remco actually said in a post race interview that he was riding for the stage, and that he wanted to drop vlasov because he thought it would be easier to only have 1 competitor for the stage finish
LR, have you tried to have a broadcaster advertise on your channel? I feel like you could help point people towards places to watch. It seems like with the death of GCN there’s a lot of confusions about where to watch races.
My man Victor Campenaerts is as aggressive as it gets. every day. gotta love the guy!
You gotta capitalise ever letter of MMVC haha!!
My Man!
one day he will achieve something.
@@cameronmastoras2292 MY MAN
I don't know... He's got the power to get away, but not the brains to know when to go or not to. If I were his DS, I'd be a little irritated by now.
thank you for making this paris-nice experience so fun, im a little new when it comes to the actual technicalities of cycling races so your highlights helps out a lot, even if i watch the full stages uncut. Thank you so much!
I feel so bad for Santi, he really had a shot at a podium if not a good chance at winning overall if he hadn’t crashed twice
no chance of winning overall, maybe podium
@@cod3J Big chance of winning overall. He was within the best 3/4 climbers of this Paris Nice and was ahead the rest on GC. He crashed yesterday in the descent, and then today. I believe he could have followed the Remco/Jorgenson/Vlasov move.
@@jzgame1yup totally agreed. He was showing great form and this race was up for grabs for a number of people right until the last 40km of the last stage.
Your still images sprinkled in to the videos are awesome. Kudos to Bernal, few more miles and races and I think we have another cyborg back in the mix.
Congrats to Jorgensen! That was awesome! Just another chapter in the Roglic book. Who knows what he is gonna be like come July.
Always the most insightful analysis LR! Bravo!
Roglic just felt like he gave up when he saw evenepoel and co power away, seen better fight from him
great summary as always, great analysis, too. thx so much
Thanks. I always enjoy your review. You bring out things that most of us must have missed. Its always on point. Well done.
Thank you for making these videos, since GCN racing doesn't seem to put them out, the other option is Eurosport and their highlights absolutely sucks. Yours are awesome, you make sure to cover every important part of the race and give pertinent analyses, you have a new subscriber!!
hey just to say welcome -- there are those of us who've been with LR since prehistoric days and it's nice to think about how much fun you'll have with this channel!
thank you guys for the recap
I’ve never been this early 😮 great job lanterne rouge, always enjoy these videos and watch them religiously after each stage 👍
4:28 in I noticed that too, pretty slick
@lanternerougecycling Patrick you do a phenomenal job with your Join Cycling adverts in both your recaps and the podcasts. The updates in the pod and the video edits are good enough I don’t actually skip the ads. It got me off my butt and riding again with their free trial. Chapeau next week!
Great coverage. Better commentary than the networks.
Have fun in Flanders!
Dude, superb summary!
Good commentary even though I watched the entire race earlier. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
Way-To-Go, Mat-Te-O!! 🇺🇲❤🎉❤🎉 Proud of you, McNulty, and the talent & sportsmanship displayed by both.
Exciting racing
Boise let's gooo!
Great to see American cycling back
what really entertained me was vlasov throwing his bidon at remco right when he attacked out of the bigger group and subsequently almost causing crashes behind him by having the bottle roll back in the middle of the road.. unfortunatly it didn't make the edit - it happens right before 2:33 - but you can see it in other stage summarys
wtf is up with Russians, just act like children.
I think Roglic is just taking his time, wanting to peak at the right time for the Tour without burning himself out beforehand. He hasn't had good results trying to maintain top form for months prior; I think he's just pacing his preparation.
Why is everyone surprised as Vlasov's performance here? I've always thought he was a strong rider. I can't help but notice Remco's extremely dark Belgian National champs jersey, I hope he has an alternative for the sweltering TDF days, he's going to be an oven in that thing considering he already cooks himself given the fact he loves his short sleeves.
Befire there is another Belgian championship. Ofc always chance Remco wins again. But I am sure they will have an alternative for warmer races too
People underestimate Vlasov because they forgot about his 2022 season and he clearly isn't on the level of the other guys on really long climbs.
He can try to win and hold the yellow or white or polka dot jersey to stay cool.
Congrats to Jorgenson. I hope we can see Roglic fight for a podium this spring. Good recap!
It seems like everyone has forgotten that Vlasov got 5th at the Tour in 2022 and 4th at the Giro in 21, not to mention second at Paris-Nice in 21 as well. He’s a legit rider who’s just never had a very good team. If he’s doing this well already imagine how much more of a threat he could’ve been this season had Visma not poached Uijtdebroeks. Very interested to see what he does for the rest of the year though.
Vlasov is a great rider however as long as Primoz is riding he is second even if Primoz cracked, he is only getting a short if Primoz is not able to compete which he is in every race he starts in. He is just to expensive to play second violin. Vlasov is not gonna get the backup he deserves on Bora.
Why would anyone seriously discuss someone who should not be competing at all, same as russians in almost every sport. Enough grip to train, not enough balls to create any sort of anti-war movement inside their own sport? Comeon, that one deserve katusha and compete in spartakiada only.
@@oleksiipedosenko5219 I agree with you when it comes to competing under the Russian flag or for a Russian national team, and I do think sports agencies should go a little further and prevent Russian athletes from competing at all in National-Team International events (like the Olympics or World Champs) under a "neutral athlete" designation. But I do think that for commercial competition like World Tour cycling, Russians should not be prevented from competing, as they are competing for a 3rd-party team, not their country (especially now that the Russian flag isn't next to his name).
@@caet49 That's definitely true for the premier races. But Roglic isn't going to the Giro and might not go to the Vuelta if he really is all-in for the Tour, and Vlasov has the right characteristics to do well at both of those races this year. The Vuelta is definitely in his wheelhouse with shorter climbs and few TT kilometers, but if his 5th place at the Vuelta TT last year is actually indicative of his TT speed he could still do very well at the Giro too. But you're definitely right that his performance depends so much on who Bora sends with him and how confident they are in him.
@@oleksiipedosenko5219 Yes true - but here you are, so it’s almost impossible to do what you ask. Also since you or I don’t know what Vlasov has done about it we can’t really judge him - he might be one of the most hardcore cyclist in the world these days but I do suspect that He like all other sane people want the war to end and peace for all.
Looking at his form, Jorgenson looks so much more tuned in for LBL than the planned Paris-Roubaix. I really think he should rest up for couple of weeks after Flanders and go for Amstel Gold & LBL combo. He will be a straight podium contender.
Its too late to change the planning. It doesnt work like that.
@gerardvermaat6944 maybe, we don't know how tapered he is right now. That said, he has a job and Visma would probably prefer he be 100% fit for Jonas at the TdF than having a possible shot at any monuments at the expense of the TdF. Sure, they hope he's strong for the monuments anyway. But he'll be riding them for possible results, while making sure he's at his best to help Jonas. He'll be needed with Wout not doing the TdF
the visma effect
@@juuu7801 What is that?
yea how is he suddenly a gc guy after being only good at one day races. Pretty wierd tbh
I'm not one for the sort of frivolous fanboyism there's just so much of on YT, but I'll give dues where owed, and I feel it is here. LR's recaps/analyses are always measured, concise and in my experience on point. So thanks.
Roglic has a way of coming back from the dead when it truly matters.
This is always either the “this person does scary climbing performance” or “roglic cracks/crashes” it never fails to
Great coverage from Lantern as always. Wish he was allowed to cover more races😅
"remco went choo choo mode"
I think he was sick or simply not yet in shape. Chris Horner noted that in his interview at the start of the stage or maybe even after the previous day's stage, Roglič said that he didn't need to win Paris-Nice because he was solely focused this year on winning the TdF. So I think he either knew he might blow today, or, having said he didn't need to win, simply didn't give it his all. This is nothing but a training race for him.
GC Kuss 🇺🇸 GC Jorgenson 🇺🇸 🦅 wtf is a kilometer🗣
Why is it so hard to get the Gilet/ Rain Jacket in club/team colours?
Great Visma.
Roglic doesn´t look like a tour favorite right now. BUT, don´t forget that Jonas Vingegaard also performed badly during last year´s Paris Nice where he was dropped by Pogacar. And as we all know, his shape was pretty damn perfect 3 months later... Having said that, I doubt Roglic will be able to win this summer. We´ll ses...
Great video. Pronouciation hint: Gall is pronounced like the AL in Aluminum. I hope his name will play a bigger role in the upcoming races 🥲
looks like an unpredictable start to the season.
Remco celly goes harddd
Everyone in raincoats, gilets, arm and leg warmers, Remco in the short sleeves and no gloves or mitts. Hardy buck!
He's what they used to call a 'hard man'.
Yeah, he'll feel the lack of mitts when he'll go down next time.
He's literally always the last one to drop the long sleeves and long pants lol.
do we meet in flanders?
Well deserved for Jorgensen!
Jumbo Visma laden with talent right now.
Mads is so cool…a sprinter destroying the GC small group
Animating WvA during TDF 😉
Mads is not just a sprinter..
@@Kvs-vf9nt Could be, just not as good as WvA..
Was hoping for an Evenepoel upset, but Jorgenson was strong, and you could see Remco was on his limit. I still say Evenepoel could have won this race (paris-nice) with different tactics. As he has the better kick. Had Remco not let that trio go up the road, it would have come down to a handful of seconds. And thus down to the stronger sprint.
Idk about that. Remco for sure had tactical errors which obviously made it harder for....But the last 2 climbs today I think Jorgensen could have dropped Remco at any point and left him on the descents if he really needed too.
@@Sportsloverandrew maybe. But they seemed just about equally strong, with jorgenson better at the descent through better knowledge. Uphill he seemed slightly stronger on the final day. But evenepoel did most of the pulling and i do no think jorgenson could have created more than a small gap. Let alone a gap of which evenepoel could not have come back from.
@@Sportsloverandrewtoo bad he already thinks that winning on that road, in P-N, isn't worth it.
Remco tactics have always being "attack hard and go faster than anyone".
@@MiguelCyc yes, but by now he is in his 6th year or so of pro cycling. by now i expect him to be able to adapt when riding ppl out of your wheel won't work. strangely he did not try to be as dominant in his early years. i remember him patiently sitting in the belly of the peloton before attacking a couple of years ago.
Mads Pedersen was hero of the day for me, but this American sure is happy to see some excitement from American riders these last 6 months.
In the standing at the end Kelderman is missing
Because he crashed, then later got his time amended.
Wet and winding narrow roads - amazing there weren't more crashes! 😮 Roglic was also a surprise... Great coverage. Good luck in Flanders! 👍 M 🦘🏏😎
Join no integration with Karoo :( was very interested in it
Remco just looks like he missing that 2 % extra 😊
what does remcos phone celebration mean
I think that he's borrowed that one from tennis player Ben Shelton.
@@santiagobenites yea he explained it in belgian media. He liked the celebration and wanted to try it out. Did the same in Figuera classic
"I want attention"
Jorgenson is next in the lineage of diesel powered climby long boi's like Wiggo and Froome dog
seems sus to me
Great experience for the young cat Remco! Look how desperate he is, little change in training and tactics - he is next Eddie M
chapeau to Jorgenson... he moved up a level last year.. and it seems @ Visma he's moved up another one now... Rogla is so washed... a lot of hearts going to get broken this season.
AMERICAAAA RAHHHH 🦅
2:08 that’s Vic Campenaerts, not Remco Evenepoel
Remco screwed up in his strategy during the week as he was always afraid that Roglic would follow behind at his tail if he were to join riders who tried to break away. So at the start of Sunday's finale stage, Remco had some time disadvantage to make up. This is why Remco hardly wins the overall in races despite being relatively strong to win many stages.
People love to hate Remco, and I'm not the biggest fan of his comments, but he does make bike races exciting.
Hurt face by Vlasoff...we've all been there... lol
I felt Roglic ought to be a bit too slender for such cold and wet conditions. Almost no tissue on his cheeks, but bones and skin let him suffer terribly in the cold.
I would have preferred to see Remco ease off on Eze and see if Jorgensen would pull to keep the Yellow jersey group at bay. I think it was either a strategic mistake or he feared Jorgi, dont but the "feared Vlasov" reasoning. Let J show his hand. He would have either pulled eventually or attacked. But that's what Remco probably feared. The descent wasn't so crazy, but Remco doesn't know Nice that well. In the end they both robbed us of some extra racing because Jorgensen could have attacked as well, on the last kms of Eze, then build a few extra seconds before the last climb then both would've gone all out and we would have been on the edges of our seats. They chose a moderate amount of glory. The phone slam wasn't suitable celebration theatrics.
ah poor deprived spectators, the two wheeled gladiators failed to die for them in the cold and rain.. "Remboursez! Remboursez"
@@andrelouis7740 they are highly paid professional athletes. The risk would have been of losing to the better racer, not their health or life. The descents left weren't anything crazy.
Col d'Eze nuts lol
One question : how Jorgenson can improve so much in just few months ? Is always like this in Jumbo/Visma
Well he was good prwvious year but the extra % came this year in to place. Jorgenson was allways a talent Just like Skjelmose, he's is only 23 and next year will be a lot stronger too. Also watch for him this year in the Ardennes and not only Fleche Wallone.
Time for Bora to switch tactics und focus on GC Palzer
Roglic always has a bad day on multiple day races
You forgot to explain why speedo guy went with the speedo instead of banana hammock. Otherwise stellar commentary as always.
Some obvious takeaways: 1. Buitrago needs to work on his bike handling 2. Bora is already sweating about Primož form 3. Amazing win for Matteo in his home city, and TWO Americans on the podium??? 4. Bernal looks promising, finally 5. Grand tours seem WIDE OPEN at this point. I know it's early, but there are so many new contenders in the mix
Wide open for either Jonas or Tadej. Remco isn't top tier, and neither is Primoz anymore/yet.
yea bernal higher than gall and rogla on this gc (sure its early in the season) i think it shows that can ACTUALLY get back up there. so exciting!
@@uhis1686Roglic was a shell of himself and who is Gall ? I actually know Gall. I think you chose the wrong guys to make the comparison with. Anyway, I root for Bernal but don't think he'll ever be back to his own level. And without any other specialties except climbing, he's best chances of winning anything would be from breaks with lesser climbers, on long climbing stages.
@@shuycg look, I totally agree about Bernal: if he ever had that killer instinct... he lost it in his recent struggles. INEOS may need a new "leader" but Bernal is still a big asset that can go for mtn finishes and he's been consistently at the front this week. For Roglic, he looked like a passenger, but with the right scheduling, I'd never count that guy out for TdF.
@@shuycg you saying "world champion" Remco isn't top tier?? If you ever cycle competitively, you'll know that fitness ebbs and flows. Let's see this summer.
Remco did not say that. Everyone knew Remco wins the sprint 10 out of 10 times against Matteo.
With the demise of GCN this is now hands down the best cycling coverage we can get in the USA. I’d rather watch 10 mins of LR than the whole this with US commentators…
Visma is strong. 4th big race they have won with a different rider
Poor Egan Bernal he fell in this stage.
Show some love for the Americans!
Crack now. Early season. If do. Win the grandies larger stage races better weather mid season
You make me so hyped for what's coming in the cycling season-top notch work, as always
I like Brandon McNulty. Underdog. Genuine.
lot of guys crashed on this stage no? like where did kelderman go?
Crashed but got his time back. So he's top 10.
Roglic-New Team-crappy weather-training ride. Yah.
Hot take: Primoz is playing the long game, pretending he's not in form and only unleashing it for the TdF 😄
It looks that way 👍
That's silly because for all riders, they're also training in these races. For him to pretend and not train himself, I mean, how stupid if that's what he's doing.
Roglic is showing bora how strong is visma
Leaving Jumbo = cracked 😅😢
Yeah?
im early for once😅
This has to have been a sobering week for Bora. There were already doubts if Roglic still had it last year and now he wasn't even able to beat Vlasov who rode for him a lot in this race. Obviously the season is still young but alarm bells have to be ringing in a year where Bora wanted to contest GC at the tour.

@@daviddrake5663 GC rider on the best team gets results when the strongest competition isn't there? Shocking! Context matters. For example that at the Giro Remco had to abandon while leading by 50 seconds and after that it looked like a 36 year old could fend off Roglic for the longest time. Also the vuelta seems to be mysteriously missing from your achievements. Wonder why that is 🤔 Also I'm not even saying that he is washed. Just that this week was a strong indication that fighting for GC at the tour currently is very doubtful.
Context matters "the same rule applies for remco! strongest competition?you mean Jonas?😊 (Primož was Jonas mentor and one of first who believed in his potential to win TDF, according to Jonas)So Primož is very aware how strong Jonas is! Congrats to Remco to finally beat 10* years older Roglič! and finishing 2. overall without punctures and illness 😊
@@user-i.irmelyn By strongest competition I mean Jonas/Jumbo and Pogi/UAE. Those are the riders/teams Roglic and Bora will have to beat if the want to win the tour. That is why they made the move, that is all that matters.
@@ForeverDayGreen Visma no more Jumbo haha
His best days are behind him. I can’t remember the last time he went solo in dominant fashion in ANY climb. Jonas on the other hand, 🤣😂
Did pretty well in last year’s Giro mountain TT. Disappointing Paris nice for sure but you can never rule Roglic out.
I bet Roglic is missing that delicious JumboJuice.
Yawn
Gave it to Jorgenson instead
Does this really carry any weight. Roglic didn't have to leave the team. If he knows performance is largely attributable to implied "doping" he's not leaving to try to compete with said team.
More like that delicious Visma supporting domestiques and team tactics. Rog wouldn't be anywhere without WvA and Kuss last year
Not this shit again. 🤦♂️
Roggie low on dope.
seeing this season so far, TdF will only be interesting for the 3rd spot on the podium jonas 1st pogi 2nd. unless remco or roglic make a big step up
Tadej looked spectacular in Strada Bianche; rode others off his wheel and 81 km solo. Jonas looked spectacular in Tirreno-Adriatico; rode others off this wheel in multiple stages. Remco and Primoz, however. look lackluster. What gives?
Your overview misses Figueira Champions Classic where Remco won with a 50km solo.
@@rschroev I think even I coulda pulled a 50 km solo there. Nobody rode that race. Besides Marc Hirschi, there were no notable riders on the roster. Maybe the rookie Isaac Del Toro or old man Mikel Landa, but that's it.
