha… it is as basic as it gets everything is filmed with DJI action 4, all internal, auto exposure, straight cuts. No movie magic 😅 Cheers!
@@ridesofjapan Great work, dji!
@@ridesofjapan Tobias! Only someone who has reached your level of production skill while keeping their feet firmly on the ground (i.e., zero inflated ego) could jump to the conclusion that they're being criticised, not praised! 😂 You are clearly very talented, on top of being hard working. You're possibly an extreme perfectionist who only sees the flaws in their own work. We, on the outside, see excellent results informed by superlative creative instincts. Keep on doing what you're doing.
@@RedshiftDougal Cheer mate, I appreciate the kind words. As most Swedes, we're not good at taking compliments... I think it's a DNA thing ;)
❤
Pretty bicycle
Did you hit Baird Brew Co. for a cold one after?! 🍺
Thank you for all your great videos! The bag you use in Shinkansen in a Fairmean one? I guess you use another bag for the saddle. Does it fit Shinkansen rules? I have a bag that covers all the bike but I'm interested in the Fairmean bag and just want make sure it fits strict Japan train rules.
Saddle cover is included with the Fairmean
Great video! You should display the speed.
I really really want to do this with my Emonda. But Jules said the current version of the firemen rinko bag still does not support a bicycle that can't fully turn the handlebar. I hate my current rinko bag that needs to disassemble front and rear wheels :(
You are very fast.
Are you still on your THM clavicula SE? I am giving up on mine... Det blir glapp efter 200 mil och behöver justera preload igen. Blir så trött! Har du upplevt samma? Får spänna hårt för att undvika glappet men då spinner det inte så bra (BBinfinite WS2 ceramic coated). Dränkt skruvarna i loctite 243.
question: does the Avian Falcon have a noticable flare? (like the gravel handlebars)
5degree flare
Hate when my brakes fail!
What computer mount are you using with the Avian Canary's?
kzhead.info/sun/f5eteaqKooyFZo0/bejne.htmlsi=n-yKunyp9gfGlXvT
Did you change a handlebar on titanium bike? And what tape is this?
Still same tape as in the build video, most superlight Bars are avaian canary
2:34 I actually thought you were taking the time to wipe your computer screen . . . 🤭🤭🤭
As I understand Edge 530 RIP. Any arguments why you have moved to 1040?
That was years ago now. Main reason is better battery life and multi-band gps
@@ridesofjapan Quite curious on your map screen. My Edge 840 only allows up to 2 extra data screens, yours looks like it has around 6. Is it a custom Connect IQ field? Looks pretty nice when doing random exploring.

@@ridesofjapan Thanks! This is definitely something I'd be using a lot.
Thank you! You climbn't? A climbing clip would be even bonusier;-)))
Unless it’s on a pro level, watching people climb is very very boring 😜
Is that (a.k.a "F**k carbon") Mark riding with you?
Nope, Mark has retired from cycling (not really, but almost😅) This fella is Darragh the magnificent ✌️
ой йо йой? -)
alksjdhfals.dfbuhawbef Shinkansen doesn't stop at Shimbashi!! You're thinkin' Shinagawa!
Doh!!!
