Forgot to mention that becoming the Dragon Warrior was never Tai Lung's dream, it was Shifu's. He said himself, all he ever wanted was to make Shifu proud. This clearly explain why he was never meant to be the DW, Tai Lung was fufilling somebody elses' destiny instead of his own.

It was actually Tai Lung’s dream. Because Shifu never said he was destined for being the dragon warrior, he said he was destined for greatness. It then said that wasn’t enough for him and wanted the dragon warrior position so badly darkness consumed him. Does Shifu hold some responsibility? Yes, but not to the extent of Tai Lung becoming a villain. Tai Lung CHOSE that path himself

Which bring us to the moment where Oogway told him about his illusion of control. Shifu putted him through all hard training and wanted him to be the DW so bad that he didn't realized that this was Oogway decision and not his. This is clearly Oogway reminded him the last time that he tried to force someone into a path that it wasn't meant his.

But it was never enough for him (Tai Lung), he eagerly sought for the dragon scroll.” Shifu never told him he was destined to be the dragon warrior, Tai Lung dreamed it. Shifu put him through tough training as tough training is required by anyone to learn kung-fu. Shifu never said he was the dragon warrior He did not force him on the path to lay waste to the valley for revenge, Tai Lung chose that himself. Again Shifu deserves some responsibility and he admitted it, Tai Lung becoming a villain was Tai Lung’s own choice, Shifu did not make him a villain

Source: There was no "dragon scroll". It was a test made by Oogway for Tai Lung. It doubled as a test of self-confidence (for Po). Shifu himself never even knew the scroll was blank! Oogway saw the need for the test from the beginning. Shifu loved Tai Lung like a son, but he was also blinded by his pride. It fed Tai Lung's ego. So, Oogway made the test without telling Shifu its purpose. Oogway died without changing the test. The scroll was always a test of humility for Tai Lung, but it was just a blank scroll. To Po, it just meant there was no "key" to being someone special. Proof: Oogway did NOT make the test to teach Tai Lung self-confidence!!! The whole reason for the test was because Shifu taught Tai Lung everything but humility! Oogway came up with the test during Tai Lung's training, and saw its true purpose after he chose Po, right before he died.

It does make sense because Tai Lung was hard working mastered a thousand scrolls and was trained in the Art of Kung Fu since childhood. Tai Lung was the closest candidate to the Dragon Warrior so it wouldn’t make sense if the reason was “there’s someone better than him.” It was likely that if Tai Lung accepted this and learned his lesson he would have completed his test and became the TRUE dragon warrior.

Yea Tai Lung is one of those villains I’ve felt sorry for especially since his potential is so high and literally he got the Anakin Skywalker treatment to go with that. Po showed humility even when nobody including Shifu didn’t believe he was capable of being the dragon warrior and proved why Lung wasn’t the one. Still one of the best written villains in Dreamworks history

Po was raised humbly in a Noodle shop by a great dad. Teaching him the right values. Tai Lung was pushed by Shifus ego to dedicate his entire life training for a great destiny. Also Shifu was alsi his FATHER. Rotten children are the product of bad parenting. Then grow into bad Adults. Shifus parenting was filling Tais head with dreams and a goal. Then push him day and night to master all the scrolls and techniques Shifu knew for that goal. Shifu says it himself. "I have always been proud. It was my pride that blinded me to what you became. To what i was turning ylu into." He never bothered instilling humility and other core lessons into his son. Only training and the glorious destiny at the end of the painful road.

I kinda agree. Before they were running for the title of "dragon warrior", both Po and Tai Lung were the best fighters (tai lung is, po comes later) and both of them were rejected. That was a test on how they will react to it. Tai Lung became furious while Po keeps his head up and continue to be better to be worthy of the title. Thats why Oogway chooses Po.

I like this assessment of tai lung and that certainly makes sense. Even though Po was ultimately chosen as the dragon warrior instead of tai lung I can certainly see that master ugway wanted to see how he could handle rejection and could he rise up to quell that dark nature in his heart without letting it consume him.

Kung fu panda through space and time: Time is messed up because Lung is not the dragon warrior so Po has to go back in time and try to convince him to take the scroll but understand why he wasn’t given the scroll and fight himself. Or...have Shifu his FATHER parent. Its his job raising Tai to teach him morals and values. There is the old saying. There are no bad students. Only bad teachers. Shifus tale is that until KFP2 he is only good at teaching the physical aspects of the art. His first student and son is tge embodyment of that. He pushed tai to ve the ultimate fighter, without traching him the spiritual or mental aspects you need along with it. No Shaolin Monk would freak out like that. Only an individual whos head was filled with ego and dreams. With big goals. Bjt never been prepaired to be denied in the end. Or to be contempt with who you are.

As much as I like the theory, I still not agree with it. Po was meant to be the Dragon Warrior since the beginning , long before any Master knew him. In the Third Movie Oogway said he saw the future of Kung Fu after seeing Po for the first time. And the legend of the Warrior in Black and White is also a Legend from a Past long ago. Also the Fact that Po learned Kung Fu incredible fast and surpasses everyone in the Series in just Weeks or Months and all other Masters have to learn Kung Fu for Years proves it. When it comes to Tai Lung, they thought he would be the Dragon Warrior but they got proved wrong.

"Dragon Warrior" was only ever a title. Tai Lung thought it was a direct power up. He gave up on the dream. Same with Tigress, who worked the hardest, only to give up on it when Po was chosen. I think the lesson was perseverance. Perseverance makes the dragon warrior.

That actually makes sense looking at it from that perspective. But what also was his downfall was Shifu not at least in his opinion, defending him. However you could argue that too was a part of those final test, as sometimes even those closest to you may not always have your back and you have to learn to adapt in that situation too, as horrible as may be, and he simply couldn’t. I think that’s also maybe why he didn’t understand when Po explained that the scroll has no hidden power or something it’s just a reflection of oneself, and Tia was so determined to achieve power and skill, he didn’t see this

A Kung Fu Panda 4 re-write (my opinion): Tai Lung becomes the dragon warrior, the rightful heir as he was meant to be. It comes full circle for him, Po, and Shifu. They all work together (along with the furious five) to stop the chameleon. A Darth Vader redemption arc for Tai Lung would have elevated the story so much more than what we got.

Tai lung wasn't meant to be the dragon warrior, only shifu thought he would be the dragon warrior, but that's what made tai lung to get enraged and attack the valley, the person he looked upto and wanted to make proud didn't argue against oogway, he just accepted that tai lung wasn't the dragon warrior and didn't even try to comfort him, he just turned his back and walked away. Tai lung didn't deserve what he got, he worked hard day after day to achieve a goal he never truly wanted, he was pressured into something he wasn't destined to achieve, and when he was denied, the one person who wanted it left him, then after having enough he broke and tried getting the scroll, which caused him to be locked away for many years, i don't think anyone even visited him, shifu actively tried to keep him there.

A lot of people, including with chosen one stories, think the chosen one is a title given. It's not. Oogway wasn't giving The Dragon Warrior as a prize. It's more of a future vision and seeing who that is from within. Po could have gone to Oogway as a nobody, or fully trained, and he'd have said he was the Dragon Warrior either way.

Forgot to mention that becoming the Dragon Warrior was never Tai Lung's dream, it was Shifu's. He said himself, all he ever wanted was to make Shifu proud. This clearly explain why he was never meant to be the DW, Tai Lung was fufilling somebody elses' destiny instead of his own.

Source: There was no "dragon scroll". It was a test made by Oogway for Tai Lung. It doubled as a test of self-confidence (for Po). Shifu himself never even knew the scroll was blank! Oogway saw the need for the test from the beginning. Shifu loved Tai Lung like a son, but he was also blinded by his pride. It fed Tai Lung's ego. So, Oogway made the test without telling Shifu its purpose. Oogway died without changing the test. The scroll was always a test of humility for Tai Lung, but it was just a blank scroll. To Po, it just meant there was no "key" to being someone special. Proof: Oogway did NOT make the test to teach Tai Lung self-confidence!!! The whole reason for the test was because Shifu taught Tai Lung everything but humility! Oogway came up with the test during Tai Lung's training, and saw its true purpose after he chose Po, right before he died.

It does make sense because Tai Lung was hard working mastered a thousand scrolls and was trained in the Art of Kung Fu since childhood. Tai Lung was the closest candidate to the Dragon Warrior so it wouldn’t make sense if the reason was “there’s someone better than him.” It was likely that if Tai Lung accepted this and learned his lesson he would have completed his test and became the TRUE dragon warrior.
Yea Tai Lung is one of those villains I’ve felt sorry for especially since his potential is so high and literally he got the Anakin Skywalker treatment to go with that. Po showed humility even when nobody including Shifu didn’t believe he was capable of being the dragon warrior and proved why Lung wasn’t the one. Still one of the best written villains in Dreamworks history
Po was raised humbly in a Noodle shop by a great dad. Teaching him the right values. Tai Lung was pushed by Shifus ego to dedicate his entire life training for a great destiny. Never properly parent Tai. Thats why they reacted so diffrent. The humble man who comes to power values it The one powerful from an early age whos entire life goal is to be the greatest will not.
This would work, if not for two things: He never wanted the role, he just wanted to make Shifu proud, it was Shifu not sticking up for him that caused him to go rogue. Second, the way Shifu trained him was the problem, he used too much destruction!
Also Shifu was alsi his FATHER. Rotten children are the product of bad parenting. Then grow into bad Adults. Shifus parenting was filling Tais head with dreams and a goal. Then push him day and night to master all the scrolls and techniques Shifu knew for that goal. Shifu says it himself. "I have always been proud. It was my pride that blinded me to what you became. To what i was turning ylu into." He never bothered instilling humility and other core lessons into his son. Only training and the glorious destiny at the end of the painful road.

I kinda agree. Before they were running for the title of "dragon warrior", both Po and Tai Lung were the best fighters (tai lung is, po comes later) and both of them were rejected. That was a test on how they will react to it. Tai Lung became furious while Po keeps his head up and continue to be better to be worthy of the title. Thats why Oogway chooses Po.
It’s also because Oogway saw the past present and future coming together because of Po. He foresaw Po’s destiny to defeat Kai.
Po didn't wasn't imprisoned for years in an immobile position. So yeah, I'd imagine it's a lot easier for him to be levelheaded.
Po was tested to see his preserverance and determination.

I like this assessment of tai lung and that certainly makes sense. Even though Po was ultimately chosen as the dragon warrior instead of tai lung I can certainly see that master ugway wanted to see how he could handle rejection and could he rise up to quell that dark nature in his heart without letting it consume him.

Shifus tale is that until KFP2 he is only good at teaching the physical aspects of the art. His first student and son is tge embodyment of that. He pushed tai to ve the ultimate fighter, without traching him the spiritual or mental aspects you need along with it. No Shaolin Monk would freak out like that. As much as I like the theory, I still not agree with it. Po was meant to be the Dragon Warrior since the beginning , long before any Master knew him. In the Third Movie Oogway said he saw the future of Kung Fu after seeing Po for the first time. And the legend of the Warrior in Black and White is also a Legend from a Past long ago. Also the Fact that Po learned Kung Fu incredible fast and surpasses everyone in the Series in just Weeks or Months and all other Masters have to learn Kung Fu for Years proves it. When it comes to Tai Lung, they thought he would be the Dragon Warrior but they got proved wrong.
the thing is that since the secret of the scroll is belief in oneself the moment shifu told him it was time to meet oogway he fully belived he was the dragon warrior and kept that belief while imprisoned up untill he got the scroll. there was no hidden secret, no font of power, nothing. he ruined his life for nothing.

This is very interesting because Tai Lung is very strong. he can even single-handedly defeat "The Furious Five". If Tai Lung had given up the title of "Dragon Warrior", perhaps he would have become the "Leader" of "The Furious Five". become the Strongest "Master" on "Land".

"Dragon Warrior" was only ever a title. Tai Lung thought it was a direct power up. He gave up on the dream. Same with Tigress, who worked the hardest, only to give up on it when Po was chosen. I think the lesson was perseverance. Perseverance makes the dragon warrior.

That actually makes sense looking at it from that perspective. But what also was his downfall was Shifu not at least in his opinion, defending him. However you could argue that too was a part of those final test, as sometimes even those closest to you may not always have your back and you have to learn to adapt in that situation too, as horrible as may be, and he simply couldn’t. I think that’s also maybe why he didn’t understand when Po explained that the scroll has no hidden power or something it’s just a reflection of oneself, and Tia was so determined to achieve power and skill, he didn’t see this

That was actually a theory I’ve been having in my head as I rewatched the movie recently. What if that was supposed to be a test all along and he had to prove he could earn the title of dragon warrior, and yet despite all he had been seeing this as a rejection and so all that followed in the movie then happened.

Tai Lung is one of the main reasons why I love Kung Fu, it's honestly not even because of Pao 😅! It's really because of all the animal villains that the movies brought and even the shows. I wanted to watch the 4th Kung Fu Panda movie because I saw that Tai Lung was coming back, but I continued watching trailers and reading stuff about it. Because of what I found, I honestly might not watch the movie at all.

A Kung Fu Panda 4 re-write (my opinion): Tai Lung becomes the dragon warrior, the rightful heir as he was meant to be. It comes full circle for him, Po, and Shifu. They all work together (along with the furious five) to stop the chameleon. A Darth Vader redemption arc for Tai Lung would have elevated the story so much more than what we got.

A lot of people, including with chosen one stories, think the chosen one is a title given. It's not. Oogway wasn't giving The Dragon Warrior as a prize. It's more of a future vision and seeing who that is from within. Po could have gone to Oogway as a nobody, or fully trained, and he'd have said he was the Dragon Warrior either way.
