Great channel bro,hey i'm in México and own a 2001 BMW 320i Made here un Mexico. Will this vanos kit fit My car?
Did you seriously just install those rattle kits dry?
Qq❤qqq
This is the best DIY I have seen on this procedure. Thanks for explaining everything step by step.
Thank you for watching!
I keep seeing something about VANOS timing tool. What is it for ND is it necessary, I didn't see him say anything about it or use it?
It would be the best if he used the correct torque specs for EVERY bolt and nut
Just a small note: at 27:06 you mention 6 ft-lb but according to BMW TIS it is 10Nm which equals to something slightly above 7ft-lb :) In case anybody doesn't know why it is important to stick close to OEM torque specs - thermal changes stretch materials and if you have your screw too loose it may slowly unscrew itself and if too tight it may snap off. There are tolerances on everything so you don't have to be exactly 100% spot on torque specs but the closer the better of course :) TIS SOURCE: 4AZ Linksgewinde: Passschraube für Hydraulikkolben an Zahnwelle M52TU / M54 / M56 M6 10 Nm *My personal offline TIS is in german but in this case you don't need a translation And at 28:04 you mention "nice and tight" as a torque spec :) if you don't mind me translating that sentence into a number then it would be 50Nm which is quite a lot TIS SOURCE: 3AZ Verschlussschraube an VANOS-Verstelleinheit M52 / M52TU / M54 / M56 / S52 / S50US / M50 / VANOS M22 x 1,5 50 Nm PS: There used to be a few online TIS versions but BMW did a great job at shutting them down completely and there will problably never be another one. There was a lawsuit in Germany during 2020 that demanded access to all the torque specs and DIY related information for car owners that did not wanted to have to visit a mechanic to repair their own bought cars and BMW (and basically all car manufacturers) had to make it accessible. And they did but of course in a BMW sort of way. At BMW everything costs extra. One day you'll probably have to pay for a "welcome" greeting upon your entrance :) You can buy a one day pass, a monthly pass or a 365 days pass. None of those 3 are in the "I am a DIY person" price range so don't even bother to check it. If there ever will be an online TIS again it will most likely be down very soon.
Thanks for the correction! Definitely sucks that BMW took down TIS. Luckily there are still many available offline version downloads.
Thanks for the clarification 👍 👌
a bit late to the party here, I have used the Haynes auto fix online manual for torque specs. Its nice and handy and not badly priced.
Salute to you 🙏🏽 ❤️
another great video cheers @shoplifetv! Appreciate all the e46 m54 videos you do it makes life easier when it comes to doing the work.
thanks so much for the video i did my vanos seals yesterday was easy after watch your video and the difference OMG.
Very good and detailed double vanos DIY guys. Big shout out to you!
Very thorough, and good at explaining. My kind of guy!
Greetings from South Africa. Your channel and dedication are the main reasons my 2004 320i have not been to a dealership or shop for many years now. Because of you I have been able to DIY all key issues and continue to drive my car without hesitations or concerns. Thank you Ankur !!!
That's awesome to know! Glad I could help :D
Thank you I am trying to be doing this to my 03 e39 530i this weekend. My oil hose had a crack in it and crumbled when I tried to take it off. Vacuum lines were brittle and had to replace a few after crumbling. The disa valve needed a rebuild. Cleaned pretty good now just have to take off the fan clutch and go to town. Thank you again great channel
Yes awesome! I’ve been waiting for your version of the Vanos Seals and Rattle Kit for M54!
Just about to do this job and this is the best explanation I’ve watched. Great stuff from Aus.
Thanks for such a detailed explanation.Good job man!
Another awesome tutorial by the BMW master! Thank you, that is my next job and will surely play this video while doing it! Thanks mate, you’re a legend!👍🙌
Thank you Franco! Support from people like you keep me going! Hope my videos continue to help you in the future!
Completed the job and decided to just start the car - no drama. No EML, no hiccups, nothing but smooth running. Now to wait for the seals to bed in!
Very good. It was simply explained, quick and easy to follow.
I’m so happy you made this video. Haven’t even watch it yet
Thanks man! Happy to help
This was the best video I have seen about this! Thanks for explaining everything!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video thank you so much ! What do you mean by resetting adaptations ?
Brother I have a 2000 328 and was debating on how to do this job and I’m happy I watched your video 👍👍 I decided to spend more for the rebuilt unit and it was a easy diy but pricy 🙃
Fantastic video , extremely informational and informative. Thanks greatly
love your videos!! Very Helpful!
Thank you man help me out so much from Australia 🇦🇺
Your DIY videos have been so good for years anyone following simple instructions can do it!!! Thank You!!!
Awsome. After 4years & 60000miles mines need to be done again. This time I'll do rattle kit as I'm having the marbles in a can sound.
cool video. i have to do this to my car as my vanos seal is leaking oil.
hehe i've just did it on my E60 with M54B22. Sadly i could not get the vanos piston open so no rattle kit, maybe some day later.
Steps worked perfectly for me. Now how to reset adaptations? There are about 5 different ways online. PA Soft resets DME, but not sure I want to do that with a custom tune.
I feel very confident very well put together vid bro
awesome! glad it worked out
You should show how to install a turbo lol you make everything look so easy
You think you can do a DIY on the m62tu vanos seals & rattle fix ?
Also not noted in video is Bearings should be slightly lubed and you should always bolt the pistons back onto the cams and make sure they spin with little force If not use sandpaper to sand down the spacer between bearings and recheck. Spin each one counter clockwise. They should spin with very little force not spin it and it just keeps going like a fidget spinner then spacer is too thin which will cause rattling. After confirming this then put pistons back into the Vanos case and install on engine. By not doing this step it can cause performance issues and check engine light to come on.
Nice video man perfectly explain
Your vids are excellent mane, gracias.
Great vid, I've got the N42 engine, do you know if the vanos is the same unit as I'd like to give this a go, I'm having a very slight rattle on start up
Perfect timing i just order a rebuild kit and then you upload a video😩😂✌️ im so thankful right now
Yes!!!
Great job wish we could have heard the actual vanos rattle before you started. I have a stumble on my 04 e60 six speed at higher rpm almost like a slight buck or hesitation you can actually see the rpm gauge stumble been to dealer multiple times had engine ECU reflashed by dealer for some puma repair did not work same issue, no codes related to this anomaly, any ideas new coils, plugs. I and dealer seem to be at a loss, and can you do a segment on the e60 self steering head lights I have the dreaded blinking green light on dash, i replaced the module in the glove box but still same issue could be module under light but would like to know which one and how to test or what to look for in the programming tool I can make them move in test mode with software but not when car is started and light on thx in advance love the channels
Hi nice video ! So you dont need to set the engine at tdc or block the engine ?
Great video
Great video dear , very informative.. I'm doing it soon
love you for this, had the parts ordered for a month!
Hi how did you clean the vanos unit? Looks great
Thanks for listening to me!! 😊 Great video as always!
Thank you!
Great video best diy I’ve ever seen
Thanks Edson!!
Very well done video thanx very helpful.
Great video!
Great DIY!!!
Hi very nice and helpful video 👌 . I've trying to find where is the problem with my car . So , no errors in ECU car is lack of power seems like is struggling from low rpms . Was done : air filter , sprak plugs , disa valve, air mass , fuel filter , ccv . No difference at all. Any suggestion mate ? Thank you . M54B25 ENGINE
Exelente.gracias por compartir.saludos
this is the best ive seen i ,an ,hange a wheel ,now i ,an do a vanos for sure .
Great Video, thank you very much!
Thank you!
Great video! Is there a rebuild kit for 2009 x5 e70? Cant find it anywhere😓
your very good and clear video .
Thank you sir!
Love it ! The best explanation ! THANKS Guys !(: What about cleaning the VANOS Solenoid ?
Thanks man! & i will record that video
ShopLifeTV awesome !(;
ive been waiting for this for a while thank you
Love this video
Excellent video.
Did I miss the bit wear you cleaned the vanos solenoid, I think you said you'd do that?
YOO shoplife !!! You should do the shifter bushings rebuild there’s no one that provides depth in the build like you do 🙏🏽🙏🏽 thank you for the content
I picked up a pair of vanos pistons at the junk yard and basically rebuilt them with the new o rings and anti rattle rings. Unfortunately it wasn’t as easy to break open as yours were, and I didn’t have the soft vise lining, so my pistons have a few scuds and mars. Nothing major. Looks more cosmetic then harmful. Do you think I would have any issues if I went ahead and installed the pistons? Can I maybe hit it with some fine sandpaper to smooth it out? Thanks for the vids
Very good job 👍
Nice video!
Which adaptations are you talking about clearing ? And what tool is best to do that ? I have a creator scanner , will that work
Hi I’m hoping you could shed some light on a issue I’m currently trying to figure out and I’m really hoping it’s not what I think it is that is giving the issue so here it goes i recently bought a 2005 X5 4.4i v8,the gut I bought from said it’s been sitting for 5-6yrs winter/summer here in the Illinois state. I started the vehicle let idle for Atleast 45mins or more and I noticed there’s a coolant leak from from the overflow tank I replaced the tank n I see that the temperature gauge on the dash is all the way in the red zone as if the vehicle is overheating but I’m not getting any heat in the inside and even the radiator fan is not on what do you think might possibly be the problem with it
Excelente!!!
Excellent clipping. Is DIY possible?
instead of not installing the coil packs to pressurize the vanos, pull the fuel pump relay so you're not spraying gas in your cylinders
Where do I find it... let me do that. Just changed the vanos unit. Tried to fill it with oil 🛢 and ended up spilling it on the belts and hoses. Cleaned that off with hot water and dishwasher detergent...
Very well detailed diy. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
@ShopLifeTV on 16:11, Aren’t you supposed to torque the 24mm Vanos piston cap? And to what torque?
Is it worth changing the timing chain tensioner whilst the Vanos unit is off?
I am about to do this job, but seals only - there is no rattle, but my engine struggles at low revs and my fuel economy is way down. How does it compare to other jobs, as far as difficulty? I've done the CCV (the lazy way, but I did the valve cover gasket at the same time) and the oil filter housing gasket already...
i always love ur videos!! you made it so easy for me to take off my manifold. i was so intimidated. i’m still learning with my 330i m54 , but i wanted to know what is this fix for? what does it do? i know i’m a noob @shoplifetv
Is BesianSystems a good place to order from? site looks suspect and when going to checkout goes straight to paypal.
Most Excellent.
Thanks man! Always nice seeing your comments
Oil on the rubber hoses is a bad thing, right? Which is why you make sure to tell people to take precaution to not get oil on them or clean them if they do. But what is a good way to clean oil from rubber hoses? Is there some sort of spray we should use? Just wiping it will still leave a film of oil and I imagine that's not good. Thanks!
Thanks for this vid bro. Anybody have any recommendations on how to loosen the clutch fan off the water pump? Mine seems to be welded on there, it doesn't want to spin off at all
If it's been a while it needs force. Better to have the special tools required thin spanner/pully holder. If it wont' budge (remember it's reverse thread) then you need to use brute force whack. Careful not to damage hoses etc
@@98ron I have both special tools. It needs something more
How do y’all feel about the eBay rings and anti rattle parts? I already have the solenoid and oil return lines etc replaced from fcp euro parts but the vanos rebuild kit comes with everything for like $1200 🥴 the rings and springs etc on eBay are less than 100
How many miles were on this m54 when you did this? Just curious...thx
Good video
A quick question: do you need to put it at TDC prior to removal of the Vanos system?
No. That would only apply to the S54 (M3) engine.
Where did you get the Teflon o rings from?
My tech question first: Doesn’t cranking the engine with ignition coils pulled off the spark plugs somehow damage or at least endanger the ECU or the coils due to „unused“ / un-grounded high voltage? Or did you mean to disconnect them from the engine wireing harness? But now the credits: Wow man, you are really making great how-tos! For all those who use them when repairing stuff themselves, a collection of the mounting torques applied would be great! Maybe within a list in the „description below“... Thanks a lot from Munich/Bavaria! Markus
No some unburnt fuel will remain and get a check engine light but no damage
I’ve heard it might damage the coils.
It's easier and better practise to pull the fuel pump fuse
@@mikutv1 That's if the coils are plugged in via the harness and not on the spark plug. If the coil is on the plug and not plugged in via the harness, no problem.
You should have been a teacher. excellent video.
Hahaha the editing makes me seem like a better teacher than I am lol. All thanks to Selena!
Great walk through! Although torque specs would have been nice to put in.
Yeah need torque specs!
Your a human, feel you too a normal torque
@27:00 makes me laugh every time, trust me my inner boaterness is always on tap when i dont want it to be lmao XD
Did you have to lock the engine as if you were doing the timing ?
¡Gracias!
No problem!
Why dont you have the metal gaskets between the piston cap?
Awesome 😎😎
Thanks Samuel! :)
should the air inside the pistons be purged?
Doing engine refresh on E36 M3 s52. Does anyone know the OE spec for the piston ring gaps for Top, 2nd & oil rings? Can’t find it online. Thx in advance
Hi I’m having problems with my e46 325 msport saloon 2003 the problem is with my clutch so at first gear pulls like it should and then up gears it slips so I’m kind confused is it my clutch or something else ??
What's your tak on the x8r kit from the UK?
What impact wrench do you have?
Why are the other videos on rebuilding the double vanos show brown ring first then black ring over it. You did the opposite?
Hi. Sorri. I have a BMW E46 Mator M54 dropping equal to the oil, but there is no smoke from the exhaust, tell me what to do?
Hello. I snap both my lht camshafts bolts. Any idea how remove them ? Thanks 🥲
Sick
finally up!
🤔 when I am done, can I not fill the vanos with oil so as not to start it with air inside...
Thanx for posting this video. Its very good and professional.. Regards anders
