  • @46:00 "This whole place is a 'get me the hell out of here' theme." In the immortal words of Ripley: I suggest we blast the fuck out of here and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

  • At least you can say this for the guy: he at least realized his mistake and tried to fix it and he didn't cause any damage to the outside world.

  • The irony of it is this guy, thought he was protecting his family when in reality he would be the one responsible for the worms creation and he didn't realize it until it was too late.

  • This would make an awesome game. Imagine, you have a pickaxe and a lantern, and as you travel through the labyrinth, you arm yourself with European WWI tools and weapons, fighting steam-punk monsters, taking potions and ammunition from the weird factories and other areas. Always in the dark. Maybe with an exhaustion meter.

  • After watching this again, I realised it has been years. Definitely disclaimer to anyone who's never heard of SCP and aren't prepared for the black nihilism tackled in this grim journey. 40k at least has the light of the emperor in moments of despair, but this story welcomes no reprieve in a universe ruled by the iron worm.

  • This is my favorite SCP. I like the flowery words that come from the worm.

  • The thing is, some people *do* try to talk the madman down from the cliff. This guy's wife tried, but he didn't listen just as he accused her of not listening. Some people also try to warn others about the madman. No one listens. They don't see the danger until it's murdering people in their homes or building paramilitary bases outside their towns.

  • (42:25) This was actually written a year _before_ the Ouroboros Cycle by SnakeoilSage (not djkaktus), but that's certainly my headcanon as well.

  • It's really interesting that when the other followers start being antagonistic they start portraying Sarkic traits. Like cannibalism and a more animalistic mentality. For me it starts to really bring into question what is actually going on, if there are possibly Sarkic influences too. EDIT: I looked around a bit and this article seems to originally be from 2013 and I can't really find a reverence to Sarkicism older than 2016 (Series 3) so it can't be a nod to Sarkicism specifically but it definitely is in my head cannon.

  • Yooo one of my all time faves, such an amazingly written SCP. Just to clarify for people; this one is not Sarkic, but still an eldritch horror left intentionally vague, introducing a Lovecraftian element to the reality of WW1

    • The way I interpreted it it really seems like it blends elements of both Sarkism and The Church of the Broken God. The Worm is functionally a representation of both Yaldaboth and Mekane, conjoined in a painful self-loathing abomination of flesh and metal. It is the cage and the caged, the trap and the trapped.

    • @@cyborgcatrj6794 I quite like that analogy too, the cage and the caged and being Yalda/Mekane as a hybrid. Frankly though it behaves in the story as almost separate from it, like it holds no fundamental form or name or power within the story itself but is outside of it looking in and having a sinister influence on the characters of said story without actually being in their dimensional reality or universe if that makes sense. Think pataphysics. More like a reference or symbol of God. Idk tho might just have my own take on it and I've not read into what SnakeoilSage's official ideas are etc but imo, rather than being like entities like the Black Star, the Scarlet King and Adam el Asem etc, the Worm is kind of a grim representation of God from the pessimistic lens of a maddened veteran you know? It's such a good SCP because not only is it written with substance but there's so much hidden depth too, reflecting our world and the reality of WW1 captured in such a symbolic way. As for lore theories and speculation though, Old Man's already done part one of Palisade which is another great SCP! Personally I don't think this worm is related to the worm mentioned from Palisade but seems similar in a sense

  • Damn, at 48:18 the “I am the Trap, and I am the Trapped” comment, there was a funny bit that was unfortunately skipped over. It seems as though the Volgun had edited it out. After he reads that line, Dr Miller says, “Stop laughing, Jimmy.” Insinuating that one member in the class he is reading to, found that particular line funny

    @Kvssett@KvssettАй бұрын
  • I think it is hinted that this is a origin for the Church of The Broken God, with the worm being to God they are trying to rebuild

    @sillerbarly4927@sillerbarly4927Ай бұрын
    • It is actually Yaldaboath that is The Worm. Look carefully back at the last recording: "I am choice and I am *tyranny.* I am evil and I am *flesh.* I am the trap. I am the *trapped.* I am beauty and I am *chaos.* I have broken God." The Machine God Mekhane is the God of Technology and Order, who gave humanity wisdom and pulled them up from being mere animals, and who sacrificed himself to become the cage that sealed Yaldaboath. "I have broken God" is spoken from Yaldaboath's perspective. The guy thought he was making a cage to contain The Worm, similar to the real battle of the two gods, but his thoughts was twisted by his own madness and The Worm, and ended up creating offerings of human sacrifices to fuel it instead. It is also why his followers's flesh becomes mutated and fused with the machine and the interior building becomes nonsensical, The Worm is spreading it influence and literally warping it cage to affect the outside world (and potentially implies it had a hand in WW2 and the Holocaust's senseless killings.) In 40k term, this is like when the Chaos Gods gave Horus false context of the future and led to him becoming the architect of his own destruction.
