T.D. Jakes’ newest best seller is called Crushing: God Turns Pressure into Power. It tackles the hard questions about a loving God allowing sorrow and suffering. It’s about transforming what was meant for evil into good.
In this special “It Crushed Me” interview, Bishop Jakes sits down with Pastor Keion Henderson to discuss his childhood, his relationship with his biological father, his struggles with anger, and how he finally overcame what could have crushed him.
Keion Henderson’s present success as a pastor, humanitarian, speaker, and business leader is a far cry from the circumstances of his childhood. He grew up with his single mother and siblings, surviving for many years on minimum wage and government assistance.
Unknown to him for the first 12 years of his life, Keion’s biological father pastored a large church down the street and lived comfortably with his wife and their children. This just happened to be the church his family attended and Keion served at.
He was 12 when he found out the man he served as an adjutant and admired and secretly wished was his real father - actually was! Next came all the questions - most left unanswered -- the new feelings of rejection, the crushed hopes, and the anger as his father refused to acknowledge Keion as his son.
This emotional trauma, however, gave Keion a drive to succeed - perhaps to prove himself worthy to be his son. He struggled with feeling as if everything was his fault and wondering “am I good enough” - one of those unanswered questions.
Along the way, Pastor Henderson met Bishop T.D. Jakes and a God-ordained relationship and mentorship was born that continues to this day.
Watch this amazing “It Crushed Me” interview with Pastor Keion Henderson and Bishop Jakes, and see how God can restore, renew, and reconcile. And, don’t miss out on T.D. Jakes’ new book Crushing: God Turns Pressure Into Power. bit.ly/2Ue5FaD

Here is a young man who had struggles of being denied but has been blessed by God in so many ways. We see his success and accomplishments but never understood the pain he had to endure and the struggle he had to deal until he shared his story. The moral of this is just what my mom taught me .don't be envious of what others have as you don't know what they did to get it..

This interview, spoke to me on so many levels. God is FAITHFUL who promised. And, having someone to pray with you as his mother did, which caused it to come to pass.. is AMAZING!! It was good for me to be afflicted. This blessed me too.. Stay Present!!! My prayer.. Lord help me to have enough Presence to dissolve my past!!! Blessings to Bishop T.D. • I have lived the statement Bishop Jakes made “So many men try to apply discipline where they have not applied love” with my natural father who is a pastor, but God compensated me by replacing my natural father with a Spiritual Father who is amazing to me & I’m so grateful. I would go through the pain of the neglect of my natural father again to have the relationship I have with my Spiritual Father because it was worth it! God is true to his word, “All things work together for good to them that love God...” Romans 8:28.

  • 53:14 is where I ( a 41yr old man) cried like a little boy. Those words from Bishop Jakes to Pastor Keion "you are a joy" "you are amazing" and so on are words I've never heard from a Father, neither naturally or spiritually. My earthly father has been deceased 41yrs (I was 5 1/2 weeks old when he was killed). This entire interview was on point, but that part did it for me.

I’m glad that God allowed us to see each other and tell one another that we loved each other but we didn’t have time to get to know each other. He was a great singer and I’m a singer. We could have had so much fun together and made wonderful memories. I missed what I was supposed to have. He touched so many lives and as I listened to the stories and great relationships that he’s built over 52 years, I was proud. However I had nothing to share. He was the extra boost of confidence that I needed in my life. Until we meet again Pops…💕💕💕🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

  • Being unfaithful to your obligations to your children makes you unfaithful to God. He didn't just fail his son, he failed God himself and for that, he'll answer in judgment. As a man with a similar story, I made it my mission to never to do the same with my children.

    • There is a high price for unfaithfulness to God (and to those God has entrusted to us - our children)!! So much damage can be done to a child, but I am just blessed to see that Pastor Keion has received so much grace from the hand of God!!!! God's grace is so amazing, even through some of the most horrendous challenges.

  • WoooooW my God!! 🙏😭 This was POWERFUL!!! ❤❤ I Love them both & their sermons really minister to me. This took me back to when my Step Mom was in her last days, her & I talked like we never had before. She was married to my Father 25 years. Unfortunately we'd never had a decent relationship & one day she tried to apologize & make amends with me but I was so stubborn I dissed her which was completely out of line. I prayed & asked God to fix our relationship because it couldn't continue on that way & to "unstone" my heart. Two years before her health started to deteriorate our relationship healed. I know it was my Step Mother but we were still family.

  • The God we serve has brought together men whom each lost their fathers at a very tender moment in life, into the full circle of gospel . One is now the father he lost to a son who had a father who was lost. When you only saw one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you. For it is good that I was afflicted . May the peace of God that surpasses all understanding continue to stand with you.

  • Oh man oh man pastor jakes this was a powerful interview/testimony I feel everything that pastor Henderson was feel at the time. I too found out at age 45 that I have a father who don’t want nothing to do with me have place it in god’s hands but at times the hurt become a pain and I use to get angry but I turn that anger into praying for him. Pray for me so one day I will reach that place that pastor Henderson reach thanks.

  • Wow! I teared up listening to this testimony. The crushing of the grapes must happen in order to reach destiny. Keion's testimony opened my eyes and my heart to my father who was absent. I hate my father but I love him. My father is also a pastor. And guess who turned out to be a prophetess? Yours truly.

  • I TOTALLY AGREE! I was sooo overwhelmed with emotion as I was in awe of the gentleness of both men...the respect, the beautiful display of manhood, brotherhood and a father-to-son/son-to-father relationship. I am a mother that raised her black son alone until he was an adult because he has denied by his father. That pain is indescribable! I pray and pray! It is so great my son doesn't talk to me at all, I dont see him and we are not a part of each other's lives...I know very little about him past 21. He will be 31 in 2 months...daily praying for his healing and our reconciliation. I miss him...😥😥😥❤ So PROUD of Pastor Anderson!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

The harm we do to kids when we reject them for our personal convenience but only for God's grace to enter those kids' lives. And praise to God-fearing women who fight hard to raise God-honoring kids filling both sets of parental shoes.

  • Do you need any help ? … & he said yes 🙌🏾. Praise God. This is a true example why we “Forgive”. He loved his dad. He FaceTime him. All these steps you took. How you visited his death. I’m crying tears of joy for Pastor Keion “Strength” !!! I learned so much from this wonderful interview. Your parents / your decisions. Everything is just “Priceless” !!! Bishop Jakes I love you & mother Jakes. I have so much respect for you. Thank you 🙏🏾 for everything. The visit to your house Bishop (speechless). Closure , relief & telling the story. The grapes 🍇. The crushing (them). The intellect , the mannerisms , the calmness & the respect. I’m forever praying 🙏🏾 for you two & your families. Be blessed 😇. The wine. The prayer 🙏🏾. Greatness never goes on sale. It’s never discounted. It’s never two for one. You have to pay full price. Just like You Jesus did when You died on the cross. You paid it all.
