    • @zekelucente9702 I enjoyed many evenings at the Magic Castle back then too, and at a couple of other venues in LA that offered live magic (I recall that Gladstone's on the PCH had magicians wandering from table to table) but I never saw Randall. We loved the close-up card magic in the small rooms as much or more than the stage stuff in the big theater. Randall's levitating dollar with Carson was amazing!

  • This was truly beautiful Randall. The dollar bill levitation was top tier. You weren't monologuing, there was no snappy patter to lean on, you just let the magic moment take front and centre. Stunning. My daughter and I spent a lot of time over quarantine watching you in Magic and Beyond. Please, if you can, try to upload more of your performances here and we'll be sure to watch them.

    • @@MadScientist267 Actually you are wrong. Enclosing it in the glasses is intended to fool you, which it did, into thinking no string can be used (in truth its not a string but a wire but im not arguing about aesthetics) when in fact the "string" is positioned beyween the glasses. The same effect may occur when they use hoops (giant rings). The "string" can be run at an angle or even distorted. This can be seen when the hoop is passed most of the way through the object then reversed direction. They must reverse the direction because of the "string." But i suspect you are correct in one aspect, its not obvious. I gave the readers too much credit.

    • @@AnimationArtWorld I bet there were some random cards on the top and bottom (or maybe even the bottom) and it was an odds game considering most people would pick a card from somewhere in the middle. So if all the middle cards were 3 of spades, it would work. Also, there was no reason for the magician to ask Johnny to tell him what card was picked, which leads me to believe he asked because he wanted to make sure the trick was going correctly. I wonder what plan B was if Johnny had picked another card.

      @BrandonHann@BrandonHann9 ай бұрын
    • @@BrandonHann You're forgetting something: Johnny shuffled the deck after choosing the card. Anything that the magician had set up would have been lost. Furthermore, if most of the cards were the 3 of spaces, it would have been highly probable that it would have appeared at the "bottom" of the deck, instead of the ace that appeared as the magician showed the deck to Johnny. And, he, literally, had nothing up his sleeve. However, he did see the back of Johnny's card, which could have had secret markers on it, but, it still begs the question: How did he get it to his foot?

      @skaizun@skaizun9 ай бұрын
    • It's a trick deck. Half the deck is full of the three of spades and they are stuck together with a normal card. The three of spades is always on the top so that is going to be the card someone chooses. I had that same trick deck myself when I was a kid except the "chosen card" was the ten of clubs.

  • If I need to guess the first one used magnetic liquid that the glasses were rubbed with. And when he wrinkled the bill he put some of the lotion on it with his hands. It's transparent so we can't see it. (That's why he did it and not Johnny) As for the second one, the trick was in the selection. The cards were made in a way that only the 3 of spades will be selected by Johnny. And, of-course it was already in his leg before the kick. Any other thoughts ?

I believe this is where the duplicate 3 of spades is planted. Even so, an excellent trick as it is still fast and smooth. Johnny was an amateur magician, an amateur actor, an amateur drummer, but a masterful entertainer.

    • marking cards is too complicated for the trick, he forced the 3 of spades which makes sure that he doesn't have to fanagle with sleight of hand when loading the card (IE making sure he got the right one). • @@MadScientist267 Pressing two glasses together? Why would you think a string couldn’t ‘survive this? Try pressing two glasses over a sewing thread, the thread will survive. Have you ever used this sort of thread? Magicians rarely do anything without a reason. After rolling up his sleeves why did he take out the pack of cards? Maybe he needed that pack on the table during the trick?

  • Possible explanation for the dollar bill levitation trick: Not ordinary wine glasses . Telling me they are ordinary does not make it so. Therefore, why not wine glasses that send out an electromagnetic field conducive to the to the fibers in the dollar bill. Other explanation: Television camera trick in which only the audience and Johnny are in on the video effect. As to explaining the card trick, give me time, I'm thinking about it. Right or wrong, matters not, Randall was simply marvellous and impressive indeed!

    • Soooo much simpler than that. The glasses are ordinary. And there are no magnets. As others have said, you can go into any magic store and buy the thing that makes this trick possible for about $5.
